TELECOMMUNICATIONS EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
Organisation: Period: Position: Client:
NTL Telecommunications Mar 1999 – Jan 2003 Project Portfolio Manager Worldcom, BT, Premium TV.
Main task was to Project Manage a £28M UK wide network rollout, comprising a new National Optical Network, and High Capacity Switching and Multiplexing equipment. This Telco rollout involved new hardware suppliers and was the largest value infrastructure project undertaken by NTL in this period of sustained growth. I was the key interface between the supplier and the business and was responsible for ensuring delivery lead times were met, this was achieved by fostering a positive approach to issues and maintaining a cool head with an ability to think clearly in pressurised environments. The rollout was managed using a variety of management tools and controls, including Prince 2, this ensured this high profile, high value project and it’s dependencies proceeded to the operational environment in a controlled and manageable series of phases, designed to provide Data and Telco services initially to areas of the country where previous network capacity was reaching it’s limits, eventually covering the length and breadth of the country and connecting to all newly acquired sites and businesses. An energetic and focussed approach to deal with risk, ensured that this Project had inbuilt contingency plans, to ensure progress was made during all phases ensuring an appropriate and effective use of resource, this project was successful and was the Telco/IT backbone Infrastructure to NTL’s 3rd generation technologies, including the UK Internet Service, migration from legacy ATM architecture to POP and Gateways. Responsible for a £26 Million pound budget I utilised Oracle Financials to keep the project within tolerances, I enabled cost savings to be made by bringing to the table an intimate knowledge of the UK telco supplier network. Network Architecture: 2 x Mirrored SH machines, 4 x RM Machines. 3 x STM64 20Gbit Optical Express Rings over DWDM. 8 x Digital Cross-connects. 9 x STM16 2Gbit Optical Collector Rings, STM4/STM1 Multipexors. IP Tunnelling, VOIP, G773,Giga-net WANs/LANs. I also managed the full lifecycle of several concurrent SDH and IP Broadband networks during this period. Organisation: Period: Position: Client:
