for life team grows z

The Campbell Rotary Relay for Life team will be helping to conquer cancer in the annual local walkathon July 11 and 12.. Our team grew in the first week from two to five. About 10 more volunteers would be great! More updates and chances to join at each meeting.

Rotarians @ Work Day--Worldwide!

Speakers Highlight Programs for Women Carla Collins and Esther PeralezDieckman of the Santa Clara County Office of Womens’ Policy, were invited by member, Bettina Kohlbrenner to address the club on programs to help break the cycle of poverty, abuse and incarceration. The information was well presented and many of the facts were real eye-openers. For example, 78% of female inmates are mothers. This greatly impacts families.



Coming Events

As Rotarians around the world gathered in their local communities to paint schools, pick up litter along highways, plant trees, etc., a dozen generous volunteers from Campbell Rotary spent their Saturday at the City of Campbell’s Volunteer garden. The crew, organized and headed by Community Service Chair, Neil Jacobson, met at 9:00 AM an began weeding the recently neglected garden. They pruned desirable plants, removed undesirable (or unrecognizable) species and turned over soil to make it ready for Spring planting. With much of the gardening done, the volunteers (see photos on page 2) switched tasks and began painting the 75 feet of new picket fence partitions. Setting the fence posts was expertly handled by Fred Meyer, who brought May 11: Dinner Service @ EHC

his own surveying equipment to the delight of the City workers. Every one of the 30 or so fence posts are not only straight up and down, the tops are all level from one post to the next to the next. In addition to Neil and Fred, members Kit Whitney, Bob Yager, Marc Wagner, Carl Middione, Rick Davis, Janine Payton, Ravi Chari, Regina Reynolds and John Shannon rounded out the crew.

The City’s work foreman and head of volunteers were both exceedingly happy with the work of our club. The City also, graciously, provided our crews with a great lunch of sandwiches, drinks and cookies. We may want to make this a quarterly event.


