Description of Text The text is about the history of gospel music and where it came from. It covers the who the British colonies most of the West African countries and how during missionaries they where taught Christianity. It shows how the slaves used Christianity to create gospel music. So gospel genre originates from West Africa where the slaves carried it with them to America. Before gospel the genre was more or less called spiritual genre. There also used spiritual codes to send messages to each other for example ‘sweet chariot’. It was also used for the backdrop for political movement (Marther Luther the King times). It shows its influence on other genre music such as blues. It also talks about the gospel music of today and how it has become more mainstream and popular. Misconception is also discussed with how people thought that gospel music was only sang by Christians and how only black people do gospel.
Potential Audience for Text The potential audience would be people with an interest in gospel music for a first. People who listen to the genre and maybe listen to blues genre. People who love music in general may also watch. People who like learning new interesting things would like to watch it. People you like history and want to know about the history of gospel would also watch it. As well all races black people would watch as they may know more and associate more with gospel music due to its history and up bringing.
Key Influences on your Idea - Content and Form When I plan on doing my documentary my introduction could be similar in regarding to context when by introducing what gospel music is and including its history of gospel music and where it came from briefly, then follow on by saying what my documentary is about that it is about gospel industry of today in the UK and how it is contributing to the media of today.
