Leo Club of SMK Jalan Arang Fiscal year 2008/2009

Beach Clean-Up Project It was held on the 29th of March. 40 Leos from SMK Jalan Arang together with Club faculty advisor, Madam Dora Teo and Lion President of Lions Club of Kuching Ixora, Lion Patrick Goh were involved in the activity which was carried out at Pasir Pandak, Santubong, Kuching. The cleaning up had taken about 3 hours. Through this project we hope to improve the environment Kampung Pasir Pandak. The project was a success as leos were putting in efforts.

Visit to Pitcher Plant Garden The visit was held on the 11th of April 2009 at Pitcher Plant Garden, 10th Mile Jalan Penrissen. 2 faculty advisors of the club and 37 Leos joined this project. Through this visit, leos get to know various types of pitcher plant and wild orchids. The officers there led us throughout the visit. Besides, we also volunteered to do some work after visiting.

Sports Day Sales Sports day sales was carried out again in this fiscal year for 2 days ( 19-20 March 2009) at Padang Jublee. This year, the organizing committee had successfully raised RM 348.50 from this fund-raising project by selling drinks.

Leos were preparing drinks for sales.

Christmas Gathering In conjunction of Christmas and year-end countdown, we leos are gathered to celebrate on the 29th Dec 2008 at OC Leo Tiong Ying Ying’s residence.

Inter-Club Telematch It was a school-based telematch which was held on the 19th March 2009, in the school. The club involved were Kelab SPBT (Skim Pinjaman Buku Teks), History Club and Dharma Club.

Oscar Night Leos performed a drama under Lions Club of Kuching Ixora during the Region 1 Oscar Night which was held on the 20th September 2008 at Sarawak Tourism Complex. It was a comedy drama about a birthday party which involved ‘’Rojak’’ language. Leo Bong Sze Joo, Leo Lee Zi Sing, Leo Tiong Ying Ying and Leo Vivien Then. Care project We went to the Hung Nam Siang Tng old folks home located at Jalan Sekama, Kuching on the 21st Feb 2009.

Bon Appetite! Bon Appetite! is a fundraising project by selling food in the school. This year, we had 2 sessions of Bon Appetite! Session I was held 3 times (3 Fridays) in the month of September 2008 during recess time. Session II was carried out during the school registration day on the 2nd Jan 2009. By combining the two sessions, we raised about RM 450.

Book Drive The organizing committee has successfully collected 266 story books and almost every leos was involved in the contribution of story books. On the 13 March 2009, we sent the books to SJK Chung Hua Sungai Jernam.

Lions Nursing Home Food Sale On the 9th November 2008, our club was involved in the Lions Nursing Home Food Fair and we were selling sushi, Burgers, Lui Cha and rambutans. We raised a few hundred for that morning and was donated to Lions Nursing Home.

Gardening Project In our school, we have a Leo garden and we have this project on-going for almost 4 years. Now, gardening sessions are held at least twice per month. During the holiday and the beginning of the year 2009, gardening sessions were not as many as expected due to the bad whether.
