RANCHO CUCAMONGA PT CRUISER CRUISIN’ CLUB August 2009 NEWSLETTER - ISSUE # 33 INLAND EMPIRE - SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CRUISIN’ CLUB PICNIC On this day the membership came together and spent the day at the park. During the course of the year Rancho Cruisin’ Club makes a courtesy call to remind the membership about the upcoming event or cruise and sometimes well actually most of the time we do not know which members will show up. This is okay because the membership knows that they can pick and choose from the clubs’ cruise event schedule. I began preparing for the picnic early on in the year by reserving the park site with Rancho Cucamonga City on April 1 2009 and along with the site was included a baseball diamond for us to use. Having cruises going on throughout the year makes the months seem like weeks going by. I have to keep tabs on the calendar and dates for our next cruise or event because time sure does fly when you least expect it. But on this day even though the weather man said it would be pretty hot most of the day, we manage to stay cool because of the location we had. This park has two shelters and with each shelter comes three oversize picnic cement tables which we used to the max., and also 2 more tables next to the shelter which we covered with two EZ-Ups for shade. A stand alone barbeque pit is located next to each individual table at this park which makes it very easy to prepare the food. I arrived at about 9:30 am and the membership began dropping in about 10 am which was the time that was set for the event. CONT. ->

We had the area reserved from 10 am to 2 pm but no one else had made a reservation for this park area so we were in no rush to leave. Ken Brownell, Tommy Dorsey, Phil Page, Alicia Mendoza, Sharon Breaux, Ray Oviatt and several others were busy at the bbq pits grilling hamburgers, hot dogs, steaks, turkey legs and chicken. Along with that everyone brought something as a side order. J. J. Johnson made his famous “RCPTCCC” oatmeal cookies and passed them out to everyone. These cookies are in a class by themselves they are delicious. There were two games we brought along for the event. A bean bag toss and a game called golf where the player tosses two balls that are attached to each other by a string. The string if thrown accurately wraps around a three tier stand and the player wins if he gets the most points. So needless to say we did have 5 winners and they all received a prize. The prizes that were won were brought for the games by several of the club members. As the day at the park came to a close some of the club members talked about another picnic. This is something good to hear because it gives us all a great satisfied feeling of accomplishment and the energy to make arrangements for another picnic. AWESOME!

BRONCO BILLY The film revolves around "Bronco Billy's Wild West Show", a run-down traveling circus, the star of which is Bronco Billy McCoy (Clint Eastwood), the "fastest gun in the West." For the show's finale, a blindfolded Bronco Billy shoots balloons around a female assistant on a revolving wooden disk, and for the last balloon, he throws a knife. However, the assistant's leg is nicked, so she quits. The show is not making any money, and nobody has been paid for months. The show moves on to a new town and Bronco Billy goes to city hall to get a permit. While there, he bumps into Antoinette Lilly (Sondra Locke) and John Arlington (Geoffrey Lewis), who are there to be married. Antoinette despises her future husband, but has to marry before she is thirty in order to inherit a large fortune. Afterwards, their car breaks down at the motel opposite the Wild West Show. The next morning, Arlington steals all her money and their repaired car. She is left to fend for herself. Bronco Billy eventually talks Antoinette into becoming his new assistant, "Miss Lilly", though she only agrees to do one show. The show of her first performance is unusually successful, although Miss Lilly irritates Billy by not sticking to the script. Leaving the show, Antoinette discovers that Arlington has been arrested for her murder (framed by Antoinette's stepmother and her scheming lawyer friend, who stand to gain her inheritance). Seizing the chance to get even with Arlington, Antoinette rejoins the Wild West Show. She discovers that none of the performers are real cowboys: they are mostly exconvicts or alcoholics (or both). Bronco Billy was a shoe salesman who shot his wife for sleeping with his best friend. Nevertheless, Miss Lilly begins to warm to the troupe. Two of the show's performers announce that they are going to have a baby. The crew goes to a bar to celebrate. One of them gets himself arrested by police who discover that he is a deserter from the army. Bronco Billy uses the show's meager savings to bribe the sheriff into letting the man go, swallowing his pride and enduring the sheriff's verbal humiliations for his friend's sake. Then the circus tent burns down. Everyone blames Miss Lilly for their bad luck, but Bronco Billy defends her and proposes that they rob a train. They try to do this in the standard Western way (riding alongside and jumping on), but a modern train proves to be resistant to such an approach and they give up. Next, the troupe travels to a mental institution at which they have previously performed pro bono. The head of the institution, who is obsessed with the Wild West, agrees to provide them with accommodation and to supply a new tent, and the inmates sew one out of American flags. Miss Lilly and Bronco Billy spend the night together. By chance, one of the inmates turns out to be Arlington (he had been paid by the crooked lawyer to confess to being mentally disturbed when he "murdered" Antoinette). When he sees her, he raises a fuss and gets himself released. Bronco Billy and the show depart without Miss Lilly. Antoinette returns to a luxurious lifestyle, but she is bored and misses Billy, who drowns his loneliness with alcohol. The two reunite when Miss Lilly returns to the circus. Saturday July 04 2009 Annual 4th of July Country Village Parade Cruise

Sunday July 12 2009 March Field Air Museum Cruise

For this parade we decorated our PT Cruisers with patriotic streamers and joined other car clubs as well as many happy and cheering Independence Day revelers celebrating the Fourth of July celebration holiday. This parade was something that was thought of several years ago by the residents at this Country Village complex. The parade entries follow the route in and around the entire complex. It takes about 30 to 40 minutes to complete the parade course. The excitement grew as the parade began with many diverse entries of an assortment of groups who signed up to be in this parade. I was amazed at how many people turned out for this small township parade, and all were very sociable. I have never been to a parade such as this one and have so many people smile, wave, salute, and say hello to the participants in any parade I have been to. From the very beginning as we arrived we noticed that there were many people from all age groups involved with the festivities. When our cruisin’ club signs up to be in a parade we kind of have the feeling about the parade whether we will enjoy or find it unsatisfactory. This annual parade these folks put out is something of a great celebration where everyone gets involved. After the parade we parked our Cruisers by the restaurant and stayed and talked for some time. The management wanted our club to have a full blown out car show but I found it too late in time to be able to get everything organized to have a first-rate car show. Also, after the parade finished we headed out to the grassy area of the town complex which is like a large park like setting and visited many of the vendors and enjoyed the festivities. At one site there was a group of people cooking on a very large grill and passing out as many hot dogs and water or a drink that anyone wanted for free. We did stay about 3 hours and then left for home which I didn’t have to cruise to far because of the close proximity to my home. Thank you for those that came out and joined us on this cruise.

We have been to this location before in the past and each time including this one visit has been great, other than the hot weather this is a place to cruise to and enjoy with many friends who love aircrafts. We met at Krispy Kremes for this cruise, and even though we all got there on time, I just knew that the traffic was going to be code congested on the 10 freeway. Well we arrived there safe and sound and parked all of the cruisers together. We always park together but sometimes it’s easier for anyone who is Handicapped to park closest to the front entranced. Even so, the main entrance is kind of far away and we had no choice but to walk. The March Air Base Museum is located off of Van Buren and across the 215 freeway from the Riverside National Cemetery. The day was exceptionally hot and upon entering the building we made it a point to stay a little while indoors and explore the building with all of its historical mementos and traditional artifacts. March Air Museum is well equipped to handle or store many airplanes with their history from wars or conflicts this country has been involved in. A large percentage of our club members are new to being in a car club so here at Rancho Cruisin’ Club we try to give everyone a little variety and encourage the membership to come fly with us to any one of the cruises during the year and same goes for next year and the year after that and the gratification continues as long as we strive to be creative on whatever we do. As always any club would be happy having a lot of cruisers show up for an event or a scheduled cruise, but here not only are we pleased regarding that, we also have a chance to meet up with different members each time. The schedule for next year 2010 is being formed and there are many places to cruise and not just the same ones that we have gone to this year. The particulars on the cruise places, events, occasions and location, time, and what to bring along for the day will be on the clubs’ web site along with courtesy reminders before each and every cruise that we will go on. RCPTCCC membership decides on what cruises they want to go to, and it does appear that nearly everyone of the club members who are going are showing up each and every time we have a cruise, which is good! Because it makes the sensation of having a car club and belonging to this car club all worth the endeavor we all put forth every month. Until then take care and be safe.
