What are the Goals of Return to Work Job Coaching? The primary goals are to facilitate returning the injured employee to full duty, reduce the risk for re-injury and to bring prevention and education to the work location. When an injured worker receives therapy in a clinic, often times the mechanism of injury and actual work environment and work task technique are not addressed. With RTW Job Coaching, the PRECARE Provider can focus on these areas and make sure the injured worker is not "undoing" their rehab progress.
What is Return to Work Job Coaching? RTW Job Coaching is provided for designated injured employees on transitional duty. PRECARE-trained Providers provide the service onsite at employer locations. Each employee receives one on one time with the Provider to assess, measure and document: • Assigned transitional duty tasks • Current work capabilities • Physical demands of full-duty job • Proper body mechanics • Counter balance stretches • Neutral postures • Worker technique
Referral Criteria Employees on transitional duty beyond thirty days and not receiving onsite treatment with PRECARE are ideal for this service. Optimal results occur when RTW Job Coaching occurs as soon as the employee has been released to transitional duty, rather than waiting until the employee is not making progress.
How Does it Work? A referral is made by the Claims Examiner, Physician or Employer for designated injured employees on transitional duty. Prior to the site visit, the physician is notified of the service. The PRECARE Provider reviews the relevant medical history, job description/physical demands of the full duty job, work restrictions and current transitional duty tasks assigned to the injured employee. The majority of the time with the employee is spent on comparing physical demands of the full duty job to the current physical capabilities/restrictions of the employee. The Provider assesses the employee’s ability to safely and properly perform modified duty tasks and can have input as to what appropriate tasks should be. The PRECARE Provider works with the employee to ensure they understand the importance of safe body mechanics to promote healing and avoid re-injury. At each visit, the PRECARE Provider communicates with the Department Manager to review the interaction with the employee. After each visit, the PRECARE Provider completes a report and faxes it to the Claims Examiner and treating physician within 48 hours. The report will detail the work completed during the visit, recommendations and any areas of concern. This communication assists in moving the employee towards full duty efficiently and safely.
How Often Does the PRECARE Provider Visit the Worksite? Each RTW Job Coaching referral receives three visits. If additional visits are recommended, PRECARE seeks authorization before proceeding.
