Lindsey O. Graham In 1994, he became the first Republican to represent South Carolina’s Third Congressional District in Washington since 1877. During his four terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, Graham was known as a leader who never abandoned his independence or strayed from the conservative reform agenda. A native South Carolinian, Graham grew up in Central, graduated from D.W. Daniel High School, and earned his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of South Carolina in Columbia. He served his nation in the United States Air Force and South Carolina Air Guard. An Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm veteran who served as Staff Judge Advocate at McEntire Air National Guard Base, he continues to serve as a Colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserves, making Graham the only active reservist serving in the U.S. Senate. In 1988, Graham established a private law practice and in 1992 was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives.
