Descendants of Cain vs. Descendants of Seth KEY TEXT Genesis 4:16 INTRODUCTION Both men were sons of Adam. From these two sons, the rest of humankind came. Spiritually, these two men represent the two different spiritual kingdoms. Through the genealogy of both men, we can see where we are and who we are in the KOG. We are seeking to inherit the KOG as descendants of Seth. Background: According to His image, God created man, Adam. Through man, God desired to rule this earth as He ruled in heaven. He wanted to build His kingdom and let His will be done on this earth. As a representative of God, man was sent to rule and conquer this earth. However, as Adam received this responsibility, Satan came in and intervened by deceiving mankind. In Genesis 4, the fall of man has already happened and now they are slaves to the enemy, the king of this world, Satan. But by the grace of God, Adam and Eve received the gospel message…that through woman, a Savior would come onto this earth. When Eve had Cain (means “I gained a son”), they believed that through Cain, God would deliver them form the enemy. However, they were wrong. After Cain, Abel (means “meaningless, breath”) was born. As we know from history, Cain turned away from God. In that time, in order to come into the presence of God, they had to make a sacrifice. Cain killed his brother because Cain did not come to God in faith. He just brought whatever offering he thought he could. Abel gave a better offering because he came to God by faith (by shedding blood, brought the proper sacrifice). After Abel was killed, God’s judgment to Cain was that he could not stay in God’s presence. Cain was cast out from the presence of God. Now Cain is a man without God. He built a human kingdom…father of human history. Seth, on the other hand, was given to Adam and Eve in place of Abel, who was killed. Seth’s name means “substitute.” God gave them Seth so that the Godly line could continue through Seth. BODY Let’s look at the text: Cain’s Line: v.16 – “So Cain left the LORD’s presence and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.” • Nod means “wanderer.” v. 17 – Enoch was born from Cain, and his name means “devoted” • Cain offered his son to the king of this world • He named the city after his own son, Enoch

When man was apart from God, all they did was name things after themselves, focusing all civilization, technology for man’s benefit Demonic power strategy  targeting cities who spread ideas about mankind, worldly images and thoughts are created and sent to the rest of the world The descendants of Cain are doing this even now! They are against God and doing all things for man’s sake. People are being deceived…without God whatever we do cannot satisfy mankind. Cain’s purpose = creating paradise without God in man’s power

Now what about you? Are you doing all things without God? Are you pursuing life and the things of this world without God? In the bible, it says that the wicked say in their heart that there is no God. In saying that, God has proven those who are wicked. Seth’s line: v. 26 – Seth had a son named Enosh and from that time, people began to worship God • Finally, God’s name is mentioned in human history. • For the first time, mankind began to worship God. Even just in looking at the names of the sons of Cain and Seth…you can see their spiritual direction. • Cain: Mehujael (wipe out , Methushael (sons of hell) • Seth: Enoch (“devoted” to God), Jared (“offspring who came from above”) Now let’s look at Enoch’s life. He is interesting because he went to heaven without dying. v. 22-24 – “After the birth of Methuselah, Enoch lived in close fellowship with God for another 300 years, and he had other sons and daughters. Enoch lived 365 years, walking in close fellowship with God. Then one day he disappeared, because God took him.” • • •

Before he had his son, he did not walk with God. But when he had his son, he began to walk with God. What made Enoch suddenly desire to walk with God? In looking at his son’s name, we can see what happened in Enoch’s life. o Methuselah: “when you die, the world will end” o Whenever Enoch called his son, he remembered that when he died, the world would end. o In looking at the numbers, when Methuselah died…Noah’s flood began in that year. o God gave revelation to Enoch, that when his son died, the world would end  then how should he live? He wanted to live a Godly life to escape the judgment of God!

So how must you live? In knowing what is to come in Jesus’ second coming and judgment, how will you live? You must live Godly lives! You must die to yourself and pick up the cross and follow the Lord Jesus Christ. You must have revelation concerning the end times. When it comes to you, not as information, but as revelation, then you can live like Enoch did, walking with God. Then you will disappear as he did. What must we do? 2 Peter 3:3-13 – “First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, "Where is this 'coming' he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation." But they deliberately forget that long ago by God's word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the Day of Judgment and destruction of ungodly men. But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.” CONCLUSION • •

We must live lives walking with Jesus Christ You must walk in the line of Seth by proving where you belong to in your life’s actions.

QUESTIONS 1. Which line are you in? In other words, are you in line with the world (which is destined to die) or are you in line with Jesus Christ? Who are you with? 2. How seriously do you believe in the coming of the Lord Jesus? 3. Then, what are you doing to prepare for that day?
