Parallel Journey 8.4 By Paloma Deerfield Group E Physical Journey: Dante is taken to Bolgia 4 of Circle 8 and comes to the Fortunetellers and Diviners. Moral Journey: Dante is brought to tears at the sight of the distorted souls that are the Fortunetellers and Diviners and begins to show pity. Connection: Dante had just told of Pope Nicholas III in 8.3, but when he goes to 8.4 and shows pity. This drastic change showing no pity then crying may just be the result of seeing the image of our humanity so distorted. (P.175) So far in the first three Bolgias of Circle 8, he didn’t show any sympathy until he reached 8.4. Dante has made progress. He didn’t swoon when the fortune tellers like he did back in the beginning when he saw the Cardinal sinners in Circle 2.
