PROCESS FOR THE ELECTIONS
Time for personal reflection Give the list of the Sisters of the Vicariate. Each one takes time to pray reflect on the names of the Sisters who could realise the priorities retained by the Vicariate Chapter for the next 6 years. Each Sister writes the names of 5 Sisters whom she considers the most capable of being able to face up to these challenges or priorities.
STRAW VOTE Chapter hall – the scrutineers and the Chapter Facilitator receive the ballot papers. A list is formed in alphabetical order, of the sisters who were named most often, without stating the number of times. The list is given to each capitulant. We take time in the Assembly so that those on the list may express themselves if they desire. They may present their reservations, difficulties or anything else concerning themselves. They will not say anything referring to other situations or persons. This is solely a period of listening.
ELECTION If a sister who is named is absent she will be contacted and asked if she has anything to say to the Assembly, before the Capitulants proceed with the final vote. All the information received will be given to the Assembly. PRAYER: SINGING OF THE VENI CREATOR
INDICATIVE VOTE In an attitude of availability and discernment, each capitulant writes 3 names – in the Chapter Hall.
We proceed with the election in the strict sense of the term, according to the Constitutions of the Institute: the required majority, the number of ballots, etc. (Constitutions art 230)
A list of the names is established, in the order of the votes received, without indicating the number.
At the opportune time, we will recall the corresponding articles of the Constitutions.
The list of the sisters will be placed in the Chapter Hall and each one can take a copy. For the 3 Councillors we will proceed as follows: The sisters who do not accept to leave their name on the list, will say so to the Superior General or the Facilitator. A sister should have serious motives for withdrawing her name. A final list will be drawn up and placed in the Chapter Hall.
We will vote for one councillor at a time. In the first ballot, an absolute majority is required (11+1) If a second ballot is necessary, an absolute majority is also required. In a third ballot, a relative majority is sufficient.
