Nelson Central School We e kl y N e ws l e tt e r
Nga mihi nui ki a koutou katoa te whanau whanui o te Kura Tuatahi o Whakatu – Greetings to friends and family of Nelson Central School. Cycle s, scoote rs etc Children are welcome to place their bicycles, scooters and other wheeled forms of transport in the bike cage. The cage is locked while school is in session and opened again at about 3 pm. The cage is in full view of classrooms every day but for added security we recommend children use a chain and lock to secure their belongings. Please help your child to remember to pick up their wheels after school. Lucky Books The Lucky Books Programme is a feature of our school. However, there may be times when you want to decline a request from your child that you should make a purchase. Children are very good at putting pressure on parents for items they want. Parents have an obligation to their children and to themselves to consider the ‘bigger picture’ and there may be times when buying does not suit. My recommendation is that parents should find their own way of saying, “ No, I won’t buy that because …” Children won’t always accept the answer but there are times when “ No” has to be the answer! Yes, there will be all sorts of emotional blackmail tricks performed by children but remember, you are the adult, you are the parent, you have the responsibility for the long term sustainability of the family and you have the right to make that decision. Nelson Symphony O rchestra On Saturday, May 16th the Nelson Symphony Orchestra will be performing 'The Carnival of the Animals' and 'T ubby the T uba' with the help of Peta Spooner and her dancers. There are four performances throughout the day. The cost is $10 a person or $36 for a family of four. Routine Infe ction Control Advice for Se asonal Influenz a 1. Wash your hands with soap under warm running water. Alcohol-based hand gel can also be used if soap and water are not readily available. It’s a good idea to keep some with you in your pocket or purse when you travel. 2. Practice proper cough and sneeze etiquette. Cover your mouth and/or nose with a clean tissue or sneeze into your elbow to reduce the spread of germs. Remember to dispose of the tissue and wash your hands afterwards. 3. Try to avoid close contact with sick people. 4. Monitor your health. 5. Contact your GP if you have prolonged or severe symptoms Te rm Eve nts 4-10 May – International Compost Week 6 May - Prospective Parents Evening 7 pm in the school library 11 May – Parent Information Evening – Lynne Scott guest speaker 7 0 N i l e S t r e et, N el s o n Principal:
