Media Law

Defamation

How it imposes constraints on media production? Talking about other people or companies in a bad way to make the public to think less of them is not allowed any false statements of them or criticism included.

Contempt of Court

A production must not involve anything concerning present legal procedures.

Privacy and Confidence

If a source does not want you to share something to do with them on the programme you have respect and not but it up there. You need to respect there privacy and let them to be confident in your show.

Copyright

Any music, video footage, images used which is not created by you needs to get permission to be used it you want it in your programme.

How it could affect your product negatively If you talk down negatively of someone in your programme that person/company can sue you. If I use wrong statements and data about the gospel industry and public and see that it is inaccurate it, this will lead to the public having a negative perception of gospel. Broadcasting any current legal procedures that have not been made public could put my production in serious problem as it can harm and offend people and indivuals and legal action can even be taken out. If I did this with gospel artists it would give them a bad name and if there are opposed to be Christian their will get criticism and bad press. If their don’t want to put up their personal issues on the programme you may need to reconsider if the show is worth broadcasting and how it may not serve the public’s needs. If a gospel artist has a good interesting personal life to publish to the general public it will allow me to lose a good story if I am meant to respect their personal space. And if I do expose their personal life, their may take legal action and is very unlikely to work with them in future projects. As my topic is based on gospel if I am not allowed to show any of the clothing lines products or play any of the artist’s music, my production could be in

How it could affect your product positively Not breaking the law will make your programme reliable and truthful to the public as there is no unfairness being portrayed in the programme. People will see a positive in the gospel industry and may want to explore in their own interest. If do broadcast any legal procedures I would inform the public and serve the public’s interest. Gospel artists would appreciate how you presented and portrayed them in your production and would be willing to help them in future, as it takes bad press from them and gives them good media coverage. People are able to put trust in the show if you respect their privacy this will meet the regulations of OFCOM. If I intrude on their personal affairs this will give me a better story to ride on within the gospel industry. This will appeal to the general public more as well as my target audience. For example about the sources past life before their got into going what ever they wanted to do.

Getting permission from sources to use their gospel music or products within the production can allow the production to be more communicative
