Dear Motherland I am a 21st century youth, and the youth of this century is caught in ideas like utilitarianism, globalism and cosmopolitan society wherein people consider themselves as global beings or world citizens. Wherein they argue that ideas like patriotism or love for one's motherland are obsolete and was a habit of olden times. In all this let me remind them, that love for our motherland is the product of history. It is rooted in our soil, nurtured and nourished in our culture, languages and traditions, fostered and sharpened by our genius and quest for social justice, reinforced by culture and history. Let me admonish them that only those nations have created remarkable histories whose people have cherished the spirit of love for their motherland in their chests. Dear mother, I am a student and my love for you provides me the wisdom, spirit and determination to work for you, to make you feel proud and to keep your prestige up. I am proud to be an Indian because 1500 years ago, one Indian taught the world how to count. One Indian invented wireless communication, one great Indian started revolutionary movement for India's independence with non violence, and again I am proud to be an Indian because my motherland has given birth to Rabindranath Tagore who held her motherland's head high. In his legendary song 'Amer Dasher Mati' he has expressed his love for her motherland. The song remains a guiding force for the young Indians to imbibe the love for one's motherland in letter and spirit. Mark Twain has rightly

described you as"the cradle of human race, the birthplace of human speech, the mother of history, the grandmother of legend, and the great grandmother of tradition. Our most valuable and most instructive materials in the history of man are treasured up in India only." But i am equally saddened by the present prevailing situation. Oh my mother! I am grieved to see some of your international rankings. You ranked 130 in Human development index report 2018 which was published by United Nation development programme. Again you ranked 133 in World Happiness Index report 2018 and also you ranked 138 in Global Peace Index report 2018 which is absolutely not good for you and all of us. Pardon me, pardon us for your poor performance in international rankings. I promise by now I will make concerted efforts to make your performance more better than the reports of 2018. Oh! My mother, my eyes get flooded with tears when I realise that over 20 crore Indians slept hungry, 10 million people die every year of chronic hunger and hunger related diseases and 17 million people remained unemployed. I regret to put before you all this. But by now I am going to correct my mistakes. From today I will endeavor to bring honor and glory with my sincere efforts. I promise that I will work for abrogation of poverty, abolition of pernicious outdated customs. I will work for promotion of gender equality and communal harmony. I promise we will stand together as one nation and build up what we lost as charity begins at home. Accept my warm regards. Jai Hind Your loving son
