Standing Plans  Provide guidelines for further course of action and are used over a period of time.  Once formulated these plans are in operation for a long period of time unless there is some change.  Examples : organisational mission,long term objectives

 Single

use plans  They are relevant for a specified period of time and are formulated again for the next period.  Examples: budgets , projects

Strategic Plans  These plans define long term course of action for an organisation in the light of its environment.  These include determination of organisational objectives for long term period , major policies and strategies.

Operational plans These strategic plans are implemented through various operational plans ,both major and minor. Major operational plans are projects,budgets Minor operational plans are quotas and targets to be achieved within a specific period of time.

 Perception

of opportunities  Establishing objectives  Planning premises  Identification of alternatives  Evaluation of alternatives  Choice of alternative  Formulation of supporting plans  Establishing sequence of activities

 Objectives

are the intended end result that an organisation desires to achieve over varying periods of time.

 Objectives

are time frame  They are specific  Focus  measurement

Objectives must be clearly specified  Objectives must be consistent with organizational mission  Objectives should be rational and realistic  Objectives should be achievable  Objectives should yield specific results  Objectives should be periodically reviewed  Objectives should be consistent over the period of time. 

 MBO

is a result centered , non specialist,operational managerial process for effective utilisation of material,physical and human resources of the organisation by integrating the individuals with the organisation and organisation with the environment.

 Setting

up of organisational purpose and objectives  Key result areas  Setting subordinates objectives  Matching resources with objectives  Appraisal  Recycling
