elebrate Armistice Day and Thanksgiving Day 1918 at Fosterfields Living Historical Farm in Morris Township on Sunday, November 15, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.! Indeed, the world had much to be thankful for that year because the armistice for World War I was signed on November 11, 1918, thus concluding the world’s most devastating conflict up to that time. In observance of Armistice Day, now known as Veteran’s Day, WW I re-enactor Andy Drysdale recognizes Americans who served in The Great War and all U.S. armed conflicts at 1:30 p.m. What is Thanksgiving without the traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings? The Foster family cook prepares a feast despite wartime shortages. Tour the first floor of the Foster family mansion, The Willows, and follow the tantalizing aromas to the kitchen. At the Farmhouse, a simpler Thanksgiving dinner for the farmer and his family is underway, and you can assist! Gather around the piano and sing holiday music. By November, the harvest has been gathered, but there is still much to do on the farm. Help husk corn, rake leaves, and lend a hand sawing wood needed for heating and cooking. Meet the Photo by Ralph Iacobelli farm animals, such as horses, cows, sheep, and chickens. Help gather eggs, watch a cow-milking demonstration, and become acquainted with a live turkey during the “talk turkey” program. Enjoy the last ride of the season on the horse-drawn wagon. View a special Thanksgiving display, as well as the season-long exhibit “Caroline’s Couture,” at the Visitors Center. Also, make a family-friendly craft, and enjoy light refreshments. In honor of their military service, this event is FREE for veterans and current U.S. military personnel.
