It was a haven of peace and tranquility, carefully wrapped up and hidden from searching eyes. To those who lacked the inquisitiveness to even consider the existence of such a land, rumor of the truth would only force them into a stubborn disbelief and pathetic state of ignorance. They seemed to hold in their minds a vague stretch of cold, bland landscape. That is of course, if they even cared to hold an image of it at all. In reality, at least to the tired explorer whose eyes gazed out at the prize of his search like a peasant child suddenly presented with a golden crown, this land did not seem to be much of a stretch away from fantasy. The cramped and crooked schism through the mountain pass held the darkness to his back, threatening to over power him and pull him back within its stony depths. But it went unheeded. The darkness had already been challenged once and beaten. It would not woo the man over to a second try. He belonged to the land before him now.

It began slowly at first. A gentle pit-pat of cold in liquid form. But gradually the bombardment began. Even as I raised my eyes, the surrounding landscape became blurred with instantaneous, vertical white dashes. The air was grey like the sky and alive with gravity. A pounding filled my ears and was respected until chased away momentarily by a jealous roar from overhead. Puddles formed and then shivered in agitation as they were forced to continue growing. Trees laughed in the wind and shook even larger drops down upon those who huddled together in search of shelter. Daily life as witness by the sun abandoned all priorities. The downpour conquered the land, seeped into homes and unnecessarily made its presence known. The robin, with its oiled feather, gained bragging power for once over the fox in its fir coat.
