Foreword

“The Language Menu” is an educational project from Learnwell Oy which provides teachers and students across the world FREE resources and ready-made exercises to be used in classes, along with the much needed tools to create original and personalized materials. Teachers seeking to use web-based activities in their classroom and students who seek material for independent study will find a common space on The Language Menu website. At the moment we offer 34 languages, which in the next few months will be increased to over 50. This will enable you to make bilingual material in more than 2244 language combinations. Our collection of online tools, currently numbering over 17 , is also expanding over the following months. The Language Menu has already been contacted by the Pools EU language project in Denmark for possible cooperation in EU-project in 2007. We already have funding support from: • Finland-Denmark cultural fund • Finland-Norway cultural fund • Swedish cultural fund The Language Menu is a free site to all to make language education easier, more accessible and more fun. The ultimate goal of project is to provide teachers from all over the world with free tools to create teaching material in an easier, more accessible and more fun way. The Language Menu in collaboration with Inforteach Great Britain offers support and information on available courses for the Comenius program.

Description:

The Language Menu project has now 17 online tools: Bingo, Board game, Categories, Crossword puzzle, Fill-in the blank, Flashcard, Framework, Label the pictures, Lines, Matching exercise, Multiple choice, Missing words, Split words, Scrambled sentences, True or false, Word spiral, Wordsearch. Teachers can complement their teaching with ready-to-print materials, custom-make vocabulary or grammar worksheets in 35 languages with or without pictures or mixing and match these language options when making bilingual material ( 2380 language combinations). The languages available at the moment are: Arabic, Bahasa, Bulgarian, Cantonese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch , English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Icelandic, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Macedonian, Mandarin, Norwegian, Pinyin, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Spanish, Swedish, Tagalong, Turkish and Vietnamese. There are over 35 vocabulary categories you can choose from: Adjectives-feelings, Animals, Appliances, Body parts, Buildings and places, Clothes and accessories, Colours, Countries, Days of the week, Flags, Food, drinks, herbs and spices, Fruits, berries and nuts, In the bathroom, In the house, In the kitchen, In the office, Medical and health, Music, Nature, Numbers, Opposites, Ordinals, Outside, People, Prepositions, Professions, Sports, Sports equipments, The months, Tools, Toys, Transport, Vegetables and mushrooms, Verbs. The Material Bank contains ready-to-print materials, exercises on vocabulary and grammar, dialogs and more.

Current activities:

Currently new vocabulary lists, more pictures and materials are being added to the database.

Objectives in 2007:

Albanian, Bosnian, Catalan, Farsi, Indonesian, Korean, Latin, Latvian, Lithuanian, Maori, Montenegrin, Pashto, Slovak, Slovene, Somali, Swahili, Thai, Ukrainian, Urdu and Uzbek will be added. We hope teachers seeking to use web-based activities in their classroom and students who seek material for independent study will find a common space on The Language Menu website.
