HISTORY OF THE CLUB (SINCE YEAR 2004 — PRESENT)

Leo Club of SMK Jalan Arang, Kuching, which is one

of the Leo Clubs under District 308-A2, Region 1, Zone 2, was officially formed on the 16th of July 2004 under the sponsoring Lions Club - Lions Club of Kuching Ixora. The club runs smoothly with the endless support from the sponsoring club especially the Leo Advisors and continuous guidance and advice from the Faculty Advisors. With the hard work of the chartered Board of Directors the club has been awarded since the charter year 2004 with Merit Club Awards from Past District Governor Tan Sor Har in Santubong, Kuching. During the second year of enstablishment, the leadership of our Past President Leo Chua Soon Ho leaded us to the Outstanding Club Awards. Also, the club secretary of the Fiscal Year, Past President Leo Kelvin Chong was given an award by Past District Governor John Ho at Leo Forum, Kota Kinabalu. In the following Fiscal Year, our club soars even higher under the leading of our Past President Leo Kelvin Chong who has leaded us to receive the Excellent club Awards from Past District Governor Mary

Law during the Leo Forum held in Miri. Under the presidential year of our Immediate Past President Leo Chai Chiau Hung, her respective Board of Directors has put in effort to keep the ball rolling. Our IPP managed to guide the club to receive the Excellent Club Awards from Immediate Past District Governor Dr George A. Kunjan during the Leo Forum held last year. Now, our club is actively running under the leading of President Lee Zi Sing. Various activities and projects has been carried out with her respective Board of Directors, guided by our Faculty Advisor Madam Dora Teo and Leo Advisor Club

LEO CLUB OF SMK JALAN ARANG

The club has come to the fifth year of establishment since the year 2004. The volunteerism and Leoism within the Leos in this leading world proves an obvious improvement and effort done for the past 4 years. As a tradition, the Organizing Chairperson’s post of the Induction cum anniversary Dinner has been taken by our President Lee Zi Sing when she was elected to the presidential office. The dinner was held at Crown Imperial Hall on the 28th of June 2008. The main reason to organize this project was to induct

28/6 FIVE YEARS OF LEOISM AMONG THE ARANG LEOS all the new members. At the same time to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the club. Regarding the induction ceremony, we had invited District Chairperson of Leo Clubs (Sarawak) Lion Chong Nam Fah to do the induction of new members. The project was carried out smoothly and it was a success. Thanks to DC Leo, Faculty Advisor, Leo Advisor, school principle and all the committee members.

18/10 LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME A Leadership Development Programme was held under arrangement of the OC Leo Pauline Wong who is also a newly-inducted Leo. It is indeed our honor to invite our DC Activities and Bulletin, Lion Sheila and Lion Cecil to be the speaker for the whole programme. There were 45 Leos attended and a Lion involved.

We Care, We Serve.

This programme is mainly organized for the newly-inducted Leos so that they can get to know more about Leoism, Leadership, Experience and Opportunity.

6/7 CHESIRE HOME FOOD SALE This is an annual project organized by our club since FY 2007/2008. In this Fiscal Year, the Organizing Chairperson, Leo Bong Sze Joo managed to get a team and set up a stall during the annual Chesire Home Food Sale and managed to raise RM 489 by seling Nasi Lemak and Milk Tea. The project was a success.

6/7 REGION 1 JOINT INSTALLATION The installation was held in the month of July involving all the Leo Clubs in Region 1. 20 Leos including the board of directors were present . All the Board of Directors had been officially installed to the office.

29/7 CAR WASH PROJECT It was held on a Saturday where teachers are going to school to attend their meeting. We took this opportunity to carry out car wash project to raise fund. With the teamwork of the Leos, we managed to raised more than RM100.

28/7 JAPANESE YE STUDENTS VISIT TO SCHOOL 13 Japanese Youth Exchanged students visited to SMK Jalan Arang and they joined the English lesson with one of the Form 5 classes.

6/12 LEO SERVICE DAY Leos from SMK Jalan Arang visited the Chesire Home in Kuching during the Leo Service Day. Besides, we also do cleaning on that day.

Thanks for this opportunity to be part of this bulletin. Firstly, congratulations to Leo Club of SMK Jalan Arang on another year well planned and equally well executed. Greetings! It’s my honor to be given an opportunity to leave a message in this bulletin. I’m happy to see that Leos are participating actively in the activities carried out. This year, the OC and CO-OC has been working together to make projects more successful. Also, we can see the OC-s are able to call their own brief sub-committee meeting. Congratulations for the job well done and keep it up! ROARS.
