Mariachi Tesoro performs most weekends throughout the year to raise money and donates performances to senior homes or assisted living facilities, local churches or in support of school fundraisers. All the musicians in Tesoro are also apprentices of Dr. Alfredo Valenzuela, who received an honorary doctorate in music education from the University of Arizona in 2008, nominated by Dr. Ronald Marx on the petition of the Department of Language, Reading & Culture (Dr. Moll). The Faculty Senate was unanimous in their recommendation to President Shelton. The Mariachi Tesoro Annual Fundraiser showcases the local talent of several mariachi groups - adult and youth groups, including Redención and Pueblo High School's award winning Mariachi Aztlán, Davis Bilingual's Los Aguilitas and local youth group Mariachi Brillante. Each group plays for a half hour and dancing is recommended. :) Mariachi Tesoro is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization.
