Race Hate Reporting
the opportunity
the approach
the results
Westminster, in collaboration with the police and social services, reported a sudden decline in the official reporting of race hate crimes. other was tasked with engaging the community with a high profile campaign with the key aims of reassuring the confidentiality and trust of a victim or third party when reporting an incident, and the importance to other potential victims of making an official report.
Our approach was to create a campaign message as if spoken by the victim, which thanked the anonymous but public-spirited person who reported their crime and consequently made their lives better. A website with a confidential reporting module, posters and brochures were produced to support the campaign and the results were monitored and reported back to the Council printing techniques
The campaign has been very successful with increased numbers of hits and reports. It is being extended for another year and may be broadened to include other types of hate crime reporting.
