To, Police Inspector, ||||||||||| ||||||||||||||| Police Station, Bangalore. Subject: Verbal assault and intimidation by milk shop owner over illegal price overcharging. Dear Sir, I, Mrs. ||||||||||||||||||||||| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||, w/o Mr ||||||||||| ||||||||||||||, live at ||||||||| ||||||| ||||||||||||| ||||||||| |||||||||||| ||||||||||| ||||||||||||||| |||||||| ||||||||||||| ||||||||||||||||||||| ||||||||||||||| . At 8:30pm on 5 th Feb, 2007, I went to buy milk from the authorized KMF retailer (||||||||||||||||||| |||||||||||||||||||||||) in my neighbourhood. The regular ½ litre milk pouch was not available so I decided to buy a Goodlife packet of milk which has an MRP of Rs. 12. The woman who runs the shop was asking for Rs. 14 for the packet o f milk. This is illegal under the Packaged Commodities Rules (PCR), which state that any trader charging more than the MRP mentioned on the package can be prosecuted. I brought this to her notice and said that I would complain against the overcharging. The n the woman said that she was overcharging because today was a “Karnataka bandh”. While I was talking to her, her husband and the shop assistant came. The husband snatched the milk packets out of my hand and rudely told me to go away. He started making threatening gestures at me and I asked him to restrain himself and talk normally. Then he pointed towards his private parts and started abusing me in Kannada. He was constantly waving his hand on my face, almost touching it and was literally pushing me and trying to intimidate me with his body. I told him to behave himself, but he did not listen and continued acting in an abusive manner. When I told him that I would complain about his behavior to the police, he continued being sexually abusive and asked me to do whatever I wanted, and said that “he would see what I would do”. The assistant was also acting in a threatening manner and was abusing me for talking in Hindi. While this was going on a crowd gathered and lot of people saw the way in which he was misbehaving with me. I would like to bring to your attention that this is an extremely serious matter under Section 509 of the IPC which states: Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman - whoever intending to insult the modesty of any woman utters any word, makes any sound or gesture, or exhibits any object intending that such word or sound shall be heard, or that such gesture or object shall be seen by such woman, or intrudes upon the privacy of such woman, shall be punished with simpl e imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine, or both.
The milk shop person and his assistant have caused me deep hurt, insult, mental agony and trauma. Please look into the matter and take action accordingly. I will also be contacting a women’s rights group and my lawyer to find out my rights in this issue and how I can prosecute these two people fully under all applicable laws. I am an |||||||||||| |||||||||||||| |||||||||||||| |||| ||||||||||| and I will not rest until this matt er is resolved to my satisfaction. Yours truly,
