DISCOVER THE NEW DIRECTION OF HOPE MEET THE 2008-2009 HOPE STUDENT GOVERNMENT
HOPE CHARTER SCHOOL
PRESIDENT: Eshanna Alexander Eshanna has been a student at HOPE for the past two years. She decided to run to run for President of the Student Council because she wanted to put her abilities into achieving positive change rather than letting negative feelings and actions take over. “Responsibilities to me means taking charge and being able to share with my peers on ideas that would benefit the HOPE family.” As President, she hopes to change the perspective of school to our students. HOPE should not be just a learning institution, but a place to have fun as well. She feels that she has grown a lot over the past two years as a result of being surrounded by teachers and staff who take the time to help students through difficult times.
VICE PRESIDENT: Kahyan Clark Kahyan has been a student at HOPE all four years. Kahyan has been extremely excited about all the new changes at HOPE this year and sees his role as an advocate for continuing to help move HOPE in a new direction. “My goal as vice-president is to maintain the current changes, and create new changes for those who believe they have lost their old chances, and be a voice of the students.”

HOPE HIGHLIGHTS HOPE Haunted School
CHANNEL ONE at HOPE
POWERSCHOOL PARENT
On October 31st, HOPE Charter School was haunted! Several elective teachers, along with their students transformed part of HOPE into a haunted school and gave tours to community children.
On October 28th, HOPE students found televisions in all classrooms courtesy of Channel One. Each morning students now watch Channel 1 News, a broadcast developed specifically for high school students.
In recent weeks, HOPE parents have been going online to check their stu‐ dents’ academic progress. Parents can receive a username and password so that they can access their student’s current grades, attendance and other information. Parents can also sign up to receive weekly progress reports sent home automatically via email.
Over 100 visitors came face to face with a variety of ghouls and monsters and were treated to a bag of goodies. It was great to see the so many students working along side their teachers to show the community what HOPE is really about! Hopefully this will become the first of many community events.
In addition, the televisions are used to broadcast scrolling bulletins about upcoming events, pictures, and other information. Sometime soon, HOPE students will begin broadcasting a morning news show.
A demonstration of the parent com‐ ponent of PowerSchool will be given during Parent Teacher Conferences and the Partners in HOPE meeting on Nov. 18th. Parents will also receive their usename and password at this time.
