Terri Sindelar Headquarters, Washington, D.C. January 17, 1991 (Phone: 202/453-8400) RELEASE: 92-11 ADMINISTRATOR MEETS WITH RESEARCH RECIPIENTS NASA Administrator Richard H. Truly met today with representatives from seven Historical Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), the latest recipients of NASA's Research Center grants. The Research Center awards are the latest innovative approach to meeting some of NASA's present and future research and workforce needs. This initiative allows NASA to tap into scientific resources found among under-represented minority students and faculty at qualifying universities. The seven university representatives met with Truly at a special luncheon held at NASA Headquarters, Washington, D.C. ù Dr. Kofi B. Bota Vice President for Research and Sponsored Programs Clark Atlanta University, Atlanta Ga. ù Dr. Henry Ponder President, Fisk University, Nashville, Tenn. ù Dr. Frederick S. Humphries President, Florida A&M University, Tallahassee ù Dr. William R. Harvey

President, Hampton University, Hampton, Va. ù Dr. O. Jackson Cole Associate Vice President for Research Howard University, Washington, D.C. ù Dr. Edward B. Fort Chancellor, North Carolina A&T State University, Greensboro - more -2ù Dr. Benjamin F. Payton President, Tuskegee University, Tuskegee, Ala. Each of the seven universities were awarded approximately one-half million dollars for the first year.
