Geothermal energy is energy that uses heat from underground. This heat finds its way to the ground by hot springs and geysers.
1. The heat rises from underground. 2. It boils water which makes steam 3. The steam then turns the turbine and the turbine turns the generator. 4. Electricity is generated, the water is cooled and the cold water is pumped back underground.
Advantages and Disadvantages. • Geothermal energy does not pollute the air. • It is a renewable energy source, so long as we don’t pump too much cold water back underground. • No fuel is needed. • Geothermal energy is free. • The Power stations do not take up much room. • It might be hard to find a suitable place for a power station. • A geothermal power station can run out of steam.
