In addition to being a multi-media resource and community hub, the Station’s offerings include social gatherings, teleclasses, ceremonies and circles, meditations, spiritual readings, games and activities, shopping, radio and video shows, daily prizes, and much more! Although many of our offerings can be found throughout the Station, our onboard “office” is located in the Guidance Center on Deck 7 - Level 1. Come visit and take a look at this incredible Community: www.explorecsone.com

The donations received through the GlobalGiving Challenge last month were enough to purchase the full amount of concrete required for the building of the Vocational Training Center in Uganda. THANK YOU for your generous support! Between 10 November and 1 December, Humanity Healing Foundation will be part of their Give More Get More Campaign. All donations raised within these dates will be matched between 30-50%. Birth

Autumn is here and as we retreat from the wild wanderings in open natural space to inside, enclosed man-made spaces, we also withdraw inside our own inner spaces. Our life begins to turn inward, as we see our bodies and minds imitate the slowing and gathering process which the Earth is performing. It is a time for divination, dream work, meditation and inner contemplation. It is an intimate, silent, personal time for communion with spirit guides, totems, our selves, personal deities, as well as ones personal god. In our modern lives, it is often difficult to remember that we still have an alignment with the land. So let us remember and let us focus on our connections to the earth whose cycles we follow within our selves for we will also find our connections to one another through these lessons. We need to realize and embrace these connections to the earth, to each other, to all as we are ending another cycle and pushing forward to the next! Be well this season my friends.

“No older than before, I wait… Hands sticky with longing And potential… I have begun again. There is a name for me now Though I have forgotten it… I wait. My face is young, my words unformed. Embrace me Earth; I am your daughter Come home once more. Whisper to Me so that when my voice comes I shall sing of you.”

quite specifically hide all our much more common realities, like confusion, anger and/or just more and more kinds of fear, including the need to make a buck or two in order to just survive.

Bush Whacking 101: Yet another course in miracles. By Nichespur Editorial Team

To speak, especially artistically, is to study the very nature of the divine within you. To read or listen then becomes a way to study it in others and possibly find those whose viewpoints you can support, or maybe even want to then pursue - for many other reasons perhaps.

This is why speaking up can feel so simultaneously enlightening and self threatening to everyone involved. It exposes you and your actual nature in ways no one, not even the best bushes in the world can then conceal (without a lot of other people help of course). So it is just as natural that many authors writing style may feel like they are only launching grumbly missiles at you from deep with in their bushes, whilst others might sing and dance around in front of you as if they really didn't have any other concern in their "hole whirled." But we all seem to live in fox holes these days. Some deeper then the rest, so this form of writing is usually just more social camouflage designed to

And yes, there are those today who have made this game of "so shall" and/or political servitude nothing more then a front for the "ration all" world we live in, giving us little MORE then sound bites and many superflorious half truths buried in a barrage of excess verbiage that only adds to our sensual confusion and often allows "them" to say just about anything in order to be heard, merely laughing and/or shouting, though not actually ever discovered perhaps, "for reals." And yet, like I've said many times before, "Sum -times, " through poetry, you can actually catch a glimpse of the divine within us all. That is, you - both the reader and the writer of poetry - can still catch an actual glimpse of that beasty within the bushes of us all. The real man and woman and human way of being. The us of US, just trying to find themselves while they also try to help others find another pathway for themselves. That is why "WE" write it actually, especially if you become one of those who really considers the value of your own specific turn of words. And no it is not always easy. It takes time. Time to think and feel something else about what is, or is not actually happening in your real world. A "good" poet then must also then become a mind that is quite intricately involved with the concerns of others, whilst they also struggle with their own demons, in order to create that specific rhyme or verse that might lead someone else to then believe "We were... Really!" trying to do something else then just chase another hearse in this other sense of things... which I now call Lie-F... even while "I AM" pursuing other truths. Care to join me? Then write on my friends...right on.

Double Visionaries:

The Psychic Twins Terry and Linda Jamison, known internationally as “The Psychic Twins”, are widely considered to be the world’s most documented psychics, with an unrivaled track record of accurate predictions. They are most famous for their stunning predictions of the 9/11 World Trade Center terrorist attacks, the Pentagon attacks, and the May 2000 stock market crash (all made on international radio, November 2,1999, Art Bell’s Coast to Coast A.M.) The Psychic Twins are currently starring on the Emmy-winning Tyra Banks Show, which airs in 110 countries. Their two appearances were Tyra’s most popular shows of 2009, and Tyra’s website crashed both times, due to an overwhelming response from enthusiastic viewers! Terry and Linda’s bestselling book, Separated at Earth: The Story of the Psychic Twins, describes their amazing life journey, their struggle to overcome serious illnesses and public opposition to their highly unusual work. Terry and Linda have practiced true Buddhism for twenty-five years. “As Buddhists in the largest world peace organization, we discovered that we had a special gift to motivate, inspire, and counsel others”, says Terry. “Over the years we were able to integrate these gifts with our psychic abilities. In the end, this

was the culmination of a life-long search for our personal holy grail, and in the process we discovered our most authentic selves,” Linda adds. The Psychic Twins have appeared extensively on international TV and radio since 1990. Profiled in The 100 Top Psychics in America (Simon and Schuster), and The Book of Twins (Doubleday), the Jamison Twins have been featured in over eighty TV shows and they have starred in fourteen documentary films worldwide, including the hit A&E film Psychic Children and The World’s Closest Twins (with Mark Dolan, airing in the U.K. 2010). Their television appearances include The Tyra Banks Show (Telepictures), Extreme Twins (film for Channel 5UK), The Dr. Keith Ablow Show (FOX), The Other Side (NBC), The Other Half with Dick Clark and Mario Lopez, Oprah’s Oxygen Network, Saturday Night Live, Turner Superstation’s Twin Stories, and AMC’S Hollywood Ghost Stories. OM-Times Magazine November 2009 Edition

Terry and Linda Jamison have signed a major book deal with Hachette for their second book, which will teach psychic development. It is due for release in 2011. THE PSYCHIC TWINS CRACKED THE CASE! THE CBS INSIDER called in the Jamison Twins to be psychic detectives on the Olivia Newton-John case in 2005. When her longtime boyfriend Patrick McDermott mysteriously vanished off the coast of San Pedro, California, police were looking for a body in the water. The Psychic Twins stated on camera that he had faked his own death and was hiding in Mexico. This was later validated by a representative of Patrick McDermott, as well as twenty sources who reported sightings of McDermott in Mexico.

years. Terry and Linda Jamison were born in West Chester, Pennsylvania, and are the daughters of famous watercolorist Philip Jamison and his late wife Jane, also a master painter. The Twins received BFA degrees from Temple University in Philadelphia and Rome, Italy. They also studied at The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Using the unique method of “automatic writing,” Terry and Linda access information fields and the Akashic Records. They specialize in counseling individuals and businesses, helping people to gain clarity, find their passions and fulfill their dreams. Creative Expressions Art, in all its myriad forms, is a way for the soul to speak and the process of creation is a vehicle to link body, mind and soul. The Healing power of the creative process benefits both the artist and the audience.

Featured Artist Ken Hill The Man Behind

Soulwire & Flowpulse Interview by Sri David

Soulwire is an acoustic fusion of atmospheric, cinematic, and downtempo electronic grooves. It is music that reaches and explores the deeper layers. The concept of Soulwire is to artistically interpret the life that we live into shades of vibrant, introspective tones. SD How long have you been playing electronica/ progressive meditative music? KH I've been writing this style of music since 1998. I wanted to be the next rock star. The music tends to have a mind of its own and it has taken me on a meaningful journey into where I am today. SD How would you define what you do and what you wish to accomplish?

KH Living life is an artform. We spend every day making choices, consciously or not, and they are much like the swish of a paintbrush on a canvas. Both Soulwire and Flowpulse are my personal expressions to translating and releasing those brush strokes into something that can be shared. As an artist, I am defined by how my emotions translate out. Some of the melodies that I wrote were completely in the moment. Songs of struggle were written when I was struggling. Songs of joy were written in that state. It's like a journal that can be shared with others but better. I believe that music is a mirror that helps reflect our most innermost parts. There is very little that is more humbling than knowing when a melody helped a person see a part of themselves that they may have lost or forgotten about. I have two goals. The first is to share these experiences in hopes to bring this world a little closer together. We may all have different experiences, but our feelings tie us all together. I truly believe in the unity that we share. The second is to teach others how to find their way to understand and release this incredible understanding about the world poetically. It's not really in the answers but appreciating the good questions. I do believe that act of honestly trying to understand (whether we do or not) is what gives us the insight and compassion that can change our world. SD How many cd's worth of music do you have? Where can you find it? Do you have any released to the public? KH I have a limited supply right now. If you go on my Soulwire site, you will find MP3s and CDs available for purchase and download. http://www.soulwire.com/soulwire2/id72.html You can also find it on CD Baby: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/soulwire or http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/soulwire2

Soulwire, A Radiant Nothing, from the album of the same name.

SD How did you come to turn a martial arts weapon into a form of artistic expression?

SD

Give us a synopsis on flowpulse? What is it?

KH Freestyle spinning is an expression that teaches others how to tap into their own "internal pulse" through movement and flow. If you watch martial artists perform "katas" then you understand a little bit of what Flowpulse is about. This is not about training for a big fight nor is it about memorizing a set of predefined movements. It's about losing yourself to the moment through movement. In some ways, you can see it like dance but the focus is also on energy and how to direct it. I have learned to flow through various props such as nunchaku (nunchucks), staff and poi. I also fire spin. I can't easily describe the feeling of spinning these props on fire while a live drum circle is exploding with so much energy. It's an incredible feeling to be alive and present in that moment.

KH I spent half of my life studying to be the most competent fighter that I could be. Back in the 90's, I used to be quite a fierce fighter and had dreams of joining the UFC. After some time and the birth of my son, martial arts had shifted away. Music took over and I had less desire to train for a fight that would probably never happen. A couple of years ago, I revisited my roots but in an entirely new light. I am in a different mindset than I was when I began. I had an epiphany. I wanted to do (with movement) the same thing that I have been doing with music. It was then that I released myself into the flow and discovered that we can use this momentum to tap into our inner pulse. What Soulwire is for the mind, Flowpulse is for the body. Both are expressions from the soul. For more information about Soulwire and Flowpulse, visit: www.soulwire.com http://www.flowpulse.com

Mother Earth by Malinda Lawson

She came into Being, Knowing well her duties. The sacrifices she would endure, As she birthed Life, One right after another. She fed us, She clothed us, She provided us water. She let us do as we pleased. She held a grounding rod deep within her core, So that we could be free to fly as high as the mind could conceive. She grew beauty from her fertile soils, Constantly balancing the homeostasis of all living things. Her goal is our survival, As she continues to feed and water the life that lives upon her. She asks only one thing in return for all she does for us, That we learn in this school of life. Learn how to let go of anything that prevents our emotional growth. Learn how to live in oneness with all she created. Learn how to respect all the life that grows from her womb. And how do we give back to this beautiful lady? We play upon her, She smiles and cleans up the mess. We rest in the winter, She busily prepares for new growth of Spring. We find reason for dispute, She blows a breeze of peace. We ravage her forests, She grows new seedlings. We contaminate her air, She works overtime for renewal. Will we ever see with our hearts what she has done for us? She lives and breathes for us. She is Life, She is Substance, She is Spirit. She is our Mother Earth. She loves you with such Nurturing Love. She soothes you with her nature. She lives because you live!

The Peaceful Art Of

Kelly Anne more than a thousand times, what I give. I love them all so much!"

By Sri David

When Kelly Anne researched the peace sign, she learned that it had never been copyrighted. It was to remain free to use, as the symbol implies. It touched her heart and she adopted that for her own peace art. Many have told her

There's an Island in the Pacific Northwest named Whidbey Island. It's quite beautiful and filled with an abundance of nature. Nestled in the woods is an art studio, “Peace by Peace Designs”, where you'll find Kelly Anne Tearney as she diligently creates her colorful peace art. Kelly Anne has been speaking up for peace for as long as she can remember. But, it wasn't until she acquired her MySpace family of 1,300+ people that she began to make her peace art.

"They are so inspirational,” says Kelly Anne. "I've found that to be true of all the people I've met in the venues I use on the web. They are from all parts of the world, they have varied incomes, they have been taught a variety of religions, and their skin is of various colors... But they all love with the same heart. I get back

that she could easily sell her art, but she is adamant about giving it away for noncommercial use. "It isn't about me," says Kelly Anne. "It's about all of us. When I finish a piece, I don't think of it as mine any more. It's created with the hope of inspiring thoughts of peace. If a picture says a thousand words, I can think of nothing more important for those words to convey, than peace." The concept of world peace comes naturally to Kelly Anne. She looks at the world as her family. She was adopted as a baby and was the only child of her parents, who also had no brothers or sisters when they were growing up. So, Kelly Anne didn't even have an Aunt, Uncle

or cousin. But, she was an out going little spirit and embraced everyone she met. She traveled Europe as a child and learned about diversity early on. "I never understood why there were wars. We are all so connected. Everything we say or do effects someone, which in turn affects someone else. The ripple effect is immeasurable," she explains. "I do my very best to come from my heart. I listen to what it tells me and it's never led me into darkness. I wish the world would just hold hands." Kelly Anne was also musically inclined. She began piano lessons at four years old and guitar at thirteen. It was no surprise that her career was in radio, as a disc jockey. There, she could talk to thousands and even play them the music she so loved. "Music is a friend's hand I often hold," she says. "It was my mentor in my formative years. It taught me about the wind of my soul. I still like to send my internet friends music. And I talk to them as well. Many times I record my voice, save it as an MP3 and include it with the music I send. I think they can hear the love I have for them."

her. (That's all she uses when she types and she jokes about how fast they are). So, if you ever find yourself on Whidbey Island, and you see a light on in the forest ... It might just be Kelly Anne creating her peace art. Or, it could be her heart full of light. You can see Kelly Anne's art at her online gallery at http://peaceartsite.com, and links to her many sites and pages. Please visit her hippie Forum at http://hippiesatheart.us/ Three of my favorite sayings she has incorporated into her art are " I am not at war," "I am already against the next war," "the pulse of peace is looking for a few good hearts, apply within." and "I wish the world would just hold hands." These and other sayings by Kelly Anne are available on products at her cafe press shop at http://www.cafepress.com/peacepeaces To experience the Living Visionary art of Kelly Anne, Click on the picture below for a slideshow CLICK HERE

My Favorite Color by Theresa Humphrey

I fell asleep one night and dreamt of you. You were the most vibrant color of red. Your energy was exciting and passionate. It made my spirit dance and my heart flutter. Pure joy and ecstasy filled my body. You took me on a journey but i was scared. You opened up emotions that I had locked away. You were magical, magnificent, and free. Your color swept me off my feet. I wanted you. I wanted to be with you, but I was scared. Then you faded away and my dream was over. Now I long for your vibrant color of red; for your energy and passion. I long for you, my favorite color.

The Telluric art OF Jessica Enneby Born in the countryside of forest – rich Sweden, Jessica has always been connected to the archetypes of our unconscious and higher selves. This became the recurring theme of her art making and functions as portals to the human soul and the universe, linking them together as the viewer recognizes aspects of their being and psyche in her works. Jessica works in three main mixed media techniques; oil, ink and acrylics on canvas, oil pastels, pencils and ink on watercolor paper, and experimental watercolor, pencils and ink/acrylics on watercolor paper. http://www.jessicat.se

The Beauty of Dreams Sensitive to energies from early age, Jessica was drawn to art and divine dimensions. As a grown up she has managed to combine these two main areas of her life and are now running her own business as an archetypal artist/illustrator as well as a spiritual coach and creative course leader. Jessica’s art mirrors the archetypes and symbolism found deep inside each and every one of us. Through her art she reaches beneath persona and ego as well as all through out the entire universe. It is intuitively inspired. It is colored magic. Besides fine art paintings Jessica is also creates divination and tarot cards and is currently accepting commissions.

of Finding Form" for it gave me the visual starting point of this project.

My driving force is the divine... Whenever I dream, meditate or contemplate in prayer, I get inspiration and visions on what to paint. It is as if I have always sensed other dimensions and had the urge to show other people the real "reality". To help people see beyond the material world and open up for the miracles and magic surrounding us. I am also inspired to guide people through their outer layers, into their archetypes. To work through their shadows and find liberation and power as one recognizes ones true self. My hope is that my images can work as keys to the symbols within.

Who are your favorite artists and what inspiration do you draw from them?

What is the message do you feel your art send out to people? I feel my art gives a sense of hope. That dreams can come true, that miracles happens. That there is a divine dimension... And that it exists deep within us as well as everywhere around us.

Are you currently working on any new material and if so can you tell us a bit about it? At the moment I am working on a series of oil paintings for my coming exhibition, starting 31st of October. The series is called "Wonderful wishing trees" and show trees from all kinds of mythology, basically as archetypal symbols for planting a wish...tend to it, water it, watch it grow and when the fruit is ripe, see the dream come true. Every painting is a wish for something... The first one I made is called "Tree

I have been inspired from a lot of artists during the years... but I'll list a few here:

John Bauer (Swedish illustrator): for his magical and luminous etheral beings in loomy and dark forests and nights. Dave McKean for his ability to mix the "real world" with the painted...is giving mesmerizing images of "other worlds". Susan Seddon Boulet: for her symbolic and archetypal motifs and wonderful mix of materials and figures. Marc Chagall for his dreamy blue and flying animals

6 Steps to Feel Sexy in Your Skin By Sarah Maria

When you look in the mirror, are you amazed by what you see? Are you smitten with your sexy body? Are you stunned by your own magnificence? Or do you look in the mirror and lament the size of your thighs? Grimace at the wrinkles appearing around your eyes? Agonize over that roll of belly fat that refuses to retreat, despite endless crunches and trips to the gym? If you are like the vast majority of women, and a growing number of men, you answer “yes” to the latter questions far too often.

By 2015, 17 percent of U.S. residents will receive cosmetic surgery, totaling 55 million procedures - almost one procedure for every five Americans.  Approximately eight million Americans have an eating disorder.  One in 200 American women suffers from anorexia.  Two to three in 100 American women suffer from bulimia.  An estimated 10 – 15% of people with anorexia or bulimia are males.  Binge eating disorder is thought to affect 2-5% of the general population.  One study found that one in ten teenage girls either binge eats or purges at least once a week. Binge eating among boys was 3%.

Statistics confirm that many people have a critical and harsh relationship with their bodies. They suffer from Negative Body Obsession, a condition marked by the near-constant and critical rumination about one’s physical appearance.

Fortunately, you can choose not to be a number. You can learn to feel great in and about your body, and you can begin without changing a single thing. You don’t have to invest in expensive plastic surgery, spend countless hours in the gym, or engage in extreme dieting.

Whether you are a woman going through menopause, an adolescent in the midst of puberty, or a man slowly losing his once thick head of hair, it seems that no one is immune from these negative body thoughts.

You can actually use the power of your mind to change how you feel about your body so that you finally delight in your physical form. And you can do it right now.

Look at these startling numbers:  Between 1997 and 2007, cosmetic surgery increased by 457 percent.

Here are 6 simple steps to help you feel sexy in your skin:

OM-Times Magazine November 2009 Edition

1. Become aware of what you are thinking.

Remember to exercise, and make it enjoyable. If the gym makes you cringe, opt instead for yoga, Pilates, dance, or good old walking.

The first step is to become aware of the stories you are telling yourself about your body. Notice when you critique your body for being too much of this and not enough of that. You will discover that many of these thoughts are habitual, patterned responses that are not true reflections of reality. Explore the idea that you can start feeling beautiful immediately, in this moment, without changing a single thing.

In our harried and hurried world, take time to relax and rejuvenate.

2. Set an intention to change how you look at your body Here are some examples: When you grimace at your wrinkles in the mirror, set an intention to find beauty in your reflection.

Offer your body gratitude and appreciation for it unwavering support and devotion.

5. Create Meaningful Moments Every day is filled with countless tasks and errands. Remember that you can imbue each moment with meaning. It can be as simple as smiling at everyone you meet, reacting with compassion and love instead of anger, or making sure to tell your friends and loved ones how much you care about them.

6. You were born beautiful

When you want to suck in your stomach in a vain attempt to make it disappear, set an intention to appreciate the body that you have right now.

Believing that you are unattractive is a learned habit. You can unlearn it and discover the Joy, Peace, and Love that are your natural sate and birthright.

When you long to fit into a smaller clothing size, set an intention to unconditionally accept your body.

So that is it – 6 Simple Steps to start feeling beautiful, right now, in this moment. You don’t have to go anywhere or do anything. There is nothing you can do, say, or buy that will make you any more perfect than you are in this very moment. Know this, and you will revel in your true beauty.

Make a conscious commitment to change the way you look at your body and yourself.

3. Take time to connect within Are you waiting at the bus stop on your way to work? Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths, allowing yourself to focus on the present moment. Are you in the shower, getting ready to start your day? Turn your attention to the feeling of warm water cascading against you, gently caressing your body, and allow yourself to relax. Practicing this present-moment awareness will help refine your ability to identify and detach from the negative dialogue about your body.

4. Your Body is Your Best Friend Your human body is your truest ally. Collaborate with it to create optimum health. Make healthy eating a priority.

by Ronald Alexander Many people cling to the myth that those who are successful inevitably feel good about themselves and are free from self-doubt and insecurities. I’ve worked with many clients whose résumés, personal achievements, and reputations garner the deepest respect and admiration, yet their negative self-talk is often utterly brutal. Despite their low opinion of themselves, they’ve managed to fashion lives that many would envy. Yet the disconnection between their inner feelings about themselves and their outer success causes them to hold back from making changes that would lead to far greater fulfillment and peace of mind. They’ll remain in a stagnant situation until change is thrust upon them, and then feel overwhelmed by any crises that occur. The Destructive Power of Negative Self-Judgments No matter how accomplished we are, no matter how happy we may seem, we all hold on to negative selfjudgments, and they hold on to us. They prevent us from discovering our power to change our lives for the better. When we switch to more positive thought patterns, crisis stops being overwhelming, and it’s far easier to let go of resistance, tune in to our passions and inner resources, and move forward with confidence. Positive thinking is indeed powerful, but don’t hold yourself to unrealistic standards and expect to quickly transform what are often lifelong thinking habits. The object is to stop assigning meaning to these selfjudgments, because once you start to give them weight, they begin to weigh you down. Through the practice of mindfulness, you can learn to notice when you are tearing yourself down and begin to change your habit of self-criticism. The Stories the Mind Spins Often, the rational mind will string together a series of distortions. Instead of simply noticing “I am shy,” the

mind will generate the thought, “I’m shy, which is why I’ll never find a romantic partner; my shyness makes me unattractive.” Instead of observing “I am an extrovert,” the mind begins to tell a disempowering story: “I’m an extrovert. My mother never liked that about me, and it seemed to embarrass my siblings. I probably made a fool of myself many times. I am too eager to connect to other people, who look down on me for being emotionally needy.” You may not even be fully aware that you’re embellishing your self-judgments in an unwholesome way. Reframe Your Negative Self-Judgments Through mindfulness practice and self-inquiry, you can render any negative self-judgments neutral and even see them in a far different light. To be “self-centered,” focused on resolving inner conflicts, can be perceived as negative, but it’s very important at times to direct your attention to yourself and your needs. If you feel that you are “callous,” you might reframe that quality as “courageous” or “bold.” If you see yourself as “weak,” consider thinking of yourself as someone who is sensitive to others’ feelings. You’ll never rid yourself of your unwholesome selfjudgments and be completely free from the suffering they cause you. However, you can alter their quality, learn from them, and either let them go or transform them so that they no longer block you from a sense of well-being, a feeling of spaciousness, and openness to new possibilities. Hidden gold will appear when you let go of your negative-judgments. The aspects of yourself you’ve been overlooking will ascend to your consciousness. Through mindfulness, you can discover these forgotten qualities that will inspire and vitalize you, and carry you through the rough waters of crisis to more placid waters.

Sleep Tonight? by Charlotte Reznick, PhD It's the end of the day. You're tired. You've worked hard. The children have finally gone to bed. You're looking forward to some peace and quiet by yourself. All of a sudden you hear the cries of your normally loving youngster: "I can't sleep!" Or, your teen charges into the room and insists that he can't fall asleep because he's worrying about an exam the next day - or is fretting about a recent argument with her best friend - or a problem with her teacher. Wouldn't you like them to learn a technique to help let go of worries and tensions of the day and fall asleep peacefully and easily? Guided imagery has been an especially effective tool in alleviating many kinds of sleep disturbances. When children and adolescents have difficulty sleeping at night, imagery can offer a soothing and comforting way to drift off into dreams. Children discover their own solutions by using tools such as meeting a wise 'animal' friend for advice or receiving a special gift to help fall asleep. For example, one 11-year-old girl was afraid to sleep alone in the aftermath of the recent L.A. fires. Jenny* had been sleeping in her parents room since the quake. We went on an underwater voyage to explore her feelings and she was met by a wise mermaid who had several messages for her: "You are safe"; "You are just as safe in your room as in your parents'"; "Nothing can hurt you"; and "You can be calm." These internal messages were much more powerful than if she heard the same advice from her parent or therapist. The mermaid promised to watch over and protect her. After this session Jenny began to sleep in her own room.

Using Imagery to Create a Soothing Blanket of Sleep

Jenny then developed a fear that someone "bad" was going to come into her room if she slept alone; however, she was able to go inside and ask what could protect her if she slept in her own room. Jenny pictured a "magic purple light" around her door that would keep out any harmful or scary people and only allow in friendly and helpful ones. Sleeping alone then became much easier. You may choose to consider some of these techniques and adapt them to your children's personal needs. The following meditative journey is very effective for deep sleep. The teen that this imagery was developed for had difficulty falling and staying asleep because of ongoing stresses of school achievement and peer pressure in his life. He found that listening to this imagery each night helped tremendously. You will notice the images are simple and repetitive. It is helpful to use a very slow voice with relaxing, soft music in the background. You can create a recording for your children or have them make one in their own voice.

“A BLANKET OF SLEEP” "We're going to take some time now for you to relax ... and go very, very deep inside. To a place of peace ... of quiet ... and of sleep. Be aware that with each breath you take your breathing gets deeper and deeper. And your body gets more and more relaxed. Imagine yourself lying down in a wonderful comfortable bed. Perhaps it's like a fluffy white cloud that you can sink into. And with each OM-Times Magazine November 2009 Edition

breath your body sinks deeper ... and deeper into this soft fluffy white cloud. "With each breath you bring in a beautiful golden white light to help relax and put yourself to sleep. This golden white light washes over your body ... melts through the top of your head ... washes over your eyes ... down your cheeks ... your throat. Relaxing ... going into a deep sleep ... deeper and deeper as this beautiful golden white light washes over your body. And each breath you take brings you deeper and deeper into sleep ...relaxing. "And letting go ... letting go of the day ... of the week ... of anything that's being held ... As you breathe this light melts through your body ... through your neck ... into your shoulders ... down your arms ... relaxing ... deeper and deeper ... into your chest ... around your heart. Your heart opens and accepts the healing light ... releasing ... breathing deeper and deeper. Going deeper into your sleep. Easily breathing into your belly ... allowing this golden white light to blanket you. A blanket of sleep. as it goes down into your legs ... into your feet ... "A blanket of sleep tucking you in ... taking you back to a time that you slept as soon as you touched the pillow. Going back into that deep sleep state. Going back to a time that was easy for you to sleep ... where you were comforted and safe. Perhaps it's a long, long time ago. But there is a time where you are peaceful ... and happy ... and you are sleeping easily. Giving you comfort knowing you are totally safe. As you go deeper and deeper into your sleep. Dreaming ... peaceful thoughts ... precious thoughts. "Allowing yourself to go deeper and deeper ... until there is a door in front of you. A door that leads you down ... into a deeper sleep. And there is a special person waiting for you at that door. A very wise and loving person. Who takes your hand and leads you to an even deeper sleep. Where you're comfortable and safe. And all the thoughts of the day are let go. And you're totally at peace ... in your sleep. Totally at peace and calm. "As you go deeper and deeper ... the blanket of sleep covers you. You're so comfortable you find yourself drifting into the dreams. Into the wonderful dreams ... drifting in the warm blanket. Going deeper and deeper, deeper and deeper... into your sleep ... easily. Colors are floating

around you. And the smells of sleep and comfort. As you continue to go deeper and deeper into your sleep. Allowing yourself to drift easily. Surprising yourself at how easy it is to sleep. How wonderful. How much you deserve to sleep easily... peacefully... Releasing all the tightness in your body. "As you sleep ... allow your body to rest. Cherish your body. Take care of yourself. All is good ... as you sleep. ......... And each night you go to sleep it is easier and easier to fall asleep quickly. You have peaceful and restful nights ... as you deserve. As you accept that ... you sleep ... deeply...." Although we have touched on only a few, there are numerous ways to use imagery with children in times of sleep disturbances as well as with other concerns. Guided imagery and meditation techniques** have been powerful and effective tools to help children re-develop and re-member their internal resources and strengths temporarily lost during times of stress. We are only limited by our own and out children's imagination. Their wisdom is within; we are merely guides for helping them shine their light.

Reiki By Dave Scarbrough What is Reiki? You may have heard about something at holistic health fairs called Reiki but wasn’t sure what it is. Reiki is an increasingly popular ancient hands-on healing technique that treats body, mind, and spirit. Reiki can be performed on yourself or another person. Although it’s a very effective healing technique, the concept is rather simple. Everything is energy including the air we breathe and the ground we walk upon. As human beings we can draw upon this “universal” or Reiki energy. While this energy has many uses, it has been proven to have amazing healing abilities. One of the many benefits of Reiki is that it treats the “whole” person including body, emotions, mind and spirit. Reiki can also create many beneficial effects including relaxation and peace of mind. Reiki is a simple, natural, and safe method of healing and that everyone can use. Many have reported miraculous results.

Can Anyone Learn Reiki? Yes, everyone can learn to connect with the unlimited supply of “universal” life force energy. Reiki’s use is not dependent on ones intellect or spiritual development and no prior healing experience is required. It has been successfully taught to people of all ages and backgrounds. There are currently millions of people worldwide performing Reiki. The ability to use Reiki is not taught in the usual sense. A Reiki master teacher connects your internal energy to the universal life force energy through the attunement ceremony. Following the attunement you will be able to connect to this reiki energy for the rest of your life. It doesn't wear off and you can never lose it.

OM-Times November 2009 Edition

How Does Reiki Work?

How Long Does It Take To Learn?

We are all alive because there is a life force flowing through us. The Chinese call it Chi and the Japanese call it Ki and they call it Prana in India. It flows through and supports every organ and cell in our bodies helping them in their functions. When this flow of life force is disrupted or blocked, we experience disease, illness, mental/emotional stress, etc. Reiki heals by flowing through the affected areas and clearing the energy pathways (also called meridians), thus allowing the life force to flow in a healthy and unrestricted way. This is similar to the theory of acupuncture and other related health systems except Reiki practitioners will place their hands in an effected area instead of using needles.

Unlike many other healing modalities, Reiki is easily learned. After just one class you will become a Reiki practitioner and be able to perform Reiki on either yourself or others. A class is usually just a few hours. In the class, the teacher will connect you to the Reiki energy through the attunement ceremony and then teach you where to place your hands to channel this energy. Once “attuned”, you can do Reiki. It is that simple.

What Can Be Treated? Since it was first discovered around the turn of the century, Reiki has been found to be effective with every illness and injury including serious problems like multiple sclerosis, heart disease, fibromyalgia and cancer. It is also used on more common ailments such as headaches/migraines, colds, flues, and sore throats. Also, Reiki can assist traditional medical treatments by reducing negative side effects, shortening healing time, reducing or eliminating pain, and reducing stress.

OM-Times November 2009 Edition

Frankenflu By Dr Kimberli Ridgeway (I wrote this last May, but it is still valid) Well the buzz word of the weak, oh I mean week, swine flu aka influenza A(H1N1). As of today, May 1st 09, the reports vary greatly depending on who you trust for your news. The WHO raised the pandemic to a level 5, just short of black plague BUT YET says on their website there have only been 10 deaths worldwide and only 367 cases. (Does this seem strange to anyone else?) According to other media there have been over 200 deaths and 1500+ cases. Around the country local newspapers are reporting verified cases and the CDC shows no record of them on their website. Doctors are required by law to report it or face fines and jail time. Who is lying? And why? Is this the big one? I really do not think so. I think this one is meant to scare everyone, so that when the real one comes along people are less likely to react appropriately. But the BIG ONE is coming, just ask Janet Napolitano (Director of Homeland Security) who stated “the US should prepare for a new flu outbreak, even if this one fizzles out.” (There is your warning) Is there a vaccine to save us all? This past Saturday evening, the Chicago Tribune posted this article which indicates that Baxter International s working on a vaccine for the swine flu. Yeah! We can be saved!?! Do you remember a couple of months ago when there was a company that sent out flu vaccines to 18 countries that were contaminated with H5N1 bird flu? (Oooops!) What was the name of that company again? Let me think…Oh yes, that was Baxter International. Don’t you find it convenient that this same

company is developing a swine flu vaccine? Just a few weeks later, we’re expected to stand in line with confidence and take their shots? I, for one, will not be. I will take my chances in the FEMA camps with the unvaccinated population, thank you very much! Sometimes the cure can be worse than the disease itself. So take vaccinations and antiviral at your own risk. Consider yourself warned. Anti-viral could cause the virus to mutate. The vaccination could contain multiple “soft-kill” pathogens. History shows us that during the time of the Spanish flu that killed millions, it was spread through a typhus vaccine during World War I. Be wary of ProblemReaction- Solution mentality it’s a slippery slope. Piggie flu, Bird Flu, regular old flu or frankenflu….what to do? I suggest living not in a reactionary based mentality, try a proactive mentality. A strong immune system is usually the key to staying well, but this influenza A (H1N1) seems to target people with good immune systems causing them to over react and literally drown the victim in their own immune response. Yuck! Well, we all have to die somehow, right?

OM-Times November 2009 Edition

So does this mean keeping your immune system up is a mistake? Not hardly. It means that you should not only bolster your immune system but also keep up with daily pathogen fighting substances as well. Some of my recommendations are as follows: (Disclaimer-This is a guideline for a normal healthy person. If you take any kind of pharmaceuticals, check with your doctor first, some natural products have mild to severe to deadly interactions with pharmaceutical drugs) 1. Foot detox. Immediately upon the first feelings of sickness. 2. Vitamin C in the form of ascorbic acid min 2000 mg a day 3. Cinnamon oil oral dilution. 4. Fish oil 5. Colloidal Silver both oral and nasal 6. Garlic 7. Juice fresh fruits and veggies 8. Salt baths… sweat it out baby! 9. L-lysine 10. Elderberry cough syrup 11. Cream of Tartar 12. Gargle with Listerine or a hydrogen peroxide mixed with water, do not swallow. 14. Above all, remain calm no matter what happens 15. If you use frequency medicine try 727 or 787 or 1550 HTZ. 16. You can’t go wrong when you are right with God! And remember to go out, do good, love one another and keep the faith that everything will be amazing! Peace ya’ll!

And now for the million dollar question: What can you do to protect yourself? Most folks think that a strong immune system is the

key. Well, typically this might be true, but that’s only partly true, due to the fact that this flu contains a strain of the avian flu. Interestingly, the majority of those who have died from this flu in Mexico were NOT elderly or the sick. They have been healthy young adults with strong immune systems! This basically means that this strain of flu has the ability to turn a person’s immune system against itself so that it shuts down the victim’s lungs in what is known as a cytokine storm. In a cytokine storm, the immune system sees a virus that it has never seen before (which in this case will be true for every single person living on the planet), and it goes nuts, whipping itself into a frenzy in response to the invading virus. According to Jon Barron, “a biochemical cascade of immune cells and immune system bio-chemicals such as interferon, interleuken, monokines and cytokines literally pours into the lungs. The subsequent damage to the lung tissue caused by these cells and bio-chemicals leads to the condition mentioned above called acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The net result is that the victim suffocates as a result of their own diseasefighting chemistry.” Does that mean that using immune supplements is a mistake? No! But it does mean that you should use immune supplements along with pathogen (i.e. virus, bacteria) destroyers. There are many excellent immune boosting supplements available. Take your pick. To destroy pathogens, I recommend Oil of Oregano - it’s the best antiviral, antibiotic, and antifungal that you can buy. Take several drops mixed with orange juice or water at least 3 to 4 times per day. Here is a link to the best oregano oil I’ve found. I also recommend MMS, fresh garlic, and colloidal silver. No, I don’t have financial ties to any of these products.

Unless you are from Mars or live in a cave, you probably know that there is an outbreak of swine flu in Mexico. As of today (April 29th) there have been over 100 deaths in Mexico from a new flu strain. It’s actually not swine flu, since the virus has not been isolated in pigs. It would be more logical to call the virus “North American Flu” based on its geographic origin. But for the sake of clarity, I’ll refer to the virus as “swine flu” in this article. In any event, regardless of what we call this flu, it is a combination of pig, bird, and human viruses from multiple continents, and belongs to the most common flu subtype called H1N1. However, it is impossible for any natural virus to consist of strains from many parts of the world and suddenly infecting people in one particular area. Investigative journalist Wayne Madsen has reported that “a top scientist for the United Nations, who has examined the outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus in Africa, as well as HIV/AIDS victims, [and] concluded that H1N1 possesses certain transmission ‘vectors’ that suggest that the new flu strain has been genetically-manufactured as a military biological warfare weapon. The UN expert believes that Ebola, HIV/AIDS, and the current A-H1N1 swine flu virus are biological warfare agents.” In light of the FACT that this is a “bioengineered” virus, please ask yourself the

following question: Could this be part of the New World Order’s depopulation agenda? It’s a known fact that the ruling elite DOES want to reduce the population of the world. They write about it in their books, in their think tank documents, in government documents, and at their conferences. You won’t hear about it from the “controlled” media, but that means nothing. Just do a Google search for “eugenics depopulation” and begin to learn what’s really happening. But we shouldn’t be surprised. Governments across the globe add sodium fluoride (an industrial waste and the active ingredient of rat poison) to your water, causing your brain, liver, and bones to decompose. They add mercury (which is as toxic as arsenic and lead) to the vaccinations, causing autism and SIDS. It shouldn’t seem too far fetched to believe that viruses could be released intentionally to further reduce the world’s population. This manufactured crisis is also a perfect opportunity for another “power grab” by the government. History is replete with examples of government using biological and chemical agents for political purpose. For example, at the height of Cold War insanity, the US government gave its scientists carte blanche to experiment on anything that could possibly further the military industrial complex. The CIA experimented with LSD for “mind control” in its MK Ultra program.

OM-Times November 2009 Edition

At Fort Detrick, scientists studied the possibility of spreading yellow fever and plague with insects. Anti-crop bombs were built for the US Air Force to be used on third world countries. It appears this insanity did not stop with the Cold War. Just last week, the Frederick News Post reported Army criminal investigators are looking into the possibility that disease samples are missing from biolabs at Fort Detrick. And if you need more evidence, it’s now a proven fact that the anthrax release after 9/11 originated at Fort Detrick as well.

Is this a “beta” test? Are the scientists behind this flu merely doing a beta test, in which they are studying multiple variables such as how far it spreads and how fast, does it mutate, etc? Are they studying if they’ll get away with the crime? The reason I ask these seemingly strange questions is that Mexico seems like a perfect place to begin the beta test, due to its proximity to the USA. You see, the USA is the target of the global elite, since we still have a Second Amendment right (to bear arms), thus making Americans a big threat to the New World Order. What’s the bottom line? 

.

Someone somewhere wants a pandemic. Maybe this isn’t the BIG ONE – maybe it’s just a “beta test” – but the BIG ONE is coming. Just ask Janet Napolitano (Director of Homeland Security) who stated “the US should prepare for a new flu outbreak, even if this one fizzles out.” This might be why millions of plastic coffins have been spotted in Georgia and Arizona, among other states.

If you can find out who benefits, then you will have found the author of the virus. Follow the money trail. If a pandemic does take place, then it’s likely that worthless vaccines will be given to millions of Americans, resulting in billion $ of dollars for the manufacturers of the vaccines. Remember that the ultimate goal is to further restrict our freedom. Regulations have been set in place so that, should the government declare a pandemic, vaccinations could become mandatory. If you refuse, then you may be “quarantined” (i.e. imprisoned) in one of the FEMA concentration camps. It’s called “ring vaccination” or “traced vaccination” — a round them up and vaccinate program forced on the population by the government. DHS and FEMA have plans in place to accomplish this, as D. H. Williams wrote for the Daily Newscaster in February. Author’s Bio. THE GOODNESS OF GIVING

energies dominate over the outer. Identifying, healing and transforming personal negative energy into healthy, positive energy generates feelings of goodness that automatically extend to others’ hearts, minds and bodies.

by Mary Cook

We can develop regular practices of nurturing, valuing and protecting the earth and the plants and animals that live here. Cultivating a relationship of caring, considerate stewardship for our environment, promotes peace and goodwill, for a planet that gives so freely of its resources for our survival. The earth and all of its elements and inhabitants are interconnected into a huge web of life. Every aspect affects the whole. How we treat the vulnerable, damaged, disowned and impoverished beings and aspects of life, either strengthens or diminishes our personal and global goodness. Withholding what was created within us to give, produces tension and discord. Being gracious and generous in our offerings to life generates ease and harmony. There is no higher calling than to be of service.

We are the healthiest when we are in a continuous flow of giving and receiving. Unselfish giving is our true nature, and this consciously connects us with the divine, which is always giving. Acknowledging all of the goodness that we have inside of ourselves, and perceiving goodness in others, fosters feelings of fellowship and unity rather than adversity and separation. This deeper perception of life generates positive energy for all aspects of our journey, and reinforces feelings of fulfillment regardless of outward circumstances. Abundant blessings and lessons visit us in daily life to tempt us toward growth and enlightenment. When we are relaxed and open, we are more likely to notice the messages of the present moment and meet them with fresh, creative energy. Inspiration is remembering the spirit within us and others. We are a creation, and we are meant to receive, create and give from the eternal source of love. Being open to life means that we have the faith to make positive use of all that life gives us. Increasing our capacity to give is the most worthwhile practice in our personal development. The best gifts come from the pure and simple goodness of our heart. Whether loved ones or strangers, we can give compassion, kindness, sincerity and sensitivity. We can cultivate deeper value for all that is given to us, from our own body, mind and spirit, as well as from our environment and others on this earth. As we mature in our practice of giving, we develop greater discernment for the gifts that best match specific situations and people. Sometimes the perfect gift is listening, and sometimes it is active assistance. We might give patience or encouragement, a playful or a peaceful response depending on circumstances. Some people need a prayer and others a warm embrace. We can give hope or humor, a tender touch or an open mind. We have gifts of clarity and curiosity, attention and appreciation to give. Giving joy, respect, smiles and love opens and enriches hearts. Acceptance, understanding and forgiveness are healing gifts for both the giver and receiver. We can add gifts from our creative and practical talents, or ideas that facilitate others’ well being. We also give to others through our example. Those who see us, interact with us, or know us, receive the energy of our thoughts and feelings, as well as outward behavior and communication. And where there is discrepancy, the inner

Whatever we give carries the energy of our motivation, and the level of our integrity and spiritual development. When we give solely from a sense of duty or obligation, or to feel superior, or control or receive something from others, we are offering our own defects of character rather than goodness. To illustrate this from a different metaphor, if we listen to a musician playing mechanically, or with feelings of arrogance, or focused on winning a prize or controlling someone, we do not feel elevated listening to this gift of music. Alternatively, when we listen to a musician absorbed and uplifted by the passionate joy of each note of the melody, we accompany the player into this higher state of glory and goodness. We join together in true giving. We remain apart and empty when we are selfish. We are meant to play and share the music of life from our heart and soul. We are meant to remember and rekindle goodness and extend a sense of heartfelt hospitality to the earth and its inhabitants. This expresses the divinity within us, which is our true self. Wearing Charity charity: water founder Scott Harrison In 2004, I left the streets of New York City for the shores of West Africa. I'd made my living for years in the big Apple promoting top nightclubs and fashion events, for the most part living selfishly and arrogantly. Desperately unhappy, I needed to change. Faced with spiritual bankruptcy, I wanted desperately to revive a lost Christian faith with action and asked the question: What would the opposite of my life look like? I signed up for volunteer service aboard a floating hospital with a group called Mercy Ships, a humanitarian organization, which offered free medical care in the world's poorest nations. Operating on surgery ships, they'd built a 25-year track record of astonishing results yet I'd never heard of them. Top doctors and surgeons from all over the world left their practices and fancy lives to operate for free on thousands who had no access to medical care. I soon found the organization to be full of remarkable people. The chief medical officer was a surgeon who left Los Angeles to volunteer for two weeks - 23 years ago. He never looked or went back. I took the position of ship photojournalist, and immediately traveled to Africa. At first, being the Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's court felt strange. I traded my spacious midtown loft for a 150square-foot cabin with bunk beds, roommates and cockroaches. Fancy restaurants were replaced by a mess hall feeding 400+ Army style. A prince in New York, now I was living in close community with 350 others. I felt like a pauper.

Often through tears, I documented life and human suffering I'd thought unimaginable. In West Africa, I was a prince again. A king, in fact. A man with a bed and clean running water and food in my stomach. I fell in love with Liberia - a country with no public electricity, running water or sewage - Spending time in a leper colony and many remote villages, I put a face to the world's 1.2 billion living in poverty. Those living on less than $365 a year - money I used to blow on a bottle of Grey Goose vodka at a fancy club. Before tip. Our medical staff would hold patient intake "screenings" and thousands would wait in line to be seen, many afflicted with deformities even Clive Barker hadn't thought of. Enormous, suffocating tumors - cleft lips, faces eaten by bacteria from water-borne diseases. I learned many of these medical conditions also existed here in the west, but were taken care of - never allowed to progress. The amount of blind people without access to the 20-minute cataract surgery that could restore their sight astonished me - all part of this new world. Over the next eight months, I met patients who taught me the meaning of courage. Many of them had been slowly suffocating to death for years and yet pressing on.

But once off the ship, I realized how good I really had it. In new surroundings, I was utterly astonished at the poverty that came into focus through my camera lens. OM-Times November 2009 Edition

Praying, hoping, surviving. It was an honor to photograph them. It was an honor to know them. Charity. For me, charity is practical. It's sometimes easy, more often inconvenient, but always necessary. It's the ability to use one's position of influence, relative wealth and power to affect lives for the better. charity is singular and achievable. There's a biblical parable about a man beaten near death by robbers. He's stripped naked and lying roadside. Most people pass him by, but one man stops. He picks him up and bandages his wounds. He puts him on his horse and walks alongside until they reach an inn. He checks him in and throws down his Amex. "Whatever he needs until he gets better."

The dictionary defines charity as simply the act of giving voluntarily to those in need. It's taken from the word "caritas," or simply, love. In Colossians 3, the Bible instructs readers to "put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness."

Because he could. Although I'm still not sure what that means, I love the idea. To wear charity. ~ Scott Harrison

* Mashed potatoes and gravy. Hopefully you've made these before. They're rather simple: peel white or red boiling potatoes (not russet). Chop into chunks, cover with water, and boil until soft. Drain, reserving the water. Add margarine (approx. 1/2 stick or more for a large pot), 1/2 cup soy milk, and enough water to mash into the right correct consistency.

BY *RaK*

This is a suggestion for Thanksgiving menu for vegetarians to use as a guide for the largest foodcentric celebration in the US. This is often challenging for vegetarians because of the expectations people have about it and conversely, it's quite easy, because the dishes traditionally are always the same. There are always vegetables, lots of them. There is always cranberry sauce (canned or fresh-made). Usually, a salad. Pumpkin pie and maybe other desserts. Mashed potatoes and gravy, not to mention stuffing! And of course, the centerpiece of it all, the turkey. With that last item as an exception, it's rather simple to replace everything with vegan or vegetarian substitutions that will not be missed at by those eating. Might I suggest... Appetizers Absolutely no need for these - there should be so much other food that will incapacitate anyone that they shouldn't need any. A healthy appetite is a prerequisite to eating. Vegetables

* Frozen white sweet corn: boil in water until heated. Drain and dress with margarine. For a more unique flavor, saute’ finely diced red onions in oil or margarine until soft, add 1/2 tsp to 1 tsp prepared wasabi (Japanese horseradish found in the ethnic section of most supermarkets). Mix, add cooked corn and 2 Tbsp. minced parsley. Heat through and serve. * Steamed asparagus or broccoli - top with margarine. * Steamed carrots: peel and slice into sticks. Top with margarine and parsley. * Steamed cauliflower, or Cauliflower Au Gratin. * Mixed salad. Do not add dressing until immediately before serving or it will become wilted. Try Balsamic vinegar dressing? * Yams glazed with orange and honey. Sorry, you'll have to look elsewhere for a suitable recipe. (I'm not that fond of yams.)

You can use as many or as few as you like. The main premise behind choosing your vegetables is to try and keep it simple. Veggies are for color and to provide a simple counterpoint to the more complex stuffings and casseroles in the rest of the meal. Oh, and it's also about quantity, but you already knew that.

Stuffing I typically make 3 stuffing:

* Twice-baked squash - To simplify, serve the squash in a casserole pan rather than refilling the butternut squash. Make two large squashes for a crowd.

* Traditional bread stuffing - The meal would be amiss without plain ol' bread stuffing! Make sure to get a loaf or two of rustic bread a few days in advance to get suitably stale bread in time to make this!

* Rice and Mushroom Stuffing * Sweet Cornbread stuffing - sweetened with some fresh apple juice, the cornbread provides a nice foil for the apple flavor and nuts.

Om-Times Thanksgiving 2009 Edition

Main Course This is the only challenging part (other than the logistics of cooking a zillion dishes at one time). You have several options, starting with making something yourself, or buying the health food store staple - tofurkey (which I have never personally tried). If you choose to make something yourself, try any one of the following, including gravy of course: * Seitan Stuffed Squash - make 1/2 squash per person (or 1 squash per every two people). Acorn squash is the best choice - it's the perfect size for a main dish, and holds up much better than the delicate when lack of attention (ahem, busy-ness) is involved. * Southern Baked Tofu - this is probably my favorite time to have this dish. Fairly easy to make, just takes some assembly time. I'll try and get the quantities nailed down before Thanksgiving, so hang on! Accompaniments Not quite dishes of their, these are still essential to having a proper Thanksgiving meal (as the majority of us will define it): * Nutritional Yeast Gravy - this is the only gravy you will need. If you have more than 5 people to feed, double the recipe. It goes wonderfully over either main dish, all stuffings, and even on top of the vegetables, though they shouldn't need it. * Cranberry sauce – Trying make your own or buy a can or jar from your local market. * Whipped tofu topping - for any and all pies that get served. Dessert * Pumpkin Pie - what else do you need? Maybe some whipped tofu topping on top. It's not quite the same as whipped cream, but thick and tasty regardless. Make two. They go fast, and this is a great leftover for the next few days (makes a great cold breakfast, trust me). * Apple pie or pecan pie - No recipes here. Have your friends bring these. Making two pumpkin pies will be more than sufficient for a crowd.

Spiritual Recession By Chandi Devi

Most people in the beginning of their spiritual practice are so inspired, bursting with zest and enthusiasm (often called the “honeymoon period”). At first, they may feel motivated to do their practices every day, but if they are focused only on the end result of their practices, they become the doer and over a period of time they get bored. As their interest wanes, their hopes vanish and they become disillusioned or bored. So the search is on for another quick fix.

being. You could experience mental anguish in some form-- physical pain, emotional suffering and psychological traumas if you are not careful. You have awakened her; now you have a responsibility to keep yourself “available” to her. Your neglect and a lack of direction either halts her right in the midst of her journey or keeps her stuck in a certain chakra, affecting your health and well being. Your life will become like a ship without a captain.

Their focus should be not on some goal in the future, but on the present; becoming the witness rather than the doer. It is important to have no expectation, but to “allow”, because along with expectation comes his twin opposite, disappointment.

This spiritual recession can be avoided by staying vigilant, aware, and mindful at all times. Don’t be caught in an unconscious mind set. Watch yourself, your thoughts, your emotions, your actions. Follow your path with the spiritual maturity and attitude of a warrior. Rather than court your short attention span and wander to and fro, you can practice diligence, patience and trust that the Universe knows exactly what you need, but you have to do your work too.

Spiritual practice cannot thrive on a series of quick fixes. It is long, slow and arduous at worst, but rewarding, transforming and magical at best. But you have patience with no expectation. Most people however, rush from one from one thing to the next without committing long enough to measure the benefits. They want as many experiences in as short a period of time as humanly possible. Quick fix solutions are not the cure for boredom or an unfulfilled life. Workshops every other weekend can be exciting, but you can expect complete burnout as your expectations don’t materialize. Workshops are wonderful when they provide a continuity of your practices, but what I am talking about here is the unconscious attitude of let’s try this, let’s try that method. The more things you “try” just to have something to do on Saturday night, the more elusive the goal. You suffer from disappointment because of this apparent lack of results, and so you start looking for the next hot thing. This is the fast food mentality to spirituality -- fast, easy, convenient and trouble free. You fear any kind of commitment and the moment you have to commit, you are off to the next great thing. This short attention span will create a recession of the spirit, which can be very damaging. Like a washing machine stuck on spin cycle, the laundry never gets done. You’ll become dizzy from just spinning round and round.

Chandi Devi showed great interest in spirituality and mysticism even as a young child, a passion that would eventually lead her to immerse herself in the study and practice of tantra yoga. She coauthored "From Om to Orgasm: the Tantra Primer for Living in Bliss", which won finalist awards in two categories in the 2008 National Best Books Awards competition. Chandi is host of the online radio show “The KarmaCaffe Spiritual Hour” and co-creator of KarmaCaffe.com and “The World of Tantra” DVD’s, a set of three practice videos that activate and transmute sexual energy (kundalini shakti). She has been featured in magazines, given many radio interviews and is a featured writer for several websites. www.theworldoftantra.com www.karmacaffe.com

In the pursuit of real or pseudo enlightenment, the Kundalini Shakti, (who may have been aroused from dormancy) needs more than ever to be supported by steady practices and guidance. Sudden withdrawal of the practices after she has been stirred from her sleep can be detrimental to your well

How to be happy – and get away with it

By Wellington Rodrigues

I took up a mission in life. No, it wasn’t because of any “divine revelation”, or a “prediction” from any astrologer or psychic reader. I decided to take up this thrilling mission for very selfish reasons at first. Many years ago I learned that we, human beings, do not use even a fraction of our full potential. And I came to discover that this is absolutely true. We have an amazing mind, a complex emotional system, and a miraculous selfhealing body. There are many things that we can do with this astonishing holistic complex. Many more than what we are doing at this point in time; some of these things would be considered “miracles” by many.

Later on, however, I discovered that the high was even bigger and better when I helped others experience a little bit of freedom from their unresolved mental/emotional issues and acquire true power over their lives. “Yes! That is what I want to do with my life!” I said. This order of events made me realize why we must be clear, at peace, and experiencing the truth before we can even dare to teach it to others. We have to walk the walk, if you know what I mean. And I keep walking each and every day, so I can now dare to talk about something and offer a helping hand. So, when someone asks why I have chosen the path of helping others I say: “Because this is what gets my juices flowing, this is my passion and my high.” The simple process that I share freely online is one of those “almost magical” pills that can help you experience the miraculous, sometimes instantaneously. That is no exaggeration. My definition of a miracle is very simple and down to earth: Being able to do something or accomplish a result that you did not think was possible. It is simple, right? Well, you may not call it a miracle if your definition of such is walking over water, or resurrecting the dead. But to me, being able to completely free yourself from the thought and feeling processes that are making your life less than perfect is a miracle.

My first goal in life, after I learned the truth about our potential, was to embark on a journey to explore the most I could, to learn the most I could, and to produce above-average results in my life. I did not embark on this journey with the goal of helping others, but to help myself primarily. As I grew through each personal accomplishment and improvement, I felt an indescribable high. That was my “drug” of choice; overcoming my limitations each and every day and stripping myself of anything that stood between me and happiness. OM-Times November 2009 Edition

Sarah would tell me that it was a miracle for her to be able to ride an elevator for the first time in years, after decades of struggling with an impairing fear. Justin would agree that being able to speak in front of a large audience was a miracle, especially because before he wasn’t even able to speak calmly to a single person. Suzanne could not believe that the deep seated rage against her father could be dealt with and “melted” in just a couple of days. Lisa’s chronic stress was so intense that her body used to shake constantly; it was affecting her blood pressure and heart. Her miracle was to become as peaceful as a Zen monk while still living and working in the real world, without having to escape to a remote mountain somewhere. And the stories go on and on. Miracles are happening every day in the lives of people, like you and me, who decided to “play with their realities” and adopt a new and friendly paradigm of transformation. It does not require up to 1 hour a day of meditation. It does not require 5 years of psychoanalysis. It does not require making any major change to your life. I myself have always been very lazy in the sense that I wanted things to be simple to do. I knew there were faster and easier ways of accomplishing results, and that is what I teach is all about. I was never fond of meditation or “100-step approaches” to feeling better. I wanted it all, quickly and easy. Maybe I found it because I wanted it so much and believed that it was doable. The Liberation Breath Process is my small contribution to the growing “Energy Psychology” field, and I do not say that it is better or worse than any other modality or process. It is what have worked for me in the first place, and has been working for many hundreds of those who have experienced it firsthand.

So, back to my selfishness, the sensation of having someone looking at your eyes or speaking at the phone, and thanking you for the “miracles” that they have experienced is so awesome that I feel like the happiest, luckiest man in the world. And since I want to share that with others so much, to feel that high even more, I have given up any profit from the official LBP guide. That’s because I want it to reach millions of people around the globe. I am in a personal crusade for a stress-free, emotionally balanced world, and you too can be part of it. Someone once asked me: “How can I use the LBP to become successful in life?” That is a good question, and yes, I have an answer for that; Success really originates from happiness. No matter how much money you have in a bank account or how famous you are, if you don’t live in that beautiful state of constant happiness, you can’t call yourself successful. When I say happiness I do not mean temporary contentment. Many people spend their lives going after temporary moments of gratification. It is like using a band-aid to fix a hole in a water tube. Happiness originates from balance. To me balance is the ability to control yourself and the results you produce in your world (You-niverse), without being swept away by anything that comes your way. Balance originates from a positive vibrational state. So, our best bet would be to find balance by reaching an optimum vibratory state. Vibration is the real key to everything else in life, be it financial freedom, health, peace of mind and happiness. To reach a higher vibrational frequency, however, we must get rid of the things that are preventing us from it. You do not “get it” by adding, but by eliminating. Pretty

much like a sculptor that has to cut and chisel parts of a stone to create a beautiful sculpture. Nowadays most people live in the illusion that they have to learn more and more, that there’s a mysterious “secret” that will bring them fame fortune, and some happiness to go along with it. I am sorry to disappoint you, but again, you would be better off eliminating the energy charges that are holding your core frequency in a negative vibrational state. Only after that is done can you even dream about being an “attraction master”. So, for the sake of your own growth, stop chasing after the latest way to become a millionaire in 6 months, the latest fitness scheme, or the new “spiritual retreat” that will transform you into a lettuce-eating guru and go straight to the source. Clean your slate, liberate the packets of stagnated energy that you have been carrying around your whole life and everything else will fall into place.

There are really two types of vibration; positive and negative. Once you vibrate in the positive side, money, health, peace, power, or whatever it is that you want will come to you effortlessly. YES, I said the “e word”. Don’t be ashamed of creating miracles effortlessly. Who said it must be hard? My Brazilian background makes me a very goodhumoured person, who likes to have fun in life. So, my chosen path is one of fun and excitement. Try it yourself, you may like it. I want to invite you to download my free book and try the LBP by yourself. I decided to offer it freely for two reasons; 1) You won’t have any money excuse keeping you from reading it and learning the processes. And 2) You will be relaxed in knowing that I’m not trying to sell you any “snake oil”. So go ahead. Dare to take charge of your life and experience true happiness. Your Perfect Teacher

“The difference between school and life? In school, you're taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you're given a test that teaches you a lesson.” ~ Tom Bodett Life is Your Perfect Teacher In our business lives; we sometimes wish we had a coach or guru to lean on to help us with our decisions. We frequently think it would be wonderful to defer to someone with a higher level of leadership. Not everyone has someone like this in their lives, and yet each of us has a formidable teacher always beside us, and that is our life itself. Our business lives provide us with people and experiences on a daily basis replete with opportunity if we are open to accepting this wisdom. After all, the person at the next desk or the manager down the hall doesn’t look like a guru, and yet, if we are on the alert, we can see their wise teachings. Sometimes what they show us is “what to do” and often, the lesson is “what NOT to do.” Tucked into every interface we have is a lesson. Some of them are insignificantly small and some are of enormous impact. Each of them is precisely what we need to learn at that time in life’s classroom. I find it of great help to remind myself daily of the following: * My life is my best coach. * Today, I’ll be alert for the lessons. * I am open to receiving the wisdom from today’s lessons.

You may ignite the success you so enjoy and desire more of if you think about what your life is trying to teach you each day. The administrative assistant who arrives late may be teaching you compassion. The middle manager who drafts an inventive proposal may be teaching you to recognize the good. Being late for an appointment may be teaching you humility and flexibility. The gift box is seldom empty, regardless of how well or how poorly it is wrapped. You can trust your mind to give you the perfect lessons. Lean into it; ask as many questions as you need to; be open to hear the answers that your life will provide you.

Give Your Eyes An “Ahhh” Moment We all spend a lot of time in front of our computer monitors squinting. When we squint, we don’t blink normally, so our eyes don’t get the right amount of moisture they need. Here is something you can do to alleviate the dry-eye problem: * Adjust your monitor so that your eyes look down at it and there is no glare.

* Look away into the distance every 15 minutes to sharpen your ability to read. * Get up and walk away from your monitor occasionally. * Blink consciously to keep your eyes moistened.

would like to live very long. What should I do?"

Eat the Good Fat First

The doctor then asks, "Do you drink?" "Oh, well Doc, not much, just a bit of wine with my meals, and a beer or two every once in a while." "Starting now, you drink only water. No exceptions." The man is a bit upset, but also agrees.

Choosing healthy-fat appetizers may help you eat less and lose weight. If you're watching your weight, you don't have to decline appetizers totally. Selecting the right nibble before your meal may actually help you eat less! Eat some of that whole-grain bread and olive oil when it’s offered. It could well be a dieter’s good friend. Don’t clear the table Do you wish you could control yourself better when that tempting candy or appetizer presents itself? Here's a tricky idea: Leave the evidence that you have eaten some of it. Whether it's the wrappers on your coffee table, the wing bones on your dinner table, or the empty cookie box, seeing the proof of your indulgence can help curb overeating. You will know you’ve already enjoyed some.

"I think that is a wise decision," the doctor replies. "Let's see, do you smoke?" "Oh. Half a pack a day." "Starting NOW, no more smoking." The man agrees.

The doctor asks, "How do you eat?" "Oh, well, you know, Doc, normal stuff." "Starting now you are going on a very strict diet. You are going to eat only raw vegetables, with no dressing, and non-fat cottage cheese." The man is now really worried. "Doc, is all this really necessary?" "Do you want to live long?" "Yes." "Well then, it's absolutely necessary. And don't even think of breaking the diet." The man is quite restless, but the doctor continues, "Do you have sex?" "Yeah, once a week or so..., only with my wife!" he adds hurriedly. "As soon as you get out of here you are going to buy twin beds. No more sex for you. None." The man is appalled. "Doc...Are you sure I'm going to live longer this way?" "I have no idea, but whatever you live, I assure you it is going to seem like an eternity!"

This November Practice Gratitude by Lorri Amsden Gratitude and joy are the themes for November as we take time this month to be mindfully grateful for the many blessings in our lives. Ancient agricultural societies marked this month by giving thanks for the bounties of the earth. For these communities this was the time when the last stores for the winter months were gathered before the cold and the time of hunger set in. Harvest festivals marked the month as the fruits of the field were gathered and all were thankful for the abundance. Today our lives overfill with plenty yet many of us refuse to see it. I know in this year of a slipping economy many of us don’t have the spending money we once did and sometimes it is difficult to stick to our new budgets but our lives are still rich. We have food to eat. We live in a country where clean water, electricity and a comfortable bed are the norm. Our lives are filled with rich relationships and people that we love. When you notice yourself grumbling about, take a moment to open your eyes to the blessings around you and realize how rich you really are. Cultivating a spirit of gratitude is one way to fill up your inner well of peace. Having a spirit of gratitude is good for your soul. The simple act of being grateful will make you a happier person, and it will make others happy to be around you. Here are a few ways to open your heart to gratitude:

moping about what you don't have. Your glass isn’t half empty, it’s half full. Don’t be discouraged by the things you have lost. Be happy and appreciate all that remains in your life. Be thankful for your job. Yes I know, sometimes we all hate our job but look at the positive benefits you reap from it. Give thanks for your abilities and your chance to improve upon them. Face challenges with a positive attitude and see how much quicker you conquer new projects. Marvel at how wonderful you feel in your accomplishments. This month give thanks for all of your positive relationships. Be thankful for the people that love you and all those you love in return. Be thankful for your friends. Good company makes your life rich. We are a social bunch and live in community. Recognize the random acts of kindness others show you and reciprocate the favor. Make a point of showing kindness to your neighbors and those you come in contact with and say Thank you. Your physical body is a miracle. Be thankful for it and all the things it can do. Be thankful for your health. An easy way to give back to your community is to donate your services to a neighbor who can no longer do the things you can.

Take time to meditate. Our bodies are so much more than meets the eye. Of course we are flesh, blood and bone but we are also Spirit and within our body lies and an amazing network of energy centers or chakras. This energy system ensures that our organs, cells, and tissues stay strong and healthy. When there is a block in an energy pathway, the organ system that the pathway corresponds with will also become blocked. Through meditation we can move energy through the body and heal it. Not only can we eliminate stress but we can heal and balance our own bodies by drawing energy to the energy center or chakra point that is not functioning to its fullest potential. Through Meditation Practices one can improve mental functioning, achieve greater intuition as well as greater access to unconscious resources and abilities. Get out and exercise. Go for a walk and give thanks for the beauty you encounter. The natural world is an amazing place. Seasonal awareness, awareness of the solstices and equinoxes and reflecting seasonal changes in your person practices, allows you to attune your personal energy to the energy of the natural world. Celebrating these ancient rituals is a way of attuning with the magical tides, to recognize the rhythms of life, death and rebirth and to harmonize with the world and to recognize that we are a part of it. Be kind to the animals that share your world. Interacting with animals enriches everyone’s lives. Most of us have pets but have you ever noticed that small actions like keeping a bird feeder, or feeding a stray cat opens you to the joys of the natural world. I’ve spent many peaceful moments watching the hummingbirds dip and buzz around their feeder. Every winter I make a point to help the wild animals in my neighborhood have an easier life. Smile! Don’t let stress get you down. It’s a fact that cultivating gratitude is a simple way to a greater sense of emotional well-being. The simple act of smiling is proven to lower your stress level and a smile makes you more attractive. So smile. It's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life and let days, weeks and even months slip by. As John

Lennon said, “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans”. Start doing the things you want to do. Make time for simple pleasures. Make a cup of tea or take a bubble bath. Set aside a morning to try out that new recipe you found. Fall back on the seasonal observance and bake a cake or a loaf of bread and give thanks for the simple fact that today you are alive. The benefits of letting your heart swell with gratitude are many. When you are thankful your troubles fade and your blessings will seem to multiply. Your positive attitude will draw additional positive things into your life. You will succeed and accomplish more of the tasks you take on. The people you encounter will be drawn to you and will respond to you with positive reactions. Your relationships will be strengthened all because you have decided to adopted an attitude of gratitude. Lorri Amsden is the founder of Liminal Landscapes a portal for dimensional living. My Journey from Illusion to Truth I am grateful for the opportunity to share a part of me with you in this beautiful journey called life. I am a Computer Engineer and a mother of a 13 year old who discovered my spiritual side through life’s challenges. The journey was not easy and if I leave out all clichés, I am not sure if I made it difficult through my resistance to see the truth and change. An unhappy childhood and painful marriage brought me to an important point in my life at age 30 contemplating on why God messed up my life. I wanted to meet God and have a conversation on how his universe had a ‘design flaw’. As an engineer I wanted to redesign the world and remove all the pain. I was led to wonderful Indian ascetics called Swamis and my quest became infused with passion. I was not ready to believe a religious concept given to be my parents or my culture. I wanted a direct experience of God that is self validating. My truth barometer started functioning which helped me avoid my own illusion masquerading as ‘the truth’. I was led to my first spiritual teacher Adyashanti, of the Zen tradition, who wiped away most of my preconceived ideas on how I ‘should be’ or how another ‘should be’. Truth cared nothing for my personal loss as the blade of discernment slashed through all that I thought was my truth. I started the process of looking deep within for answers. The journey with Adya prepared me for my beloved teacher Maya, who helped me go deeper and discover my deepest shadows that I conveniently ignored in the name of self preservation. I saw my illusion masquerading as truth. I saw the arrogant, jealous, proud, insecure and fearful being that I was masquerading as a ‘good’ co-worker, friend and mother.

by Maya Maya’s power and her presence brought me to my knees until I had nowhere to go but within, and hold all my shadows in compassion. Ironically the more I owned it and released it, my outside reality changed to be more nurturing, abundant and in truth. The journey the last several years with my teacher Maya has been filled with the deepest knowing of self where self-love birthed in the muddy waters of my shadows. I walked away from people and situations that were draining rather than nourishing. Leaving the old was very fearful as I did not have anyone in my family to look up to and learn from. I learned to depend on my truth and in God, while discovering such beautiful insights and compassion for myself and others. Compassion for another is born when we can see our “stuff “within and own it in full honesty without blaming the outside reality. How can we have compassion for another’s action when we are busy rejecting the same fear led action within? In illusion we create our reality. If we believe not being lovable, we will create that experience in the people we attract. If we believe we are a failure, guess what? We will be proven to be a failure, in as many lifetimes as needed, until we change that belief system. We bring shadows from past live times into this one if we are meant to have a completion in that area. I created in a situation where my power was taken away for 30 years. I had to learn to own my power and stand up for myself. I remember lifetimes where I created the same powerless situation! This is because the soul will create experiences for its learning until its completion. If we are a slow learner, and love denial for a very long time, we are in for quite a bumpy ride! OM-Times November 2009 Edition

The Power of Illusion is a loving guide to help see through limiting thoughts with techniques to release limiting beliefs, fears, addictions and other challenges. The book has techniques to manifest the life we desire by releasing the fears that prevent it from being received. Through this technique I have released fears causing my neediness, arrogance, addiction to chocolate, pride, financial limitations and the inability to speak my truth. Today I enjoy giving workshops and consultations while discovering the truth of each moment in being a student of life.

I must admit that owning my disowned shadows as reflections from my co-workers, grocery store clerk, friends and family was devastating. They all existed so I can finally own my stuff, release it, and be free from that negative experience. If I had a strong reaction to another being a liar, the process helped me see the part in me that was not in integrity. If my manager abused his power, I had a disowned self within which abused power too. I remember as a Technical Lead in Hewlett Packard I pushed my team mates with the only aim of meeting project deadlines and looking good to my superiors – that is abuse of power and putting another in a powerless position. Over the course of months, the self work I did by using my teachers technique helped me to release fear. I stopped letting fear stop me from having the life I desire. Walking through fear is not easy, but crossing it is very empowering. I now know I can take care of myself emotionally and financially without the need for another to do it for me. I discovered responsibility for self, which morphed into responsibility for the planet. I stopped blaming others for my creations and life changed for the better.

God was simply waiting for me to own my “stuff” and release it by walking through the fears. The journey of self enquiry, the revelations I experienced on the power of illusion, and learning the method to release fears resulted in my book The Power of Illusion. OM-Times November 2009 Edition

Stepping Into the Flow of Life By Rodney Groves

The meditation teacher Eknath Easwaran, while teaching a meditation class at Berkeley College once said, “You are not your bodies.” He paused for a couple of moments and continued, “And thanks God you are not your minds either.” The first time I heard this I was listening to a cassette tape entitled “Meditation” that I had just purchased from a local bookstore. Hearing this simple sentence changed my life forever. I began to contemplate this statement by this simple, quiet and gentle man and in the process I renewed my disciplined practice of meditation, letting these words sink deeper and deeper into my subconscious, until one day I saw and felt the true reality of what he was saying. Indeed, I was not my body or my mind. I was something more, much more. OM-Times November 2009 Edition

Meditation truly is a discipline, something that must be practiced daily to get the full value of. It is often a lengthy process to awakening but, from what I have seen, it is the only path to awakening to the reality of who we really are. It is a lengthy process because there is so much that must be dealt with in order to find that place within us that is pure and unspoiled, and even when we find it we have to continue to rediscover it because it is elusive and the ego bound mind is crafty in keeping us from it. There is much conditioning that needs to be unraveled, many fears that need to be faced and many concepts that need to be demolished. The journey to awakening is not an easy one, but it is very worthwhile. It is life changing. Where once we tried to control every little aspect of life, when we live meditatively we allow life to happen as it will and we find that it is happening just as it needs to happen. When we live meditatively we step into the “flow of Life” and we begin living life more kindly, more gently, with more compassion, empathy and respect toward other humans and all living things in general. We start living more fully present, seeing the little miracles around us and within us. We start noticing that our lives are a series of little miracles and that we flow from one to the next. The world is filled with billions of personalities, each one struggling to find their place on the train called happiness. When we live meditatively we find that inner joy that is at a deeper level than personality, at a deeper level

than happiness. When we find that joyful place we see ourselves as contributors to the evolution of the human race and an integral part of it. That is where the deepest meaning to life resides, in that quiet place of infinite stillness within where our deepest intuitive understandings are awakened that come to us in subtle feelings, those feelings that can only be experienced when we are awake to them by calming the inner turmoil of our minds. Barbara Dossey once said, “Healing is a lifelong journey into wholeness. Becoming healed involves learning to trust life.” As I see it our life long journey is to heal ourselves, and in the process we help to heal others. It all begins with being in the present moment, living our lives meditatively and mindfully taking each day, each hour, each moment as it comes and learning to trust life with the knowing that we are growing and becoming more, realizing our true nature and allowing life to teach us.

Marty is my playful side coming to the surface. He is designed to be a relief-valve for a world that takes itself far too seriously. A lot of the ideas I plan to explore with him are gentle reminders that the material world is always swinging from left to right... duality is the nature of the journey here on earth. Living in the Light Energy By Rev. Judi A. Lynch

As we spiritually awaken and ascend our energy fields are constantly rising. The Lightworkers and Starseeds and Aware Ones are feeling it more day by day. We can feel the atmosphere changing; we can feel the Earth vibrating. Our guides and angels are touching us on the shoulders, holding our hands and whispering in our ear, "We are here!"

They are here to help us learn to live in the light energy. To assist us in turning on the lights in us and those around us. We are learning to reach out our hands, open our hearts and start to trust each other again. Things are changing in the consciousness as we learn to come together and heal our bodies, minds and souls together. Knowing we are never alone. Seeing and feeling the proof of our eternal souls. People, who live in this new light energy, know great joy and healing. They may have had many things to heal throughout their lifetimes here on Earth or they may be helping others to heal, or both. They are adjusting to the brightness! Miracles will multiply as we continue this journey of our ascension. New paths and trails will be made as we leave behind the old new-age ideas of the recent past. We are in the new Era! A more open and universal way of understanding has already entered the consciousness. We will not need accessories or devices to communicate and we will not need surgery or ancient remedies to heal. We are learning how to meditate the light energy. Through our prayers, beliefs, unselfish hearts and open minds, we are learning how to shine using the knowledge being sent to us and coming together to share our gifts. We are light beings, eternal! This healing energy is a beautiful gift from Heaven being sent to us with endless light and love. One will awaken, who will awaken another and another...

What Fates Impose By Chris Anderson

” What fates impose, that men must need abide; it boots not to resist both wind and tide.” October 13, 2009 arrived with optimistic bright sunrise and cloudless sky... a perfect autumn day that inspires one to totter about their garden and muse on what next spring planting season might inspires. In the act of laying flowerbeds to rest for the winter I’m given to ponder the introductory blog that I plan to post on FATE Magazine later in the day (this very epistle than I’m now penning and you will eventually be reading). How shall I introduce myself to the readers of a magazine that I have randomly been aware of for the last 50 or so years? Perhaps a brief rumination about the idea of “fate” itself would be appropriate.

to the role of marionettes; puppets playing to the tune of “The Force”... and the Force would seem to

be akin to Alice’s Mad Hatter or John the Apostle on retreat at Patmos (where he apparently had gotten hold of some bad acid). An unseen gamer manipulating all of us on a cosmic PlayStation. Dang!

Whenever the word fate arrives in conversation (or inner dialogue) it betokens a veering off and subsequent examination of the idea of destiny, control and the inevitable outcome to situations by a higher authority, whether that be some omnipotent being or an invisible yet immutable force that unfolds in mathematical progression or the unrealized laws of physics. Is there such a thing as fate and, as Will Shakespeare was wont to imagine, are we subject and victim to it? Looking to Wiki, I’m edified to learn, “Modern usage defines fate as a power or agency that predetermines and orders the course of events. Fate is used in regard to the finality of events as they have worked themselves out... and that same sense of finality, projected into the future to become the inevitability of events as they will work themselves out, is Destiny.” If that be so, humankind is reduced

Entertaining ideas and food for thought. I suppose that is what my blog has suddenly become, for the time being. A series of ruminations about whether we are “fated” or not and how that might look from various angles. I invite you, the reader, to offer your thoughts and pose questions that we might use as tennis-balls over the next few weeks or months to amuse ourselves with as we wait to see what FATE has in store for us.

Megwich (Thank you for hearing me: Potawatomi)

Am I not master of my soul? There must be a greater meaning to life... and it has to reveal itself once summoned, I reason. After all, look at all those reports of haunting and voices from across the River Styx shared with the greater world by psychics and shamans, mystics and visionaries. Digging deeper in the cyber-library I came across my frequent mentor, Ralph Waldo Emerson, who struck a cord (again) with this tidbit... “Fate is nothing but the deeds committed in a prior state of existence.” ~ Karma! ~ Or, as the man from the Galilee said (according to Galatians), “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” Is this Fate? One or a dozen (or more) past lives exerting influence in this moment in time, arranging our dance card and orchestrating a waltz through space and time? Did we elect to forget our nefarious deeds done in the 12th or 15th Century only to have the intention and desire of who we were then trap us in the present moment? Perhaps so... and what about larger events, like 2012 and Armageddon? A collective decision to hit the “reset button” on the human experience?

The War of Pain and Life by Joy In the beginning there was Pain, and it called itself Birth. It offered no comfort nor promise, yet it bore with it the essence of being: Life. It grew in the greatness of itself and matured through the breath of its host: a human child. In the days that followed, Pain gave way to Life, who was now feeding ravenously from the knowledge and light given of the host. It called out joyously in the squalls of the beast and announced its triumph for the human race to regard. Life was good. Then came the days of motion, making vast offerings of knowledge and pride to Life, yet within its bowels, Pain festered. Pain, eldest and most resentful of Life's dominance, was nurtured only by the drippings offered by the host. Soon, Pain committed to mutiny and a terrible conflict ensued. Through the savage struggle, Life was torn asunder: rent in two by the ferocious assault of Pain and its growing forces. Where there had been but one vital force within the host, there now dwelt two. In the times that followed, Life continued to flourish, ever strong and rampant through and about the host. Pain, nonetheless, held its place

among the dark recesses of being and gathered to it other darker characteristics to strengthen its resolve. Namely, the twins: Fear and Anger. They joined the ranks of Pain easily, often squabbling over who was who. Pain cared very little for the bickering, but recognized the importance of their allegiance. It quietly decided to simply be patient; Life could not continue to remain steadfast, despite all of its flurry and pomp. Pain would wait for its moment, and when the time came, the dark forces of its minions would rise. Times came and went in the Life and Pain of the host. Life danced about its kingdom in utter glee, while Pain surged ahead at every opportunity, only to be assuaged by Life's ceaseless growth. The frustration of Pain's useless attacks enraged it even further, as it struggled to find a suitable armor. Pulling the twins closer about it, Pain drew in another newcomer to the host--Guilt. Guilt came well equipped to assist Pain in its mission, being the most devious and cunning of any dark power yet. With Guilt, Pain was able to at last steal a bit of Life passion at various times, tricking it into believing this was for the best. For the first time

in the ages of the host, Life was confused.

triumph for the human race to regard.

There could be no better time to act, Pain decided in a fit of confidence, and worked the foolish Fear and Anger into a frenzied storm of activity. The swirling melee, augmented by the fiendish Guilt, formed a mass of confusion that had Life responding as an ally. Decisions and actions lost their fine line of judgment and the result was the creation of Pain's most powerful monstrosities: Betrayal, Shame, and Rage.

Eventually, the revelers receded into their newly acquired domain and left Life where it lay, fragile and small. In that prior spark of Birth, however, Life had been endued with an inherent power to overcome and thrive through the breath of the host. Pain was a foolish, over-exaggerated glutton and would fall from power under the constant influx of breath and light. All of its dark horde could not shield the absolute strength of the host's will to live and be. Life had faith in its host, and would maintain itself in this small corner until it could once more gain enough strength to quiet the rantings of Pain.

This trio of warriors beset the shaken Life, shielding Pain deep within the confines of their power. The driving force of their essence was well out of reach; Life could do nothing to weaken Pain. Guilt moved in to bleed what it could of Life's resolve, determined to satisfy Pain's hunger. Life held fast, weakened and disorientated in the wake of the assault, yet clinging to the essence of light borne in its creation so long ago. Life was eventually forced to withdraw from Pain's advancing horde, knowing it could not grasp hold of its long lost darker half in order to heal the wounds, this time. Instead, Life lay quiet and still, feigning defeat. Pain and its terrible entourage laughed and gloried in the broken shell of Life sprawled out before them. They taunted their beaten foe and called out through the screams and tears of the host to announce their

Life would be patient; it knew Pain could not continue to remain steadfast. Life would simply wait for its moment to arrive, and when the time came, the forces of breath and light would heal yet another wound left by the endless war of Pain and Life.

The Spirit of the Corn An Iroquois Legend by Harriet Maxwell Converse (Adapted) There was a time, says the Iroquois grandmother, when it was not needful to plant the corn- seed or to hoe the fields, for the corn sprang up of itself, and filled the broad meadows. Its stalks grew strong and tall, and were covered with leaves like waving banners, and filled with ears of pearly grain wrapped in silken green husks. In those days Onatah, the Spirit of the Corn, walked upon the earth. The sun lovingly touched her dusky face with the blush of the morning, and her eyes grew soft as the gleam of the stars on dark streams. Her night-black hair was spread before the breeze like a wind-driven cloud. As she walked through the fields, the corn, the Indian maize, sprang up of itself from the earth and filled the air with its fringed tassels and whispering leaves. With Onatah walked her two sisters, the Spirits of the Squash and the Bean. As they passed by, squash-vines and bean-plants grew from the corn-hills. One day, Onatah wandered away alone in search of early dew. Then the Evil One of the earth, Hahgwehdaetgah, followed swiftly after. He grasped her by the hair and dragged her beneath the ground down to his gloomy cave. Then, sending out his fire-breathing monsters, he blighted Onatah's grain. And when her sisters, the Spirits of the Squash and the Bean, saw the flame- monsters raging

through the fields, they flew far away in terror. As for poor Onatah, she lay a trembling captive in the dark prison-cave of the Evil One. She mourned the blight of her cornfields, and sorrowed over her runaway sisters. ``O warm, bright sun!'' she cried, ``if I may walk once more upon the earth, never again will I leave my corn!'' And the little birds of the air heard her cry, and winging their way upward they carried her vow and gave it to the sun as he wandered through the blue heavens. The sun, who loved Onatah, sent out many searching beams of light. They pierced through the damp earth, and entering the prison-cave, guided her back again to her fields. And ever after that she watched her fields alone, for no more did her sisters, the Spirits of the Squash and Bean, watch with her. If her fields thirsted, no longer could she seek the early dew. If the flamemonsters burned her corn, she could not search the skies for cooling winds. And when the great rains fell and injured her harvest, her voice grew so faint that the friendly sun could not hear it. But ever Onatah tenderly watched her fields and the little birds of the air flocked to her service. They followed her through the rows of corn, and made war on the tiny enemies that gnawed at the roots of the grain. And at harvest-time the grateful Onatah scattered the first gathered corn over her broad lands, and the little birds, fluttering and singing, joyfully partook of the feast spread for them on the meadow-ground. www.Apples4theteacher.com

by Eagles Rhythm

A man once sat amongst the buffalo in the wild. The beast would allow the man to sit on it, to rest from his weariness. The man had a burden that weighed heavily on his heart. One day as he sat, the man sensed a rustling around him like a mild wind blowing around him. The Buffalo as it lay on the ground, took no notice of the softly shifting breeze. A shadow and softness caressed the man’s face, closing his eyes. Across his chest, slowing his heart. Down his arms, making them ever so heavy. It stopped. The man opened his eyes. What he saw, he had never before imagined. Four majestic Eagles flying all around him. Eagle spirit’s hovering and floating. Even Buffalo seemed content to not rise from his slumber. Eagles grazing their feathers over his face, his arms, his heart, his mind. “What was this?” he pondered.

not to ask what was going on. He somehow knew he was safe. All at once, he felt as though he was plummeting, in what seemed forever but was only a few feet. Landing softly into what looked a large nest filled with the spirits of eagle hatchlings. “Could it actually be the Eagles brought me to their nest?” “Wonder if Buffalo misses me?” Many thoughts ran through his mind all at once. His mind was reeling. He jumped. It seemed that he caught a glimpse of himself in the nest, from the Eagles point of view. Flying high above the nest they had brought him to. The man was astonished that he was so small, tiny. It seemed the man forgot about the once gigantic looking troubles he had once carried. They simply vanished away and were no longer hindering him. The man wondered at this. The Eagles gave his spirit relief. To drink a sense of wonder, awe, contentment. Replacing a troubled heart and burdened mind. The man could not guess how long he was away from Buffalo. The time he spent with the Eagles was immeasurable. It just seemed that time had stopped. He became aware that he was no longer in the nest with the other young Eagles. The man seemed to be flying. Over the winding canyons, over the lush falls and red rock. Flying, through the air like an Eagle. He awoke to the dawning light of morning shining and there he was once again content to rest on the Buffalo.

Suddenly in the next moment the man found himself on a litter, being lifted into the sky by the Eagles. He thought it best

Relationships

The interconnectiveness among all human beings and, consequently, the relationship among all beings is the focus of this section. The dynamics of the web of connections we make is one of the most prominent aspects of human existence: how we interlace with each other’s existence in a meaningful way.

Are You… An Emotional Empath?

By Judith Orloff

Empaths are highly sensitive, finely tuned instruments when it comes to emotions. They feel everything, sometimes to an extreme, and are less apt to intellectualize feelings. Intuition is the filter through which they experience the world. Empaths are naturally giving, spiritually attuned, and good listeners. If you want heart, empaths have got it. Through thick and thin, they’re there for you, world-class nurturers. The trademark of empaths is that they know where you’re coming from. Some can do this without taking on people’s feelings. However, for better or worse, others, like myself and many of my patients, can become angstsucking sponges. This often overrides the sublime capacity to absorb positive emotions and all that is beautiful. If empaths are around peace and love, their bodies assimilate these and flourish. Negativity, though, often feels assaultive, exhausting. Thus, they’re particularly easy marks for emotional vampires, whose fear or rage can ravage empaths. As a subconscious defense, they may gain weight as a buffer. When thin, they’re more vulnerable to negativity, a missing cause of overeating explored in my book Positive Energy. Plus, an empath’s sensitivity can be overwhelming in romantic relationships; many stay single since they haven’t learned to negotiate their special cohabitation needs with a partner. When empaths absorb the impact of stressful emotions, it can trigger panic attacks, depression, food, sex and drug binges, and a plethora of physical symptoms that defy traditional medical diagnosis from fatigue to agorophobia. Since I’m an empath, I want to help all my empath-patients cultivate this capacity and be comfortable with it. Empathy doesn’t have to make you feel too much all the time. Now that I can center myself and refrain from shouldering civilization’s discontents, empathy continues to make me freer, igniting my compassion, vitality, and sense of the miraculous. To determine whether you’re an emotional empath, take the following quiz.

QUIZ: AM I AN EMPATH? Ask yourself:  Have I been labeled as "too emotional" or overly sensitive?  If a friend is distraught, do I start feeling it too?  Are my feelings easily hurt?  Am I emotionally drained by crowds, require time alone to revive?  Do my nerves get frayed by noise, smells, or excessive talk?  Do I prefer taking my own car places so that I can leave when I please?  Do I overeat to cope with emotional stress?  Am I afraid of becoming engulfed by intimate relationships? If you answer "yes" to 1-3 of these questions, you're at least part empath. Responding "yes" to more than 3 indicates that you've found your emotional type. Recognizing that you're an empath is the first step in taking charge of your emotions instead of constantly drowning in them. Staying on top of empathy will improve your self-care and relationships. Emotional Action Step. How To Find Balance Practice these strategies to center yourself.  Allow quiet time to emotionally decompress. Get in the habit of taking calming mini-breaks throughout the day. Breathe in some fresh air. Stretch. Take a short walk around the office. These interludes will reduce the excessive stimulation of going non-stop.  Practice guerilla meditation. To counter emotional overload, act fast and meditate for a few minutes. This centers your energy so you don't take it on from others.  Define and honor your empathic needs. Safeguard your sensitivities. Here's how: o

If someone asks too much of you, politely tell them "no." It's not necessary to explain why. As the saying goes, "No is a complete sentence."

o

o

o

o

If your comfort level is three hours max for socializing--even if you adore the people--take your own car or have an alternate transportation plan so you're not stranded. If crowds are overwhelming, eat a highprotein meal beforehand (this grounds you) and sit in the far corner of, say, a theatre or party, not dead center. If you feel nuked by perfume, nicely request that your friends refrain from wearing it around you. If you can't avoid it, stand near a window or take frequent breaks to catch a breath of fresh air outdoors. If you overeat to numb negative emotions, practice the guerilla meditation mentioned above, before you're lured to the refrigerator, a potential vortex of temptation. As an emergency measure, keep a cushion by the fridge so you can be poised to meditate instead of binge.

o

Carve out private space at home. Then you won't be stricken by the feeling of too much togetherness.

Over time, I suggest adding to this list to keep yourself covered. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel each time you’re on emotional overload. With pragmatic strategies to cope, empaths can have quicker retorts, feel safer, and their talents can blossom Judith Orloff MD, an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at UCLA and intuition expert, is author of the new book Emotional Freedom: Liberate Yourself From Negative Emotions and Transform Your Life (Harmony Books, 2009) Her other bestsellers are Positive Energy, Intuitive Healing, and Second Sight. Dr. Orloff synthesizes the pearls of traditional medicine with cutting edge knowledge of intuition and energy medicine. She passionately believes that the future of medicine involves integrating all this wisdom to achieve emotional freedom and total wellness. www.drjudithorloff.com

Authenticity

And then there’s you By Gina Hardy shone the mirror within to see what’s really going on ? A very scary prospect for many. But it is only here that you can see where the real you resides and indeed the powerhouse of creation of your outer world. “As within, so without”.

It occurs to me, after seeing many clients for complementary therapies and indeed on my spiritual travels for the last 10 years, observing many hundreds of people that the state of our health is dictated by how much we allow ourselves to be authentic. And authenticity is directly linked to our relationships, primarily our love relationship. We are driven by a need to be loved and approved of, but often in an attempt to be loved people adapt the “self” to be what others want them to be. From caretaker to marriage partner the evolution of the self is largely dependant on the quality of relationships. Ask someone, are they being who they are meant to be and most people say yes, but then stop to think and say “well I think so” or “not sure” and in many cases a definite “no!”. Like intricate webs we have weaved relationships with family, friends and partners, identified ourselves with images of changing fashions, cars and gathered ever more things in an attempt to “feel” happy, but how often have we turned on ourselves and

Our birthright is to evolve and grow and be truly authentic in an effort to achieve total health, happiness and out there in the world now is an abundance of help to relieve the emotional, mental, spiritual and physical “baggage” we have accumulated. But how many of us can face ourselves and in absolute truth say “I am not who I am meant to be and I want to change it”. A tough decision but the only way I believe, to achieve the ultimate in life’s offerings. After much suffering and deep introspection I was propelled, without choice, on to a path of “awakening” some 10 years ago. I had health issues, I didn’t like who I had become in relationships with men particularly and I was crumbling in the pace of a fast life. Some people in my world were draining me and generally the vista of my life had many a black spot on it. My main suffering was, as with many people, a constant fruitless search for the “right person” who I could happily settle down and create the fairytale happy ending with. I morphed endlessly to please “current boyfriend” but didn’t understand why repeat patterns occurred with the same results. A heart breaking end and a never to be healed pain that got harder each time. One thing that OM-Times November 2009 Edition

I know now was that I was never being who I was meant to be. I was being what boyfriends wanted me to be to feel worthy of love. Our love relationship is without doubt our truest mirror. Our partners reflect back to us those parts of ourselves that we have disowned throughout life. We search for those missing parts in relationship with others, in jobs and in owning things. Unfortunately these bring temporary highs in happiness. Ultimately we are searching for wholeness and that can only gained through: 1) Self awareness and seeing ourselves in truth, however we may look at the time 2) Self acceptance through forgiveness 3) Commitment to change those parts of ourselves that cause us pain.

my life now contains no black spots and I am surrounded by amazing people that reflect the essence of who I really am. My relationship with men is at last healed and in the mirror now I see the real me. I am committed now to helping people discover themselves and seek inner truth, particularly in their love relationship, because this is where I believe true “self” growth lies. Man and woman are here to create union in love, it’s our Divine calling.

Gina Hardy is a relationship educator, yoga teacher and therapist and will be speaking on the subject of love at the Starting Over Show, Hilton Metropole Hotel, in Brighton on 28th March.

After awakening I embarked on a path of healing and growth using many complementary therapies and then trained over a 4 year period to become a healer and www.consciousunion.co.uk yoga teacher. As I stripped off www.ginahardy.blogspot.com the layers of past masks, the essence of my true self began to emerge in all its beauty. People, jobs and things that were not right for me fell away as the real me stepped forward. The Universal Law of Attraction demonstrated it’s power in my life and the saying “what you give out you get back” couldn’t be more true. The vista of Let your mantra be you. Letting Go

by Gary Eby

This article is all about the process of gaining freedom from oppressive thoughts and obsessive thinking. Today, I am worrying about getting my retirement pension finalized through the National Guard. Negative thoughts are challenging me. Actually, I am also parked in my Hyundai with the windows down and the top portal open, looking at the ocean from a roadside turnoff in Crescent City, California. I just had a marvelous lunch at the Harbor View Grotto. So I pop a huge Seattle Chocolate Toffee in my mouth, savoring the crunchy, milky sweetness of the candy. And, I let myself slowly recover from the two cranberry vodka cocktails I consumed at the Grotto. The ocean is calm on this early afternoon. Small white cap waves roll in over the cream colored sandy beach, which kisses the crescent shaped, green peninsula framing the bay area. Scattered cotton-ball clouds hover against a baby-blue sky. A slight mist-blanket dances in slow motion over the pine tree covered mountains nearby.

Some people are walking along the surf line. A few are flying multi-colored kites. Others are playing with their dogs. Several couples lovingly stroll hand in hand. The message I have decided to focus on for you is all about the power of letting go. This process isn't as easy as it seems. For example, the paper work for my twenty year military retirement has not been cleared by the National Guard Headquarters in Santa Fe, New Mexico. They acknowledged receiving the forms I mailed them, but they haven't returned my last four phone calls to confirm the status or progress of my pension. Can you relate to obsessing about a person, place, or thing that seemingly doesn't have a resolution? Presently, the sun is beaming through the top of my car portal. Soon I will need to join the beach walkers. For a few more minutes, I ponder the lunch at the Grotto: fresh baked, beer-battered, cod fish and chips; nippy coleslaw; sour dough bread; and the best clam chowder I have ever experienced. I think the first step to letting go is to get your mind off the problem for a while. I recall this trip to the Crescent City beach took about an hour and a half drive from Grants Pass, Oregon, on Highway 199 that eventually merged into 101 South. OM-Times November 2009 Edition

The one lane highway winds like an enormous African Python encircling ancient, brown and black lava mountains; stretching besides the shallow, clear, stony waters of the Smith River; culminating through an almost endless forest canopy populated by majestic Redwood trees. Easy to pretend I had entered a land of enchantment completed with ferries, giants, hobbits, and wizards. This experience illustrates my second step to releasing all that is negative. Allow yourself to embrace a form of meditation in motion, which comforts the spirit and releases the mind to embrace a blissful now. Thirdly, concentrate on breathing slowly in and out. Try to stay with a comforting, life affirming, mind picture. Unfortunately, reality can intervene at any time. For me, I was feeling too hot to remain in the car.

Consequently, I physically and metaphysically take up my folding chair, and I put it in the carrying case. With the case slung over my shoulders, I comb the beach in Crescent City, California. There is still one hawk circling above. The ocean symphony hugs my soul and lifts my spirit. Dogs chase after sticks and balls thrown by their human guardians in the surf. Lovers walk hand and hand at the water's edge. The problems with the National Guard will get worked out. Today, I choose to be at peace. Today, you have a right to let go, and join me in this special place of serenity by the sea.

Time to walk the hundred feet forward, and pass the couple on the drift wood log, who are embracing. Also, it's time to get personal with the mesmerizing sea waves. I set up my little carry on beach chair, admiring for a moment the names people have itched in the sand. The waves drum and undulate white, foamy, turquoise water. A little, dirty-white miniature poodle (the size of my foot) causes me to laugh as it runs through and tickles my legs. His master nervously apologizes by waving the empty dog leash in his hand. I let him know it's okay. Fourth tip, challenge the negativity with a mighty denial like "shut-the-heck-up!" Lift your head up high; scan the sky. For me, after sitting in my chair, I spot five hawks circling above. There is a slight, cool breeze in the air; temperature is about 68 degrees. I have on my jeans, and my jogging sweat-shirt, which keep me quite cozy. I notice a sea gull standing in the surf, at absolute peace despite my own personal challenges and anxieties. Last idea, simply choose to release the pressure within like clinching your fist tight and then slowly opening it. Turn ultimately to your source of faith or Higher Power to handle all fears, doubts, concerns, and obsessions. OM-Times November 2009 Edition

Should You Be Creating… or Competing? by Maria Khalife What is the real reason that business people do not foster partnerships as part of their business strategy? Don’t you think it’s sensible to think that if you partner with successful and powerful people, your business will also flourish? If you are learning and sharing with already successful business people, won’t it take you less effort to do what they’ve already done? One of the things that can keep your partnership success from happening is that you entertain some form of a sense of competition. A really successful business person knows that competing cannot be factored into the formula for his or her success because they fence you in and limit what you can achieve due to this restriction. If you carry along with you a strong sense of competition, woven into that are the following ideas: 

One of you is going to win and one of you is going to lose There is only so much abundance and it’s limited to one of you

Abundance is a fact, a Law of Nature. Abundance is there for the taking. You only have to become aware of this, permit it into your experience, and know that every single other business person has the very same option. Abundance and its expression is controlled by the way in which you think about abundance. If your mental

business model includes that success is yours for the taking, that abundance will flow in your direction, that only your own mind set (and not the thoughts or action of any so-called competitor) governs the expression of abundance, then you will receive in proportion to your willingness to think abundantly. Once you think there is socalled competition, you are the one forcing this unnecessary factor into your own success equation, and you are the only one who will own the results of such thinking. If you create a picture of what success should look like for you, and you entertain that picture in your mind on a steady, unrelenting basis, the results will be your complete success. Will the picture change? Of course. You will refine what you think success should look like as you proceed, and they you will experience the new picture of success. It’s a mind thing. It’s a mental process. It’s the process I’ve been using that has worked so well for me, and I now want to share with you. I encourage you to make this determination: I am going to be successful. I am determined nothing but success will be my experience. I know for a fact I’m only competing with my own last, best ideas, and they are improving as I move forward. I am grateful for this knowledge and I’m putting it to good use right now. OM-Times November 2009 Edition

FEAR

is a Four Letter Word by Sherry D. Ransom

FEAR is a four letter word that can be circumvented if it is truly understood. I have learned to see fear in its true clothing: F raming E verything bad As R eality When we experience FEAR, we suffer the imagined emotions that accompany living through the thing we fear. We suffer those emotions as if they have actually happened. Why is it that we find ourselves not willing to experience the emotions of JOY and LOVE with the same intensity? When was the last time that you sat and actually tried to FEEL the emotions that will accompany reaching your highest joy? Reverse your feelings. Refuse to experience the emotions of fear by repeating, "It is not real", until the feelings subside.

Instead, commit to feeling the positive emotions of reaching your dream vision. This will raise your energy level to attract miracles, coincidences and people who will serve your highest good. The power is in your hands - it has always been there. Discourage fear, instead encourage joy and love. There is only one person who can change your life - YOU! I will see you on the radio - Humanity Healing Hour - beginning November 9th

stream, and hundreds of blogs, from Mashable to VentureBeat, spread the story. (Click here and here to see additional metrics.) Epic Change invested the funds to build a classroom at a school founded by Tanzanian Epic Change fellow “Mama Lucy” Kamptoni, a woman who used to sell chickens and used her income to build a school that now serves over 300 children near her home in Arusha. In this classroom built from gratitude, the Twitter handles of donors are now painted on the walls.

2009 Plans: Epic Thanks In 2009, Epic Change will expand this global groundswell of gratitude by including live events across the globe and reaching out to even more online communities. Most exciting, with a recent grant from IdeaBlob that was also won through successful social media efforts in Tanzania and across the globe, Epic Change will be partnering with Kamptoni in Tanzania to implement a technology lab at the primary school where last year’s TweetsGiving classroom was built. Expect groundbreaking participation from students and teachers at the school in Arusha during this year’s event.

TweetsGiving 2008: The Classroom Built from Gratitude Epic Change launched the original TweetsGiving celebration in November 2008 as a 48-hour celebration of gratitude and giving that successfully raised over $10,000 to build a classroom in Arusha, Tanzania. Imagined and built entirely by volunteers in six days, TweetsGiving was launched 2 days before the US Thanksgiving holiday, and quickly became the #1 trending topic on Twitter as thousands of grateful tweets from across the globe filled the

Proceeds will again, in part, benefit the school, where a dormitory/orphanage, library, school cafeteria and additional classrooms are much needed. In addition, TweetsGiving 2009 seeks to fund new Epic Change partners and fellows in other parts of the world. Beginning in 2010, we’ll be looking for

Our Story It all began with Lars Olsen who was volunteering in Nepal for a period of five months. Lars spent 5 months in 2004 working in two orphanages and teaching English at a local Primary School. “I fell in love with the children of Nepal, those with no family, no possessions, no schooling, and yet they had this beauty about them – their ability to smile and laugh, when in their wake lay nothing but hardships, was tremendously uplifting for me. Here were children who looked upon life with simplicity and love, children that had developed compassion and wisdom at such a young age.” Within that time he lived with a Nepali family who welcomed him into their home and treated him as a son. Lars worked at a local school teaching English to children from Grade 1 through to Grade 7. In the mornings and afternoons he visited two orphanages, the first being the ‘Balamandir Orphanage’, housing and feeding in excess of 350 orphans. Balamandir is the only government run orphanage in Nepal. The second was a much smaller orphanage called ‘Shree Mother Disabled Orphanage’, which is home to only 30 children of various ages, some of whom have crippling disabilities. During his visits to these orphanages, Lars played games with the children, taught them basic English, and distributed many necessary hygiene items that people from a Western culture take for granted: items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shoes, underwear, medicine, and most importantly, clean water.

plan, I just knew that I wanted to help, and my heart cried out for those children and their beautiful innocence.”

Establishing the Children’s Home While in Nepal, Lars decided that he wanted to start a new orphanage – to give the children of Nepal a chance to thrive in a loving environment. In his travels, Lars met Shova Singh, a Nepali woman who had a history of helping out in many different orphanages in Nepal. Shova also shared the dream of creating a place of safety and love for the children of Nepal. And so Forget Me Not Children’s Home was born! A committee was formed in Nepal and a constitution for the organization was drafted. Lars then returned to Australia in September 2004 to find out how to establish the organization in Australia. In March 2005 the Nepali

There was one group of children that Lars and some other volunteers took out for a night stay at a hotel. The whole group had never encountered a doorknob before and thus didn’t know how to open it, and even more amazingly, none knew how to turn on a tap at a sink or shower. “I spent the whole night listening to them sing as they had baths and washed their hair for the first time in their lives. I knew then that this is what I wanted to do, I wanted to start an orphanage and help to improve the quality of life of those surrounding me. I had no initial OM-Times November 2009 Edition

government approved the constitution – finally Forget Me Not had become a reality (on paper, at least!).

People were excited to be able to undertake the responsibility of sponsoring our girls.

By this stage support had also been slowly growing in Australia. Dinner and a chat around the kitchen table at Lars’ sister Mietta’s house had spurned into action both Mietta and Katy (who both sit on the Management Committee). With legal training put into action, the trio soon had many ideas on how to structure the organization in Australia.

In July 2006, our first visitors traveled to Nepal to experience the Children’s Home firsthand. Their experiences were detailed in journals sent back to Australia every few days – a tradition that has been followed since – allowing other members of Forget Me Not to walk the journey with them.

At this point, the trio approached the local Hervey Bay newspapers who were keen to publish the story. Our initial news article called for a public meeting in the local Hervey Bay area to see if anyone in the community was interested in helping out. With over 45 people turning up, we realized that there was a great passion in the community for helping others.

By 2007, the number of children had reached 12 and number of staff was four. Our rented premises were getting cramped. We decided to move to bigger rented premises while we were saving enough money to buy. The Nepali Committee organized for us to move to a large four storey house in a suburb called Old Baneshwor. Our new house was able to accommodate more children – and by the end of 2007, our number had grown to 21 children!

With so much support, we decided to form a charitable association called the “Australian Association of the Forget Me Not Children’s Home”. Our constitution was prepared, with Katy spending many hours on paperwork and red tape, and finally in September 2005 we became a fully fledged incorporated charity! With all the red tape done and dusted, we then turned our focus to another exciting event – raising enough money to open our children’s home!

Opening the Children’s Home – 2006 After many fundraisers in Australia, Lars returned to Nepal in January 2006 to oversee a very special moment for Forget Me Not – the opening of our Children’s Home. Lars and the Nepali Committee set about hiring staff and getting our rented premises ready for our new arrivals. Our first six children arrived on the 29th January 2006 – Ruma, Anita, Barme, Alisha, Rupa and Namrata. With six little girls sheltered in our Children’s Home, Forget Me Not had become a physical reality and we were excited!

The vision grows – 2007/2008

The Future The Association is currently fundraising in order to buy land and build a permanent home for our children. There is a lot of groundwork that needs to be covered in order for the Association to accomplish its goals. We continue to work with passion and enthusiasm to give these children a better life. Why not join us in this journey?

The Shift For those traveling the winding roads of Self-Knowledge, it is necessary to be aware of energy shifts and their consequences while not losing perspective. Without the explicit intention to be iconoclastic, we offer you actual examinations of the cosmic reality from different outlooks, the flow of energy and its influence in individual life journeys. The multiplicity of the phenomena of the Shift cannot be translated based solely from one’s own point of view. We invite you to experience others’ and share yours.

Ancient Being in Modern Times As progress is made towards gaining a deeper understanding of the reality of nature, a crossroads is met. It becomes important to accept an ancient view from within, while balancing a modern method of operation. Thus the juggling act ensues.

overlooked. Evidenced by the repeated attacks upon indigenous peoples all across the planet. We would be wise to listen to them.

My primary, default, spiritual understandings always revert to nature. I would like to add that I would never place nature above humanity or below us either. Things seem to function smoothest when a balance of respect flows between the two. While it is tempting to passionately wish for nature to be restored to it's purity before the advents of modern life, it is not very realistic. Just as it would be wise to consider the strain modern life puts on nature. There is a balance point. Many would say we are destroying our environment through our modern way of living. I would agree in many aspects. I would however disagree with the plan being implemented world wide to correct it. The implications of our actions will remain for a long time. The distress of the moment should be considered very carefully. A plan that would tax carbon output, a natural element of life, would have devastating effects on all life! As many of us have come to realize, the intentions of our actions will guide the outcome to a great degree. As many also know, our ancestors left us a legacy to carry on, while progressing in a way that respects all things. Our understandings have progressed to where we understand how delicate the interconnections can be, but also how resilient nature can be. We will find a way. One of the most useful ways to reconnect with the spirit of nature is to unplug the clock, throw away the calendar and move effortlessly with the seasons. Of course modern life with its demands and schedules makes that difficult. To embrace the spirit of the seasons provides a reconnection to ancient cycles of life. The simple lessons learned from these connections can provide the energy for the motivation to how best inspire us to move forward. The beauty and awe should be enough to move us forward. Unfortunately it is not enough. The reverence, respect and custodianship that have been placed in our hands by our ancestors have been

The best chance of enhancing our planet for the good of all mankind lies in a merger of the best of both worlds. Technology properly implemented can have a wonderful effect on our way of life, provided we do not destroy anything as a result. It is very simple. But not always easy. It must be understood that there are ways to progress without destroying. My heartfelt belief is we would be far better off demanding our taxes be used for further research into truly beneficial energy systems that would enhance and strengthen the ecosystem instead of exploiting and depleting it.

Understanding the Shift

By Darrell Johnson

We are at a very momentous and important period in our planet’s history and existence. An Johnson awakeningBy Darrell of consciousness is taking place all around the world today, as we are collectively beginning to understand and realize who and what we truly are, and our literal connection to one another and the universe. With every passing day the illusions of limitation, divisiveness and separation are falling away. Even with the constant bombardment of negativity and ongoing attempts at polarization through fear and intimidation from forces that would try to keep this wave of spiritual energy at bay, the shift is occurring. The light is here to stay. What is this shift? It is an awakening to our true identity. It is the light being switched on in each and every one of us to the conscious understanding of who and what we truly are. We are Soul, a divine spark of All That Is. We are eternal; we have always existed and we will always be. We inhabit a body, but this body is not who and what we are; it is merely a vehicle that we have been given to have mobility and experience on this physical plane of existence. We have been here many times before, in many different incarnations over millennia and have gained exceptional insights through our collective experience. We are the sum total of all of our experiences. This shift occurring is the lifting of the veil of what could be called spiritual amnesia, placed over each and every one of us so as to gain experience in lower world existence. The shift is in fact a multi-dimensional transition, an increase in the vibratory rate of current existence from 3rd density into 4th (and for some, 5th) density reality. This rise in our vibrational level brings with it an inevitable trigger of awakened consciousness and enlightenment for all who accept the change. I say “accept” because free will dictates that this

transition is one of choice. We must all individually and collectively make a knowing choice as to whether or not we will embrace the love inherent in Divine enlightenment or continue to accept the status-quo consciousness of divisiveness, fear and the limited dense and negatively charged polarity that has plagued us for so long. What I am talking about here are polarities of energy. Understand that everything is energy. When we break down our fundamental state of existence to the quantum level, it is all energy; it is all consciousness. These energies come in unlimited vibratory rates; polarities. We have for quite some time now lived in a crude and dense 3rd dimensional energy center. Within 3rd density, there are some forms of consciousness that have chosen to thrive here. Rather than embrace the light, they prefer this denser, more negatively charged form of energy and consciousness. It is for this reason that I say you have a choice. To embrace the dense, negative polarity means to reject the enlightenment that Spiritual evolution into 4th and higher density reality brings. Inevitably all will flow back to Source, but spiritual free will mandates that this occur only when Soul is ready. So how do we accept this shift? We do so simply by embracing the love that is inherent in each and every one of us. It is the Divine seed placed in all of us from the moment of our beginning. We are divine sparks of the Creator, endowed with all of the qualities therein. We are the microcosm of the macrocosm. The driving force behind our very existence is one based on love. As we embrace this divine energy and realize the oneness between us and all that exists, enlightenment becomes inevitable. We should also ask for help and guidance within. However you choose to express your higher power, ask for inner assistance and guidance in helping you move forward, both inwardly and outwardly in the process of conscious OM-Times November 2009 Edition

enlightenment. Answers will come to you. Connections will be made through both inner and outer channels as well as synchronicity with likeminded Souls ready to engage in spiritual dialogue and discourse. Be ready for these opportunities when they are presented to you. As this rise in vibrational reality occurs, it will be important to monitor your thoughts. Remember, thoughts are things. Thoughts have the ability to think, and their primary mission is to manifest what you project. So mental discipline will become even more important as we make this transition, because our ability to manifest and out-picture the things in our lives (whether we are consciously aware or not) will occur with much greater speed and proficiency. As such, our choice to embrace the love and reject the fear becomes ever more important, because you ultimately reap what you sow. As we evolve spiritually during this shift, one very important aspect of this enlightenment process is the realization that all that you have ever needed to know has always been with you. You begin to discover that your task has not been to learn anything, but merely to remember what you already know. All truth is within you now. Your task of enlightenment is to awaken to it and bring it all back into conscious recognition and action. To coin a phrase from the movie DUNE, “The sleeper must awaken.” The shift becomes a change in perspective, perception and awareness, for it is all about expanding consciousness. We are all in the midst of a spiritual evolution. Within this shift will come a change in behavior from divisiveness to connectedness and oneness. We know we can no longer continue to do the same things we’ve been doing to our world and each other, and expect different outcomes. This is absolute insanity. We all, each and every one of us, have a choice to make. Do we accept this change occurring within each of us or do we fall victim to the status quo traps built into the illusion of negativity and fear? I urge you to accept the love. It starts with one person. That person shares their truth with another, and then another. The sparks are lit, and eventually the love changes from a spark to a wildfire and becomes a spiritual movement. It is already happening. This movement is already taking place worldwide. It is not a hierarchical movement, but one based on a recognition of

oneness with all people and an urgent need to love and help each other, and save the planet and its resources. We can no longer be spectators in our evolution. We must now be full participants in this process. It starts with a conscious shift within, a conscious choice to uplift and change. This is not a religious movement, it is a spiritual awakening. It transcends all theologies and belief systems. It is a direct reconnection with Source. Make the choice, embrace the love, become the shift.

WORLD VISION When you look at the view of Earth from space, you are immediately in awe of what you do see: the incredible beauty of Creation. It is not until you look closer that you realize what you do not see. You do not see lines partitioning countries. You do not see separation between races. You do not see division between religions. You do not see the walls people build to isolate themselves from each other. There is just One Planet. There is only One Humanity. This section is dedicated to introducing thoughts and ideas to foster a greater understanding of Humanity’s interdependence.

For Architect Khalili, Rumi Inspires 21st Century Housing Solutions “Super adobe” uses material at hand to build shelters on Earth and in space

NADER KHALILI, ARCHITECT AND HUMANITARIAN (1936-2008)

The richness of one of the world’s most ancient cultures, the vision of a 13th century Persian poet, and the freedom and opportunity offered by the world’s most modern country have inspired a leading Iranian-American architect to find new solutions to one of the world’s oldest problems.

“There are more than 800 million people who live in shantytowns made of scraps of tin and wood, or have no shelter at all,” says Nader Khalili from his office in Hesperia, California. “It has become my dream to find a solution to house these people.” From this small town at the edge of the Mojave Desert, Khalili has worked for almost two decades to show that the solution he seeks does not lie in the development of high-tech compounds or expensive construction techniques. Instead it will come, he believes, from the simplest of materials – sandbags, plastic tubing, wire, earth and fire. As for construction techniques, he says, “Imagine the concentric wooden doughnuts that you stack up as a children’s toy.”

Khalili believes that the techniques he uses will make houses all but fireproof and will cost 40-60 percent less than for other buildings. He adds that energy savings from the use of natural materials to insulate against both heat and cold could pay for the entire cost of the house within a few years. He refers frequently to the word “sustainability” when speaking of his structures to indicate that they rely on materials and techniques that put little burden on distressed natural environments. And as if to show that the simplest ideas can prove the most innovative, Khalili’s work not only offers hope to the inhabitants of this world, but has also drawn the interest of the scientific community as a promising means for sheltering humans when they establish bases on the moon or Mars. The path that led Khalili to the discovery of the essential truths was not in itself simple. During the 1970s, Khalili was one of Iran’s most prominent architects, specializing in skyscrapers and splitting his life between his offices in Los Angeles and Tehran. His face had become familiar to millions of Iranians through his frequent television appearances. Yet, in the midst of his fame and success, he found that he had grown disillusioned with architecture. “I was in competition for projects and contracts. But I felt I was in the rat race,” he says. “I never really helped people.” OM-Times November 2009 Edition

A child’s footrace proved to be the turning point in his life. During a picnic at a park in Tehran, a number of children, including his own young son, started racing. “Parents were encouraging their children to run faster, to win the race,” he recalls. His son, however, at four and half years old, was the youngest, and time after time finished last. Embarrassed and upset, he said to his father, “I want to race by alone.” At first Khalili tried to persuade his son to keep racing with the others, but then relented. “So,” Khalili said, “after everyone had left, I drew a line on the ground and he raced around the park by himself.” He found that his son was not only happier, “but each time he came back to the start, he had discovered something interesting in the park. He was running even slower than before, but I noticed that not only was he enjoying his race, he also always came in first.” He realized that his son’s experience spoke to his own life. As he has recounted in his book “Racing by Myself” (“Tanhaa Davidan” in the Persian edition), he vowed that, “I would race to my own potential rather than trying to beat someone else.” Soon he gave up his architectural practice, bought a motorcycle and went into the Iranian desert for five years seeking new inspiration. As he looked at his country with new eyes, he saw great simplicity and value in its traditional architecture, especially in the thousands upon thousands of villages made of mud houses. “They were very simple, but very sophisticated in their use of natural elements,” Khalili says. “I wanted to learn. I began to have this dream of building structures from earth and fire.” He also began studying the writing of Jalaluddin Mohammad, known as Rumi, the 13th century Persian poet who wrote of the unity of all life and the elements of the earth. From Rumi’s vision Khalili took his own inspiration to use natural materials to create modern habitations. “When I was in the desert,” Khalili says, “I became familiar with five personalities: water, air, earth, fire, and Rumi. I learned the language of spiritualism and it is embedded in my own life. Even my work in Hesperia is from Rumi.” “I soon realized,” Khalili says, “that if I made buildings of mud – as in the villages – and then set them on fire, I could turn them into ceramic houses that lasted much

Emergency shelters at a UN Refugee Camp

longer.” He named these “geltaftan,” or, in English, by the term he used for the title of his second book, “Ceramic Houses.” “But,” he says, “everything was in high tech at the time of the Shah, and I had no chance to work this out.” Ironically, when the revolution ended the old administrative system, he found the opportunity he had been looking for. “There was no more municipality, no more ministry. I had a totally free hand,” he says. Khalili attracted students and other architects who came to learn how to create safe shelters with his ceramic structures. “It gave them a way to use traditions while integrating them with modern life,” Khalili says. Eventually, though, the revolution created its own order, and the new bureaucracy proved as obstructionist as the old. In 1981 Khalili decided to move back to Los Angeles, where he was a licensed architect and had been offered a teaching position in Los Angeles. “The difference between the United States and Iran,” Khalili says, “is not just in high tech and management, but in enthusiasm and dreams. This is the greatest wealth that the United States has to offer. Everyone, from kids to the elderly, speaks of their dreams.” At the same time, says Khalili, “I came to see how Iran’s traditional culture could make an impact in the United States. The popularity of Rumi’s poetry is one example. Sustainable architecture is another.” He calls the material he uses in his more recnt work “super adobe.” With it, he builds structures primarily of sandbags and barbed wire – materials of war, turned to peaceful use. These structures have attracted the OM-Times November 2009 Edition

attention not only of architects in the United States, from whom he received wide recognition, but from the United Nations. The UN has taken a great interest in using Khalili’s simple techniques to build emergency shelters for refugees or for those who have lost their homes in natural disasters. During the early 1980s, he also began working with the scientific community, which saw great promise for space habitation in his ceramic, or “super adobe” houses. His presentation at the National Academy of Sciences on the use of lunar soil to build simple structures on the moon drew cheers – a reaction not usually seen at staid academic conferences. Because the cost of launching a pound of material into space exceeds that of two pounds of gold, the potential for using materials at hand has proven understandably popular. Meanwhile, in the town of Hesperia, Khalili has built several structures which meet southern California’s seismic and other building codes – among the toughest in the world, he says. Using sandbags, and barbed wire to keep the stacked sandbags from slipping, he is now building a modern middle-class home with three bedrooms and a two-car garage in Hesperia. It is little wonder that the mayor of Hesperia has said that Khalili could revolutionize the housing construction industry. Even more often than he speaks of sustainability, Khalili talks of the inspiration he has taken from Rumi. In Iran, Khalili says, every cultured person memorizes poetry and knows of the work this poet. Khalili has even published a book translating much of Rumi’s work into English, and through the work of Khalili and many others, Rumi has become one of the best-selling poets in the United States.

Every moment a voice out of this world calls on our soul to wake up and rise this soul of ours is like a flame with more smoke than light blackening our vision letting no light through lessen the smoke and more light brightens your house the house you dwell in now and the abode you'll eventually move to now my precious soul how long are you going to waste yourself in this wandering journey can't you hear the voice can't you use your swifter wings to hear the call ~ Rumi Poems from Rumi: Fountain of Fire, A Celebration of Life and Love, courtesy of CalEarth Press, 1994, translated from the Persian by Nader Khalili.

According to Khalili, Rumi believed in the “unity of life and the elements.” Each one is created from the other. In following that vision of unity, he says, he is not simply inventing a new architectural vocabulary from ancient traditions, but is well on his way to achieving his own vision of providing shelter for those most in need, “trying to turn poetry into structures.” To learn more about Khalili’s work, go to the Cal-Earth web site at: http://www.calearth.org

Women, Universal Responsibility and the Healing of Nations By Rene Wadlow

We should begin to develop from the level of the individual through that of society to the world at large, what I call a sense of universal responsibility: a deep respect for every living being who lives on this one small planet and calls it home. The Dalai Lama On 31 October 2002, the UN Security Council adopted unanimously Resolution 1325 urging “Member States to ensure increased representation of women at all decision-making levels in national, regional and international institutions and mechanisms for the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts.” Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security was the first time that the UN Security Council acknowledged that women play a key role in promoting sustainable peace and stressed the participation of women in peace processes from the prevention of conflict, to negotiations, to post-war reconstruction and reconciliation. Work for such a resolution in the Security Council had begun at least five years earlier at the 1995 Beijing Conference on Women with its Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, and

especially at the non-governmental forum which had been held just outside Beijing, where peacemaking was an important theme. In January 2000, to mark five years since the Beijing Conference, there was an important meeting of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) along with governmental observers, at the UN Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland on the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action. With more than 650 participants from 51 countries, there was a broad cross section of views. It was the first such NGO conference since the 1990 end of the Cold War. Thus there were a large number of representatives from Russia, other states of the former Soviet Union as well as Eastern Europe. The report of the Conference stressed in particular that “It is necessary that women participate politically in all decisions which influence their lives, especially at conception, execution and evaluation of development programmes and of official peace negotiations. Participation in economic decisions should be guaranteed at all levels of decision-making. Consideration must be given to women’s diversity: particularly young and older women must be fully integrated in decision-making and the policy process. In order to assume women’s equality and participation at all levels of public life, governments must recognize NGOs as an essential factor of democracy.” A good number of the participants both women and men, including myself, had long experience with the UN system. We thought that a resolution by the UN Security Council would have the most impact since it rarely discussed social issues. There had been numerous resolutions of the UN Economic and Social Council or the UN Commission on Human Rights dealing with the equality and importance of women. However such resolutions had had OM-Times November 2009 Edition

limited impact on national governments’ policy or UN agencies. A UN Security Council resolution would get more attention and indicate a link between the security of States — the chief mandate of the Security Council — and what was increasingly called ‘human security’ — that is, the security of people. Thus following the Geneva meeting, there was a need to convince the members of the Security Council, which meets usually in New York, that such a resolution was needed. Intense contacts were made between NGO representatives in New York and Security Council members, as well as with Foreign Ministry officials. It would be too much to say that there was enthusiasm for such a resolution, but there were few governments which wanted to say publicly that women are not important. Moreover the 1990s had been a decade of intrastate conflicts especially in former Yugoslavia, the former USSR, and Africa. The fate of women and children was on the minds of many governmental delegates, and so the resolution called attention to the “special needs of women and girls during repatriation and resettlement and for rehabilitation, reintegration and post-conflict reconstruction.” It was also important to find the balance between calling attention to the special needs of women and children in times of conflict and yet not reinforce the stereotype of women as victims only. Thus, there was a need to stress the important positive role that women play as peacebuilders and their potential role in peace processes and negotiations.

train women to move to action. The planning of the Security Council meetings was such that the resolution was adopted on 31 October — a day which is marked in the USA as Halloween. At Halloween, children dress up in costumes such as ghosts and witches. This led to some unkind but private remarks concerning the large number of women in the public section of the Security Council chamber that “the witches are out tonight.” Resolution 1325 is an important building tool for the role of women in peacemaking. The resolution, by itself, has not changed things radically. There are still few women at the table when serious peace negotiations or reconstruction planning is undertaken. However, Resolution 1325 sets out the guidelines, and now NGOs, governments, and UN agencies can work to transform these guidelines into practice.

Politics and the occult: the left, the right and the radically unseen By Rene Wadlow

F

Gary Lachman (Wheaton, IL: Quest Books, 2008, 261pp.)

I

Gary Lachman has written a very useful and G sober book on esoteric current in modern U political thought — modern meaning here R from the Protestant Reformation to the E present. A sober book is necessary as the internet is filled with wild speculation about 1 role of the Illuminati on the political and the financial system. The current meltdown of the banks and the stock markets does nothing to diminish the conspiracy theories of IlluminatiRosicrucian hands pulling strings. The same ideas are found in the Protocols of the Elders of Zion where the controlling hands have been transferred to the Jews. The Protocols have, alas, become a best seller in the Middle East, but my impression is that the Illuminati are the lead manipulators on the internet. Lachman deals primarily with the impact of personalities, drawing good portraits of those involved. For readers more interested in the ideas themselves, I would recommend Antoine Faivre and Jocob Needleman (Eds.) Modern Esoteric Spirituality (New York: Crossroad Publishing, 1995, 413pp.) as the best overview.

The Protestant Reformation broke the strangle hold of the Catholic Church on theology and its translation into political principles, owning much to the classic if rigid approach of Thomas Aquinas. It is only in the very recent past, when devoid of political control, that Aquinas has provided a fertile ground for political thought, especially in the writing of the French political philosopher Jacques Maritain. By breaking the monopoly of the Catholic Church on the theology-politics connection, the Protestant Reformation opened the door to a wide range of religious ideas and their political manifestations. From the Ranters, the Quakers, the Brethern, to the Moravian Church of Count Nikolaus Zinzendorf (1700-1760) — what is often termed the Radical Reformation — upset the political thinking of Europe with their equalitarian practices and emphasis on the Inner Light in all. The European political authorities did not mistake the challenge these groups posed to the established order, and nearly all the groups left for America where they have become part of the unesoteric and largely nonpolitical scene of US Protestantism. Lachman does not analyse the two religions of American roots with strong esoteric elements: Joseph Smith and the Mormons and Mary Baker Eddy and Christian Science. The influence of the Mormons on Utah politics and the political impact of the Christian Science Monitor might merit books in themselves. William Blake and Emanuel Swedenborg are part of the esoteric current in Protestant thought, but their political influence is small. Blake, however, had a spiritual vision of what England might be.

There are four moments when esoteric thinking entered social and political currents in a serious way: the Protestant Reformation, the 18th century with the American and French Revolutions, the first half of the 1900s anticolonial movements especially in India and China, and today in the efforts to develop the political meaning of New Age-Age of Aquarius thought. T

he influence of esoteric thought in the American and French Revolutions is well brought out by Lachman, building on a large body of historical scholarship. Freemasonry is the classic ‘esoteric movement ‘ — a group reserved for the few which through ceremonies and symbols conveys a body of moral, religious and spiritual traditions. Although Masonry claims to represent ancient teachings, as an organization the first Grand Lodge was established in England in 1717 and in France in 1735. The Masons placed an emphasis on written constitutions in which basic principles were outlined first, followed by the rules of the administration of the Lodge. The Masonic orders spread from England to the American colonies, and American Revolutionary leaders, in particular George Washington, were Masons. Both the first postRevolution Articles of Confederation and the later American Constitution followed the Masonic principle of setting out the principles of association which were to be known by Reason and not Revelation, followed by the structure of the government. The three-fold structure of government — executive, legislative, judicial — is also probably linked to a Masonic use of the number three. The first post-Revolution French constitution followed the same pattern, and especially the lasting Revolutionary Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen. In the USA, there was no counter-revolutionary movement. Those loyal to English rule left for Canada and had no further influence on US politics. In France, on the other hand, there was a strong and persistent Royalist counter-revolution often linked to mystic Catholic thought and the creation of esoteric societies. Some of this religious counter-revolutionary thought still exists within French Right Wing movements. Right Wing hatred of Masonic movements for being at the base of democratic thought led the French Vichy government (1940-1944) to outlaw Masonic movements and to jail known Masons. The third period of impact might be called “The Awakening of the East”, basically India and China. The image that both Western esoteric thinkers and Asian reformers had was of countries sleeping. See the excellent study of early 1900s Chinese reformers: John Fitzgerald Awakening China (Stanford: Stanford University Press, 1996, 461pp.). In India, the same image of a civilization asleep but which had much to offer the world if it would awake was used by Annie Besant and Myra Alfassa who became the ‘Mother’ of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. For a good overview of Annie Besant’s work for self-rule in India see Authur H. Nethercot The First Five Lives of Annie Besant (London: Rupert Hart-Davis, 1961, 435pp.) especially the second volume Arthur H. Nethercot The Last Four Lives of Annie Besant (London: Rupert HartDavis, 1963, 483 pp.). Both Annie Besant and earlier, H.P. Blavatsky’s understanding of the role of India and the need for its Independence from England came from the analysis of the Kalachakra (The Wheel of Time), an Indian text written around the year 1000 AD. The Kalachakra has now disappeared in its Indian form and is preserved in its Tibetan version. There are many levels of meaning in the Kalachakra, but on one level it is a presentation of past.

Take Your Life to the Next Level ! New York Times best-selling author, renowned teacher, and medical intuitive Caroline Myss specializes in assisting people in understanding the emotional, psychological, and physical reasons why their bodies have developed an illness. In Entering the Castle, Caroline offered a contemporary view of the classical mystical experience, encouraging the reader to discover his or her 'inner castle'—a metaphor for the soul inspired by the magnificent teachings of the 16th century mystical theologian Saint Teresa of Ávila. Now, in Defy Gravity: Healing Beyond the Bounds of Reason Caroline directs readers to leave their reason at the door, so to speak, and enter the realm of mystical consciousness—not just for healing but as a way of life. Caroline challenges the conventional approach to healing, which maintains that we can always find reasons for why things happen as they do. We can't. And now it's time to explore a model for healing that leads us into deeper and more effective truths. "After working in the field of health and healing for more than two decades, I have come to believe that we as a society have not fully animated the body-mind-spirit trinity that is the foundation of [the holistic model of] health, for a simple reason: we are still enamored of the more familiar power of the mind and intimidated by the less familiar, the mystical and transformational regions of the soul. And, so, although we may use the language of the spirit, we frequently retreat into the methods of the mind, which primarily indulge our need to find reasons why events happen as they do in our lives. The underlying premise is that if we can excavate these reasons, then our lives will return to normal. We will recover our health, just as vibrant as it was before the illness struck. But that rarely happens, because this system of reasoning our way through illness and crisis is undermined by a fundamental

flaw: We cannot reason our way back to health. Our intellect is an inadequate vehicle to carry us through the arduous journey of healing. Healing requires far more of us than just the participation of our intellectual and even our emotional resources. Healing is, by definition, taking a process of disintegration of life and transforming it into a process of return to life. The mind cannot accomplish such a task. Only the soul has the power to bring the body back to life. If it weren't for the fact that I have now witnessed this phenomenon several times, I would not venture into the territory of healing with enough confidence to share my findings with others. But I have been a witness to healings, and some might even say I have facilitated these healings because of what I now teach, namely, mystical wisdom blended with all that I have learned about human consciousness and this journey we share called life." Drawing from her years as a medical intuitive and teacher, Caroline shares real-life stories of people who were considered "terminal cases" and, through nothing short of a miracle, survived their illnesses. Inspired by these ordinary people who overcame a wide array of physical and psychological ailments—from cancer to advanced diabetes—Caroline utilizes the wisdom of the great mystics, whose writings provide a deeper understanding of the spiritual underpinnings of healing. Based on these studies, she introduces a model of healing that draws on an understanding of the relationship between our seven shadow passions and our seven inner graces. "The people I know who have experienced healings told me that they were able to detach from their pre-existing images of God. Indeed, they managed to detach from everything—their wounds, their need to be right, their need to win, their need to know why things happened as they did in their lives. In doing so, they discovered that all they really surrendered was their fear, their darkness—

OM-Times November 2009 Edition

and, much to their great awe, their disease. In giving up these things, they were given everything they needed, beginning with their lives. That was the pattern that I saw in all of the healings that I witnessed, the pattern that became the inspiration for this book. I realized that healing was not a matter of visualizations, sacred oils, processing wounds, lighting candles, and all the rest. Ultimately, healing is the result of a mystical act of surrender, an awakening that transcends any religion. It is an intimate dialogue of truth between the individual and the Divine." Integral to this mystical healing approach is the engagement of the soul, which we experience through abandoning the fruitless quest for reason and logic and working in harmony with the mystical laws that govern our lives. This knowledge holds the key to understanding what it means to defy gravity and break through the boundaries of ordinary thought. In doing so, you come to understand how to bring closure to personal suffering and find the courage to build a new life. "We now stand at a pivotal moment of change in human history. Part of that change calls us finally to embrace our inner consciousness, not with words alone, but through understanding the profound mystical nature of life. I believe deeply that many people are more than ready to learn how to defy gravity in their lives-not just in order to heal from an illness or navigate a crisis, but as an integral part of everyday life." This inspiring book teaches you what it means to defy gravity and break through the boundaries of ordinary thought. You can heal any illness. You can channel grace. And you can learn to live fearlessly.

Praise for Defy Gravity

"I adore Caroline Myss. She is a visionary teacher who can see beyond the boundaries of ordinary thought where you can heal any illness, you can channel grace, and you can live fearlessly." —Louise Hay, Founder of Hay House and author of You Can Heal Your Life "Caroline has found an utterly modern and timely way of describing for us the essential healing journey enshrined at the heart of the world's major mystical traditions. There is nothing easy or consoling to the mind or ego about such a journey; but what it offers, as Caroline makes marvelously and methodically clear, is a wholly new evolutionally level of empowerment . . . This is a book to read and savor again and again, to learn from and live by." —Andrew Harvey [from the Foreword of Defy Gravity],

Founding Director of the Institute for Sacred Activism and author of The Hope

"In Defy Gravity, Caroline Myss offers a new model of transformation and healing that will shift how we perceive crisis and illness. A must-read." —Deepak Chopra, M.D., author of Reinventing the Body, Resurrecting the Soul "It is rare that an author and teacher as accomplished and influential as Caroline Myss would, with each book, discover whole new vistas, and then report back to us with her legendary clarity and passion. With Defy Gravity she has done it again. Anyone in need of healing—healing from illness, anxiety, fear, or heartbreak—will find enormous help in this book. It is a tonic made of light and wisdom." —Elizabeth Lesser, co-founder, Omega Institute and author of

Broken Open: How Difficult Times Can Help Us Grow

"Caroline has been one of my most important spiritual teachers. In her new book, she continues to pierce both hearts and minds with arrows of truth." —Marianne Williamson, author of The Age of Miracles and A Return to Love "Caroline Myss is the most outstanding voice in the field of spirituality and healing alive on the planet today. In Defy Gravity she challenges some of our culture's most cherished myths about healing, inviting the reader to exit the prison of reason and enter the 'field of grace' from which miracles spontaneously arise. Translating universal spiritual wisdom into modern language, Caroline illuminates the journey to empowering both psyche and soul." —Joan Borysenko, Ph.D., author of Minding the Body, Mending the Mind and It's Not the End of the World

They usually have their own spirit guides, in the form of an eagle or bear, for instance, and when in session, enter into a trance state with the aid of drumming, chanting and invocations. A Shaman is often responsible for the wellbeing of his or her community and may undergo great personal sacrifices in order to fulfill the potentials of the shamanic gift, which can bring powers to heal or prophesy, to carry news from the dead and offer a glimpse of the spirits dwelling in other realms” (See the classic study by Mircea Eliade Shamanism) The dangers of the folk culture revivals are not mentioned. Creative Irish culture disappeared from the world scene once Ireland became independent and no longer had to oppose England. (What is the last book by a living Irish writer that you have read?) Likewise, there are real dangers of an inward-looking Russian nationalism with elements of Russian folk lore, Russian Orthodox Christianity, and Italian Fascism coming to the fore and cutting off Russia again from the currents of world thought. As Gilchrist states, the structure of Russian cosmology is “reflected in the fundamental duality in the Russian model of the world. Different pairs, known as ‘binary oppositions’ have been distinguished as a key component of Russian myth, among them ‘life and death’, ‘wild and tamed’, and ‘visible and invisible’. The primary polarity is described as svoi and chuzhoi, meaning the familiar and the strange, oneself and the other person, or the known and the foreign.” Cutting across these three ‘binary opposites’ is a three-storey ‘world tree’ with its roots in the underworld, its trunk in the middle world of humans , and its branches in the sky. Although each level is

separate, there can be interaction among the three levels with some beings able to move from one level to the next as some can move from the binary oppositions, life and death, wild and tamed, visible and invisible. It is often those living at the edge between the oppositions who can most often interact, such as the bear and the bird with humans. The wild and the tamed are important structures for Russian folklore and the distinction between the two have to be made by humans. Since many people lived near forests and lakes, where does the tame end and the wild begin? Rural Russian homes often have a wooden fence around their homes, not so much for protection as to mark the distinction between the tamed order of the house and the wild forest. Many folk tales (often called wonder tales) take place in the forest where there is interaction between humans, animals (who may also be humans), and nature spirits. As Gilchrist notes “The Russian repertoire of tales does live on partly through the oral tradition, but it is fair to say that much of it was fixed at the time when nineteenth century folklorists in the field gathered huge collections and wrote them down for posterity.” She does not follow the school of C.G. Jung to look at what psychological needs folk tales meet or what tales may tell us of the contents of the subconscious, but she looks at their structure and the way that they are used in Russian society today. At the end Cherry Gilchrist sums up the aim of her book: I have endeavored to show that the Russian tradition is not the quaint stuff of bygone custom, but rather a living tradition, speaking of the poignant yearnings of the Russian soul, and springing from a uniquely beautiful landscape. To be Russian is to inherit this magical world, to experience its enchantment and its deep connections with the elements and forces of nature.” She is a good guide in this enchanted forest.
