Bali Governor Pastika Scolds Regents for Failing to Respect Democratic Legislative Process in Formulatin g New Zoning Law. Bali's governor Made Mangku Pastika is becoming increasingly irritated by the island's regents and mayors who continue trying to score political points by criticizing him on a variety of topics ranging from the management of the Bali Development Bank to the new zoning rules (RTRW) for the island. The governor's displeasure overflowed recently when he questioned these officials sudden and very vocal rejection of the RTRW while, during the public deliberation of the zoning law, thedr same people took the "safe" option of remaining silent and staying out of the debate.
Quoted in Radar Bali, the governor said now is not the time to be putting forward their objections as the RTRW has already been ratified as a provincial law by Bali's House of Representatives. Giving voice to his irritation, Pastika said: "They should have voiced their rejection and made noise during the long deliberation process. Come on - now they raise a raucous, but before they stayed silent. We're tired after finishing the deliberation process, they should have spoken up then. The process is finished now." The governor reminded how the new zoning rules had been under a review process that lasted almost an entire year before finally being ratified by the Bali House of Representatives. He called on the regents and mayors of Bali to recall the long consultative process, saying, "it's strange to only speak up now; it's too late.” To be continued to page 5

Scientists find fiddler crabs will exchange favours for sex SCIENTISTS have found that just like some people - fiddler crabs will exchange favours for sex. Male crabs will protect a female neighbour but do so partly in exchange for sex. Australian National University researchers Richard Milner, Michael Jennions and Patricia Blackwell in a study published in Biology Letters looked at how female crabs those without the large claw - go about protecting their territories, The Courier-Mail reports. They found sexual offerings lead to neighbourhood coalitions, where a male crab protected females from homeless males seeking territory. The males' giant claw is the largest weapon relative to body size in the animal kingdom. Females have two small feeding
claws. Prof Jennions said stroppy males had evolved with one huge claw which was used for luring females and fighting. "Apart from an effective weapon, it's a come hither signal when waved either towards or away from females," Prof Jennions said. They also placed the large claw across a burrow entrance if another crab approached. "They really are massive," he said. "On windy days we've actually seen crabs raise their claws and get blown over, there is such an area of resistance." Prof Jennions said the paper provided the first evidence of defence coalitions between males and females. Trading sex for material benefit is not unheard of in the animal world.
Female red-winged blackbirds will mate with an extra male so they can sneak into his territory and eat his food while female Adelie penguins exchange sex for stones for nests. Fiddler crab males protected their female neighbours in 95 per cent of instances where the intruder was male and only 15 per cent of instances where the intruder was female. "This suggests that males don't care who their neighbour is, as long as they are female," Prof Jennions said

Lightning strike sets family home alight
A GOLD Coast man filling in his lotto ticket was blown out of his chair when lightning struck his house, exploding windows and setting his home of 35 years alight. Roy Beverley, escaped serious injury when lightning struck his Ashmore home about 11pm last night, the Gold Coast Bulletin reports. The force of strike destroyed the front of the Winani Drive house, as it blew in the ceiling of the kitchen and loungeroom. And fire crews had to put out a small fire. Mr Beverley's son Carlos said the whole family was in shock. Both his mother Joan and sister Sacha were also in the house at the time. The family were treated on site by paramedics for grazes
from shattering glass before spending the night at a neighbour's place. Police officers described the scene as "quite extraordinary''. Neighbour Admira Dajic said he heard the family screaming after the explosion. "I was half asleep when I heard this big bang. I thought their house was on fire. I heard the owner scream for help,'' he said. "I screamed out and told them to be careful there was smashed glass everywhere.'' Melisa Hopwood who lives at the end of the street said she heard a 'blood-curdling scream'. "I was watching TV. Then there was this massive white light that lit up the whole street,'' said Ms Hopwood. The storm also damaged a number of other nearby houses, blowing power boxes. Jodi Chaffey, a mother of four said she was scared for the safety of children, after her powerbox exploded and the whole house shook. An Energex spokeswoman said about 24,000 homes, particularly in the Lockyer Valley and
Ipswich regions, were without power as the storms battered electricity networks. But despite the spectacular light display, the storms failed to deliver much in the way of rain to coastal areas. Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Rick Threlfall said the storms collapsed once they reached Brisbane's outskirts. "They were quite substantial out over the hills to the west of Brisbane, with some good rainfall and wind gusts of 75km/h,'' Mr Threlfall said. "But they really died away as soon as they hit the Brisbane City boundary and we didn't see much rain at all in the city centre.'' A new line of storms had formed off the coast this morning but were not expected to make landfall, Mr Threlfall said. "Conditions will remain pretty unstable for the next few days with showers around today and over the weekend. They will be pretty isolated, becoming more frequent on Sunday,'' he said. Temperatures are also expected to be cooler with tops in the mid-20s.

As soon as he realised the mistake, Goncalves rushed to the funeral to let his family know he was not dead. “The corpse was badly disfigured, but dressed in similar clothing,'' a police spokesman said, according to AP. “People are afraid to look for very long when they

Bali's Rabies Saga Continues Bali Responds as New Cases of Rabies Discovered on Island' North Shore. Confirmed cases of rabies now stretch to all four corners of Bali with rabid dogs now detected in two communities at Sambirenteg, Tejakula in the Buleleng regency, North Bali. Officials in Buleleng are responding by educating the local community on preventive steps to stop the further spread of the disease. Local authorities are also in the process of eliminating stray dogs on a village by village basis in combination with a program of vaccination for the local pet dog populations. Meanwhile, Bali's provincial government has pledged to make Bali "Rabies Free" by 2012, three years ahead of the earlier announced target of 2015. Jakarta Globe quotes Tjandra Yoga Aditama of the Indonesian Health Ministry as saying because of Bali's role as a tourism icon the island was being prioritized in the national fight against rabies, saying: "This is an
important battle given Bali's role as a world-class tourist destination and its strategic contribution to the national economy. If we are late acting on this issue, the disease could have a negative impact and spread to other areas." From an initial case one year ago isolated in Bali's southernmost regency of Badung, rabies cases have now been confirmed to have spread island wide with cases reported in Gianyar, Tabanan, Bangli, Karangasem and Buleleng. At least 15 human fatalities have been linked to the current outbreak. Rabies control units are now in operation in six regions of Bali offering anti-rabies vaccine for
those who are bitten by potentially rabid animals. Current estimates are that 26,705 dogs have been culled from a total dog population put at 500,000 animals. Kompas.com reports that Rp. 2.4 billion (US$240,000) is being allocated in 2010 to prevent the spread of rabies. A total of Rp. 8 billion (US$800,000) has been spent in 2009 in Bali in the fight against rabies. Officials in Bali insist that any shortage of vaccine is only momentary, tied to supply-chain issues and not a lack of funding to secure vaccine. Yo g a A d i t a m a i s recommending that Bali set up rabies centers in all of Bali's regencies and municipalities to help meet the 2012 target for elimination of the disease and quickly address any new cases discovered in the coming months. Nation-wide Indonesia reports confirmed cases of rabies in 24 of its 33 provinces, with the worst affected areas in North Sulawesi and South Sulawesi.

Zoo entry tickets will also have to be pre-purchased for the first few months after the pandas go on display from December 13.

Now!Bali Shows its Appreciation Bali Travel Magazine Now!Bali Host Party to Say 'Thanks' to the Island. Now! Bali - the monthly magazine for Bali visitors distributed through hotels in Bali, held an appreciation party in the seaside gardens of the Bali Segara Village Hotel on Friday, November 6, 2009. Launched in January 2009, by well known travel publisher Alistair Speirs, the magazine claims to be the most widely circulated publication of its kinds in hotels, resorts and villa rooms in Bali. Attended by hoteliers, retailers, restaurateurs and
leading tourism operators in Bali, dancer. the evening party featured Indonesian music and dance, a contemporary band and attractive door prizes. Speirs spoke to the gathering thanking advertisers for their support of his desire to create a magazine dedicated to "real" Bali highlighting the island's temples, dance, art, museum, and its countryside. In the months ahead, Speirs plans to improve the magazine's layout and, in response to popular demand, expand circulation. Shown on Balidiscovery.com is Alistair Speirs posing with a Balinese
Continued from page 1 Insisting that all elements of society were asked for input in formulating the RTRW, the governor counted off participation by the Hindu organizations, village leaders, academics, non-governmental organizations and various experts before being approved by Bali's House of Representatives. Obviously displeased with he behaviors of Bali's regents and mayors, Pastika admonished leaders who now want the agreed "no build" zones surrounding sacred sites modified to accommodate their specific requirements. To those
only now voicing their objection, the governor somewhat cynically suggests they confront all the factions of public society who helped formulate the rules. Pastika underlined the desire of his administration to end the hodgepodge of different approaches to provincial law in each of Bali's regencies in favor of a "one island management" system. The governor warned that Bali's would be ruined by planning based on an endless variety of individual narrow interests. The governor warned that plans by regents to file a formal letter of rejection
regarding the RTRW might represent a violation of the law in such a document's failure to accept and acknowledge the democratic legislative process. According to press reports, many of the island's regents are resisting the new zoning rule's attempt to introduce a uniform set of building rules across the entire island. Such rules would end Regent's current ability to grant exceptions to the rules. The new rules also impose criminal penalties on administrators caught facilitating exemptions in such areas as set-back rules from sea sides, river banks and sacred sites.

'Live means live': lip-sync laws loom Pop stars like Britney Spears may be forced to alert fans if they intend on miming throughout their shows under new laws. The US singer will perform 15 concerts in Australia, starting in Perth on Friday, followed by Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane before finishing in Adelaide on November 29. options, such as a disclaimer on a ticket which would warn consumers a performance is pre-recorded." The State Opposition says the Government has shown it is out of touch for focussing its attention on Britney Spears and not issues like health and transport. Opposition MP Anthony Roberts says the State Government needs to concentrate on the big issues. "This is what the joke is today that a Government is focusing on an issue that really doesn't affect the majority of people on a day to day basis," he said.

Futuristic TV, online ads 'know what you're watching’ SOMETIME today, footage of a US college football game played on sports broadcaster ESPN's website will trigger an ad directly related to what is happening on-screen. This futuristic new form of TV and online advertising is driven directly by what is happening on the screen in real time, not booked weeks in advance by a media buyer. The world-first technology driving the system was developed in Australia by a group of visionary sports fans. Emotional moments Demand Sport launches its Ad+Demand service with the ESPN ad. It will do so using the immense amount of statistical data that is gathered by sports around the globe to trigger ads during key moments of games and highlights. And Perth-based Duane Varan, who 18 months ago set up an interactive TV laboratory in the US funded by ESPN's parent company Disney, has provided the research that has supported Demand Sport's push to have ads linked to the emotional moments that are crucial to the popularity of sport. Demand Sport co-founder and chief executive, Luke Reinehr, told the model was a simple one - people have greater recall of advertising when it is closely tied to an emotionally fulfilling moment - and sports provide such moments on an almost minute-by-minute basis. The project could swiftly be extended to live TV and other genres ranging from entertainment to news. And the group has had preliminary discussions with a number of Australian media companies about applying the model locally. "The whole concept is synchronising brand messages with a special moment in a game," Mr Reinehr said.
"And our technology allows an advertiser to show different ads to different supporters at the same moment. "For example, a brewery may show an upbeat ad to supporters when their teams scores and a 'commiseration' ad to opposition supporters at the same time." Backed by stats The concept has been under development for the past three years, undergoing extensive trials in China before its official launch in the US this week. Advisers to the project include former International Olympic Commission broadcast rights director Michael Payne, Neal Pilson, former president of CBS Sports in the US, and John Feenie, former head of Walt Disney China affairs and consumer products. "There is an enormous amount of statistical information that is wrapped around these sports," Mr Reinehr said. "It might be goals or home runs, but the thing about sport is it's very emotional and those statistics are actually recording emotional times in sport. "We figured out if we could synchronise the metadata that surround sports and align it with a brand moment, it would be very positive." The privately held company will not disclose how much it has cost to bring the Ad+Demand project to the point of launch, other than to say "many millions". Mr Reinehr predicted the concept would potentially grow to replace pre-roll advertising that precedes many online video highlight products. "We are not selling advertising - we are providing the tools for publishers to sell advertising in a more meaningful way," he said. When the system is released for live TV, he said, stock
market reports could trigger ads that reflected the state of the market, while news programming could trigger ads related to news items. However, Mr Reinehr said the company wanted to pursue the biggest market first because of the scale of the project.

Prints confirm dinosaurs roamed south NZ Scientists have discovered the first evidence that dinosaurs roamed the South Island of New Zealand with 70-millionyear-old footprints found in six locations. eating dinosaurs which were among the largest animals to have lived, growing up to six metres (yards) in length and weighing several tonnes. He said he carefully considered all possible geological and biological explanatio ns for the features in the rock and was able to rule them out one by
one. His investigation included comparisons with dinosaur footprints in similaraged rocks in other parts of the world. The footprints were made in beach sands and were probably quickly covered and preserved by mud from subsequent tides. "What makes this discovery special is the unique preservation of the footprints in an environment where they could easily have been destroyed by waves, tides, or wind," he said. As with much of New Zealand, north-west Nelson was largely submerged between 70 and 20 million years ago and the footprints would have been covered by hundreds of metres of marine sediments. However, after the country was uplifted and northwest Nelson emerged from the sea, the overlying sedimentary rock has been eroded away over the past 20 million years to expose the footprints again, Dr Browne said.

Recommended Reading Bali Tourism Officials Challenge Claims by Best Western Kuta Resort that Letter is in Hand that Clears the Way for Legal Operations. Showdown Ahead? The controversial drama over the licensing and basic legitimacy of The Best Western Kuta Resort (Sapta Petala) continues. According to NusaBali, the hotel which has been in operations for more than a month, claims to now have a powerful letter of recommendation from the Bali Tourism Authority (Dinas Pariwisata Provinsi Bali). Bonaventura Cristiani, the General Manager of the Best Western Kuta Resort, made this boast to the press last week. Cristiani said his hotel, located on Jalan Bakung Sari in an area zoned as prohibited for hotel development, now holds a recommendation for the allimportant operating license. He told the press that his 111 room hotel is allowed to operate while waiting the necessary three months for the formal issuance of an operational licenses from the provincial tourism office (Dispar Provinsi). He told the press: "While we certainly do not have a license, but we do have a letter of recommendation from the provincial tourism office which allows us to operate. Naria said it would be impossible for the provincial tourism office of Bali to grant a license for the subject hotel. And, as regards the recommendation claimed by the Hotel's General Manager, Naria dismissed such a claim out of hand. "There is no such thing as a recommendation," Naria insisted. According to Naria, the Best Western Kuta Resort, which is still named the Sapta Petala, held a license issued in 2000 under the rules for autonomy in Bali. At that time the right to issue permits for inns was held by the provincial tourism office while permits for starred hotels were issued from Jakarta. More Like Malaysia Bali's Governor Pastika Thinks Malaysia May Have Lessons to Teach Bali in Tourism Promotion. Bali Hoteliers See Infrastructure as the Key to Growth. Various national media report that Bali's governor, I Made Mangku Pastika, admires and in some ways covets the manner in which Malaysia promotes its tourism industry. And well he might, while Bali, despite her many charms, attracts only around 2 million foreign tourists each year, while Malaysia managed to welcome 22 million foreign tourists in 2008. Pastika gave voice to his "jealousy" of Malaysia's burgeoning tourism industry in comments made at a Bali conference on "Terrorism Prevention in Bali's Tourism Environment" held on October 31, 2009. Quoted by Kompas.com, governor Pastika blamed Bali's relative shortfall in tourism numbers on a "wrong concept" and a lack of organized promotion. The governor complained: "To date all

that's been done is going back and forth on overseas trip armed with an unorganized concept. Everything needs to be reorganized." Refusing to specify what concept could best guide Bali tourism, Pastika said, "basically we will redesign tourism promotion, whether we will emulate Malaysia or not, let's wait and see." Bali Hotelier Beg to Differ Commenting separately, the Chairman of the Bali Hotel Association (BHA), Djinaldi Gozan, expressed disagreement with the governor's statement. He felt that Bali's tourism professional were pursuing the best course of action. "Promotion through the door-to-door distribution of pamphlets can only be done when large sums of money are available for promotion; a situation not enjoyed by Bali at this time," explained Djinadli. The BHA official also attributed much of Malaysia's tourism's success to the large amount of money lavished on tourism promotion. "The funds they (Malaysia) have for promotion is ten times the amount spent by Indonesia," he said. Djinaldi underlined, however, that the main obstacle Indonesia faces in bringing more tourist visitors is an inadequate infrastructure. Adding, "we can bring 5 or 7 million people, but on the other hand, we're not ready (to receive them) like Malaysia and Singapore." Djinaldi also pointed to poor immigration service at the airport and the frequent change of officials in charge as another stumbling block. "If there a program like 'Visit Indonesia' it is automatic that our airlines, infrastructure and their equipment must be complete and ready. And, while we can't say (the current situation) is horrible, but, rather, is in process to becoming better." To demonstrate his point, Djinaldi cited the high occupancy enjoyed by many hotels in Bali is dominated by areas such as Nusa Dua, Kuta, Sanur and Ubud. "It's not so much that the other areas are disliked, it's just that the facilities they offer are not as complete as these favorite destinations, he explained. Governor Pastika was not in total disagreement with the BHA official, crediting Malaysia's human resources, guaranteed security and good infrastructure as the mainstays of its successful tourism industry. In order to earn Bali a larger market share, Pastika said he would prioritize three areas: human resource, education and the people's health. He assured that in this way and by improving its infrastructure Bali would be on an accelerated path to 10 million tourist visitors coming to the island each year.

Beauty queen bar brawl turns ugly Miss England Rachel Christie has stepped down to clear her name following an alleged punch-up in a nightclub with a rival beauty queen. Christie is alleged to have attacked Miss Manchester in a row over a beefy television personality called Tornado. Christie has been arrested on suspicion of assault. Christie, 21, is the athlete niece of British Olympic 100 metres gold medallist Linford Christie and was crowned the first black Miss England in July. She specialises in the heptathlon and the 400 metres and is hoping to qualify for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Sara Beverley Jones, 24, was allegedly punched in the face after arguing about Tornado Royal Marine commando David McIntosh, who appears on the Gladiators combat program. Reports said McIntosh is Christie's boyfriend but used to date Jones. London's Evening Standard newspaper said the beauty queens began brawling after Jones showed Christie a provocative text message she claimed was from McIntosh. Jones was treatment in hospital for superficial facial injuries. "Due to the media attention following the allegations against her, Rachel Christie has now decided to withdraw from the Miss
World competition and relinquish her Miss England crown," the contest organisers said. "Rachel will concentrate on clearing her name and focus on training for the 2012 Olympics until this case is resolved. "Rachel is very upset about the matter." Miss England runner-up, Lance Corporal Katrina Hodge, a British Army soldier decorated for bravery while fighting in Iraq, has been promoted in Christie's place. Hodge will contest the Miss World crown in Johannesburg next month.

Inside the Terrorist Mind
Former Jamal Islamiyah Leader, Nasir Abbis, Shares How Terrorists Think and Why Bali May be Safe from Imminent Attack will Remain a Possible Target for Terror. Nasir Abbas, a Malaysian former jihadist of the radical Jamal Islamiyah Movement spoke in Bali on October 31, 2009, providing insights into the workings and concepts of the group blamed for a series of terrorist attacks across Indonesia. Speaking at a meeting convened by the Bali branch of the Association to Prevent Crime in Indonesia (LCKI) held at the Hotel Nikki in Denpasar, Abbas said that to truly understand terrorism we must examine not just its actions, but also its style and the content of
its messages. Citing examples, Abbas pointed to terrorists' justification of murder and bombing, refusal to mix with local populations, or strange behavior such as entering a room via the window. In order to understand the terrorist, he explained, "terrorists cannot only viewed from their physical aspects, but must also be evaluated from the content of their speech". In preventing terrorist attacks, public awareness has proven successful in alerting officials to strangers with peculiar personal habits who suddenly appear in local communities. And, according to the former radical, the threat of bombs and terrorists while reduced, cannot be completely eliminated in Bali due the concentration of Americans, Australians and their allies that make the island an attractive target for terrorist. Quick to condemn his former colleagues, Nasir said bombers are inhumane individuals when viewed from the perspective of any religion. He said their actions are cruel and have claimed the lives of many innocents.
Quoted in Radar Bali, Nasir said that while those who made Bali the target of the first bomb are now dead, such acts can reoccur at the hands of those who survive Dr. Azhari and Noordin M. Top. He cautioned that while no one has stepped into the shoes of Noordin and Azhri, there is an individuals whose ambition is to do so. Because of this, he warned the people of Bali to pay special attention to their surroundings and make a point of getting to know their neighbors. He underlined that those who desire to perform future acts of terror have a perverted and incorrect understanding of their religious faith. He went on to explain how JI continues to use family-based networks to recruit future bombers. The power of JI's message and global issues such as bombing in Palestine and Israel can all contribute to aiding the recruitment drive for new suicide bombers. The one-time JI leader who now assists Indonesian police in tracking terrorist bombers, is able to maintain contacts in fundamentalist circles despite being branded a traitor by his former murderous colleagues.

Keeping Bali's Economy Bubbling Interview with Prof. W. Ramantha, Dean of the Economics Faculty of Bali's Udayana University. The October 29, 2009, edition of The Bali Post carried an interview with Professor W. Ramantha, the Dean of the Economic Faculty at Bali Udayana University. Here is our translation of Professor Ramantha's comments. The Interview: Professor W. Ramantha Dean of Economics Faculty, Udayana University, Bali. Bali Post: Tourism remains the backbone of Bali's economy. What will be the condition in the future. Prof. Ramantha: For several years to come, tourism will be the foundation of a number of economic activities. What's more, in the past two years there's been rapid development in tourism. This means that this sector must be protected well to guarantee it can continue to make an even larger contribution in the future. Bali Post: What do you mean? Prof. Ramantha: Tourism cannot be exploited without accompanying efforts to retain and enhance its attractiveness. Because, if there are no repairs, eventually the tourists will become bored. Moreover, if we're not careful tourism can even decline. Let's not forget that tourism in Bali in addition to being dependent on nature is also reliant on the
environment, arts and culture. Bali Post: How do we do this? Prof. Ramantha: One effort should be plowing back some of the proceeds from tourism to create stronger tourism industry in the future. There must be reinvestment in tourism, both in tourism services as well in the manpower working in the tourism sector. Bali Post: What about other sectors? Prof. Ramantha: Actually, Bali has the potential to develop its economy outside of the tourism sector. To do this will require time. For example, the agricultural sector which is under pressure from decreasing land resources will need new breakthroughs in technology, new seeds and create a higher rate of return from the marketplace.

Hunt on for two million unsafe condoms
Police in central China have closed a factory producing fake and unsterile condoms and are tracking down over two million of the unsafe contraceptives already on the market, state press say. The condoms were made in a factory in Hunan province and are believed to have been sold nationwide under a variety of names, including those of well-known makers such as Jissbon and Durex, the China Youth Daily said. Police have detained suspect manufacturer Li Anping, who allegedly bought condoms wholesale, added an unknown lubricant and crudely packaged them without sterilising the product, the report said. Several underage girls worked in the now-shuttered factory, it added. Li allegedly produced up to 2.16 million condoms before the plant was closed down. Fake and faulty products remain a major concern in China as unscrupulous manufacturers seek to make profits as the nation's economy booms.

Semi-dried tomatoes linked to Hepatitis outbreak New South Wales Health is warning people not to eat semi-dried tomatoes because of fears they are linked to an outbreak of Hepatitis A. There have been dozens of cases of the virus in Victoria. The Department of Health in Victoria is continuing to investigate the outbreak.
Of the more than 80 people diagnosed with the virus, two thirds had eaten semi-dried tomatoes. New South Wales Health has recorded five cases since August. The Director of Communicable Diseases Doctor Jeremy McAnulty says three of them had eaten semidried tomatoes.
Dr McAnulty says it is unclear what the source of the virus is. "We're asking people to be cautious and make sure any semi-dried tomatoes they eat is thoroughly cooked," he said. He says there were only six cases of Hepatitis A reported in New South Wales last year.
Cash discovered in op shop donation
Volunteers at a Salvation Army store in the Melbourne suburb of Rowville made a shock discovery as they were sorting through donations dropped off last week. A staffer found thousands of dollars wrapped in a series of packages in a piece of furniture. Some of the packages had names on them, but police have been unable to trace them or the person who dropped off
the load of furniture last Friday. Senior Constable Jason Dickinson from the Rowville police station says his impression is that the furniture came from an elderly person or an estate. "We don't want to give too much away, because you can understand we don't want everyone turning up at the police station claiming the money," he said. "Anyone wishing to identify themselves as the owner would have to know the particulars of the furniture it was in and the way it was packaged." Police have already had a number of calls from people claiming to the owners. Salvos store manager Heather Webb says they have
procedures to follow when anything of value is found. "We ring the board of executives for Salvo stores and notify the police," she said. "Not every day does a substantial amount of money come in in a donation. It obviously was a bit of a surprise find." She would not speculate on why it was donated the way it was. "With that amount of money we felt as though it should go through proper channels. And if it was inadvertently donated, it gets returned to the right person," she said. And what would happen if no one claimed the money? "The Salvos would put that money to very good use," she said.
Fugitive gives own mug shot to newspaper Front-page mug shot: 23-yearold Matthew Maynard poses in front of a police van (thisissouthwales.co.uk) A British man on the run from police sent a picture of himself to his local paper because he disliked the mug shot they had printed of him as part of a public appeal to track him down. South Wales police had issued media with the photo of Matthew Maynard, wanted by
officers investigating a house burglary, as part of a crackdown on crime in Swansea. When it appeared in the South Wales Evening Post, the 23-year-old sent the newspaper a replacement photo of himself standing in front of a police van. They obligingly printed it on the front page. The police thanked him for helping them in their appeal, saying: "Everyone in

No bids for crypt atop Marilyn Monroe A second attempt to sell a crypt on top of Marilyn Monroe's final resting place has failed, with not a single bid received for the burial spot in a celebrity-filled Los Angeles cemetery. Widow Elsie Poncher is trying to sell her husband's crypt to pay off the mortgage on her Beverly Hills home. On selling the spot, Ms Poncher had planned to move
her husband - who died in 1986 - to an adjacent crypt intended for her. But a $US4.6 million ($5 million) bid submitted through eBay in August fell through. A second auction with a reserve price of $US500,000 also failed, with a notice on the website saying it had now closed with no bids. The crypt is located at the Westwood Village Memorial Park cemetery, the resting place of
celebrities including Dean Martin, James Coburn, Roy Orbison, Truman Capote, Natalie Wood, Carl Wilson, Minnie Riperton and Farrah Fawcett. The space next to Monroe's was sold in 1992 to the founder of Playboy magazine, Hugh Hefner, for $US75,000.
Anti-Taliban crusader killed in bombing A suicide car bomber has struck near a local mayor's house in Pakistan's Peshawar city, killing 11 people including the onetime rebel backer turned antiTaliban crusader, police said. The bomber also wounded 36 people outside a property of Mayor Abdul Malik on the outskirts of the northwest city. Malik, one of a number of city mayors, had raised a militia against Taliban rebels. Pakistan is currently waging an offensive against insurgents in their northwest mountain hideouts, incurring the wrath of the Tehreek-eTaliban Pakistan (TTP) group, which has retaliated with a wave of deadly attacks. "The suicide bomber came in a car and exploded it

when the mayor was standing with some visitors outside his guesthouse near the local livestock market," district administration chief Sahibzada Anis said. "Eleven people have been killed and 36 others wounded. Nine of them are in a critical condition," Anis added. Hospital officials said two children were among the dead. Mr Malik, mayor of Adizai suburb on Peshawar's outskirts since 2006, once had close links to the hardline Taliban movement but switched sides and had raised a local force to battle the extremists on the fringes of the city. "Abdul Malik and a commander of the local antiTaliban force are also among the dead," Peshawar police chief Liaqat Ali Khan said.
"Malik passed away on the way to hospital." A reporter at the scene described the roads littered with the wreckage of cars and the corpses of cattle killed at the livestock market. Pakistan has been hit by a wave of suicide blasts killing more than 350 people since early October. In the deadliest attack in two years, a car bombing killed 118 people on October 28 in Peshawar, the northwest capital. Islamabad has blamed the attacks on TTP militants avenging both the military offensive against them and the killing of their leader Baitullah Mehsud in a US drone missile strike in the rugged northwest tribal belt in August.

What happens to your email when you die? IN a digital world your deepest secrets no longer die with you. Andrew Ramadge reports on what happens to your private emails when you pass away. REMEMBER that time you poured your heart out in an email to your best friend after one too many glasses of wine? Or that sexy message from an old lover that made you blush at work? Well, if you die, your family and others could end up reading them. Web email services owned by internet giants Google and Microsoft have a policy of keeping your data after you die and letting your next of kin or the executor of your estate access it. There is no way for users to flag that they don't want this to happen and no recourse under Australia's existing privacy laws. More than one in four Australians uses webmail, with around six and a half million people logging on to one or more of the top three providers Hotmail, Gmail or Yahoo! in September, according to Nielsen Online NetView. Unlike a shoebox in the attic, these services can hold tens of thousands of messages. Accounts with Google's Gmail can hold up to 7GB or roughly 70,000 emails with a small to medium picture attached to each. And they archive the messages you've written as well as received. When it comes to deleting the data, Microsoft's Hotmail will remove an account if it is inactive for 270 days, while Gmail leaves the responsibility to the next of kin. Of the top three providers, only Yahoo! refuses to supply emails to anyone after a user has died. The user's next of kin can ask for the account to be closed, but cannot gain access to it. Mind the grunts: rude announcement for London London commuters listening out for the latest news about train services got a broadcast with a difference when the noise of a couple apparently having sex was blasted out over a station's loudspeaker system. Instead of the usual messages about delays, passengers at West Ham station in east London heard a couple's love-making antics being relayed over platform loudspeakers during the evening rush hour on Thursday (local time). "The noises heard by passengers were not from
within our station," a Transport for London spokesman said. "We believe they were a result of some sort of interference with our public address system. "It certainly wasn't coming from our staff." He said the station's public address system worked on radio waves and somebody must have been broadcasting on the same wavelength. He said staff had turned off the loudspeakers as soon as they realised what was going on. Once the user's death is confirmed, their profile can be turned into a sort of virtual shrine. When that happens, the profile is locked so no one can log into it and sensitive information (including status updates) is removed. Family members can determine how the memorial looks and behaves for example if other people can continue to write on the user's page but can't log into the profile themselves. From Facebook's Help page: "Please note that in order to protect the privacy of the deceased user, we cannot provide login information for the account to anyone. We do honour requests from close family members to close the
account completely." MySpace MySpace has no set policy when it comes to the profiles of deceased users. A spokesperson said: "Given the sensitive nature of deceased member profiles, MySpace handles each incident on a case-by-case basis when notified and will work with families to respect their wishes." The site says it will not allow anyone to "assume control" of the user's profile, however it won't rule out giving families access to the user's private data. MySpace does not delete profiles after periods of inactivity, but will remove a deceased user's profile at the family's request. A spokesperson said giving users a choice about who can access their data "sounds like a good idea".

What’s On ? Meditations on an Island Interview with Anand Krishna, Founder of the Bali Meditators Conference November 14-16, 2009. As reported on balidiscovery.c om, Bali will host the First Annual International Bali Meditators Festival in downtown Ubud November 14-16, 2009. The creation of Indonesian author, educator and spiritual leader Anand Krishna, the Bali conference will seeks to explore and expand the role meditation plays in the world's great faiths and religions. The Interview: Anand Krishna Recently we caught up with Anand Krishna in order to ask him more about the planned conference. Balidiscovery.com: Briefly, why are your organizing the First Annual International Bali Meditators Festival? Anand Krishna: I must say that I have been inspired by Janet's DeNeefe's Ubud Writers and Readers Festival. I was impressed not only by her phenomenal success, but by the fact that her efforts help in the realization of our common dream "One Earth, One Sky, One Humankind."
This is about bringing people together, people belonging to different walks of life, different backgrounds, differentdifferent-different.... Secondly, this is our response to combating the "spiritual, and holierthan-thou ego." I envision this as a celebration of differences among us. I would like to see this event as a bouquet of different flowers, each adding to the beauty of the bouquet. Balidiscovery.com: What role should meditation play in our daily lives? Anand Krishna: Interestingly, in my mother tongue, Sindhi, meditation is not only a verb, but an adverb. And, it is more often used as such - an adverb rather than a verb. So, it would be: "Sit meditatively," or even, "eat meditatively," than merely "meditate." Meditation, or "dhyaana" in sanskrit also means "being attentive," It is how you live, how you behave, - the very nature of your actions, thoughts, and words. "Sitting in meditation," for however long, means nothing if we do not practice meditation in our daily lives. Therefore, meditation cannot be separated from any aspect of life, be it political, social, economic, religious, or whatever. Balidiscovry.com: There's an inclination to believe someone attending such a conference might be
"pushed" in the direction of a specific denomination of religious belief. Is that a misconception? Anand Krishna: To be very honest with you, I would say "yes". I would be lying, if I said "no." It depends though, on how we define the "universal outlook towards life". If such is considered an "ism" and referred to as "universalism," and universalism is considered a denomination, then the answer to your question is "yes." But, if you do not consider universalism a movement or an "ism," then the answer to your question is "no."” But, once again, to be very honest with you, whether it is a denomination or not, an "ism" or not" - it if can make us a better person, more loving and caring - then why does it matter? Meditation can make us value and appreciate the truths found in all religions, all belief systems, and even in the "faith" of the so-called atheists. Balidiscovery.com How can meditation change the world? Anand Krishna: Meditation does not change the world. Meditation is not even really bothered about the world. I remember reading somewhere, "What makes God laugh the most is when He/She/It hears us making plans about the world." Meditation, in my opinion, is about changing oneself. If I change, you change, he and she changes, we all change - then the world changes.

Meanwhile, one of his other counterfeit pennies sold for $1,000 to a collector through the Greg Kucera gallery. Then, Mr. Daws woke up one morning in October and listened to a voicemail left by a Brooklyn graphic designer named Jessica Reed. “I think I found your gold penny,” the message said. How the golden penny traveled, through how many hands or cash registers, over the two years, may never be known. But now the journey has reached its endpoint. Late this summer, when Ms. Reed was paying for groceries at the C-Town supermarket in Greenpoint, she noticed the penny because the gold color had started to peek through. A fan of unusual coins,
she slipped it back into her change purse and tucked it into the recesses of her mind. Then recently, while doing research about a 1924 Mercury-head dime, she remembered the penny and typed “gold penny” into Google, which returned information on science experiments to give a penny a gold color. She added “1970” and found an item about how Mr. Daws had put a 18karat gold penny, dated 1970 with no mint mark, into circulation. It was heavier and smaller than a real penny. In disbelief, she weighed the penny on a digital scale. It came in at three grams, one gram more than similar pennies from 1970. And it was slightly smaller than a normal penny, owing to the shrinking after the casting process. She traced Mr. Daws's phone number through the gallery and left him the message. When he called back, he knew it had to be his penny as soon as she described it to him. Ms. Reed will keep the coin. She is thinking of having it framed. It's was a curious way to display a sculpture, she said. “I can't imagine being an artist who does something like this,” she said. “It's the opposite of having your stuff shown in a gallery. It could be tossed.

One afternoon in March 2007, Jack Daws stepped up to a newsstand in Los Angeles International Airport with a handful of change, including a counterfeit penny made of 18-karat gold that Mr. Daws, a Seattle artist, had fashioned. He carefully put the counterfeit penny, dated 1970, down on the counter, counted out enough change to pay $11.90 for a Hustler magazine and left. He got a cup of coffee and sat down on a seat with the newsstand in sight, and watched for an hour wondering if any of the travelers had walked off with his golden penny and where it would end up at the end of the day. Most counterfeiting takes something that is nearly worthless and turns it into something perceived to have value. Mr. Daws did just the opposite. He took value approximately $100 worth of gold and turned it into something perceived as nearly worthless, one cent. “It's there, but if people don't realize it, it's the same as not being there,”
he said. Of the 11 copper-plated gold pennies he made as part of his series, only this one was sent into the wider world. He never expected to see it again, but he wondered where the penny ended up: stuck in a giant penny jar, melted down with other coins back at the United States Min t, lost in a str eet gut ter.

MONEY can't buy you love but in one Chinese city it can get you an introduction to beautiful, well -educated single women. Eight high-rolling bachelors in the southern boomtown of Shenzhen, near the border with Hong Kong, have each paid 36,800 yuan ($A5,837) in the hope of finding a wife in a matchmaking competition,
state media said. The men - who are aged 28-45, willing to marry and have more than 10 million yuan in assets -will meet 15 women picked from a pool of 2,000 applicants for their looks and level of education, said the Guangzhou Daily. Zhang Guoyu, the organiser of the dating competition run by a matchmaking website, said the

men were "too busy working" and had no time to look for love the old-fashioned way. "The women they met were business partners and even if they were suitable, the men were more focused on making money so didn't bother with relationships," Zhang said. The women - who paid nothing for the chance to meet Mr Right - include university students, graduates and business owners. Female applicants had to answer "several hundred" questions about their income level and their attitude to love and life before being selected to meet the eight bachelors. In a country with a large gender imbalance in favour of males, one male blind date contest entrant said he reckoned the entry fee was a small price to pay for a chance at love. "Matchmaking allows you to focus your attention for a few hours to carefully select the one you are fond of," he said. "It's worth more than 30,000 yuan if you can find one."

Nathan Ablett hoping brother Gary follows him to Gold Coast Gold Coast coach Guy McKenna admits the presence of Nathan Ablett is unlikely to have much impact on luring his brother Gary to the expansion club for the 2011 AFL season. Nathan Ablett has a season to prove he's ready for an AFL return when the new club enters the league in 2011, as he will play for match payments when the Gold Coast play in the VFL in 2010. Nathan, 23, walked out on Geelong after the 2007 premiership win and moved to the Gold Coast to pursue a career in the building industry, but is now keen to resurrect his 32-game career. McKenna is excited at the prospect of having Nathan as a spearhead in his young team, but conceded they remained a longshot to get Gary, the 2009 Brownlow medallist. "I do know the brothers do get on and they do talk, like most families do, and I'm sure they will talk," McKenna said of Gary Ablett, who is out of contract at the end of 2010. "Is that going to help Gary make his mind up? "Probably in a scheme of 100 maybe one or two points it might rate. "Ultimately it's a decision Gary will make." Gary Ablett is out of contract after the 2010 season and told Network Ten he and the Cats had begun negotiating a new deal. "I love playing down there and hopefully we can work out a deal," he said. Geelong remain confident Gary, 25, will re-sign despite the potential earnings of $1.4 million a season with Gold Coast. While Nathan Ablett wants to rekindle his career with Gold Coast - where he can again work with assistant coach Ken Hinkley, a former coach at Geelong - one of the new club's challenges remains signing a marquee player. Potential targets Nick Riewoldt (St Kilda), Luke Hodge (Hawthorn) and Kurt Tippett (Adelaide Crows) all ruled out a switch by signing new contracts in 2009. McKenna said Gold Coast had "set the bar high" on their
recruiting wishlist, but were encouraged by the movement in this year's trade period, where 23 players switched clubs. "If you look at this year's movements, there were a few more high-end players move, like Shaun Burgoyne (from Port Adelaide to Hawthorn)," he said. "(Recruiting manager) Scott (Clayton) is more than confident we can put together a young and developing list for 2011 that will include uncontracted players as well." Nathan Ablett has not been promised a start in the Gold Coast's entry into the AFL, as he has signed a one-year deal and must prove his worth next year. He is currently recovering from an ankle injury but was looking
forward to the challenge of playing at the new club. "My aim is to play AFL again so hopefully I can use this as a bit of a stepping stone and play some good footy as well as getting myself fit," he said. McKenna said Ablett had "grown up" since leaving Geelong and had missed playing at an elite level. "Since moving away from Geelong and having watched what his brother and teammates did and what Geelong have done, he's realised 'Maybe I did take that premiership for granted and maybe I've got more things I want to succeed at in my AFL career','' he said.

Kevin Sheedy appointed coach of new western Sydney AFL side Four-time premiership coach Kevin Sheedy has been formally unveiled as the inaugural head coach of AFL club-in-waiting Western Sydney. Sheedy has signed a three-year deal, including the new franchise's first season in the AFL in 2012. "It's a great opportunity the AFL has given myself and my family to continue on a pathway in my life that has educated me, to have an opportunity to come and look at developing opportunities for young people in this area of Greater Western Sydney (GWS)," the 61-year-old Sheedy said at a media conference at Blacktown Olympic Park's AFL Precinct. "It's a pretty exciting period in the history of our game. "It's taken too long to get here, too long. "It took too long for a lot of other things that have happened in this country, but we're here now and we're going to get this right. "I'm very, very fortunate and very humble to be given that chance to build a new club." Sheedy said it was awkward to answer whether his appointment was more about marketing. "When I left Essendon there was 100 press people there and I was leaving the club," he said. "That wasn't really good marketing. "What it really is about is

that I'm a development person, I'm a development coach and that's what coaches do. "We're sort of like a foreman on the floor on a building site, trying to get the deal done. "It's great to see this establishment is built because it creates opportunities and jobs for people. "What we're going to do here is grab an opportunity for 40 to 50 kids who are contracted at
around $200,000. "What an opportunity that is. "To be the coach and perhaps a path finder to give them the knowledge I've been given, to share that knowledge with all my coaches, to get these kids up and running, is pretty exciting." Sheedy coached Essendon for 27 years, leading the Bombers to four flags. He also played 251 games for Richmond Tigers from 1967-79 and was a member of the Tigers' premiership teams in 1969, 1973 and 1974. After being dumped by Essendon in 2007, Sheedy was overlooked for the vacant coaching positions at Richmond and Melbourne Demons. He has spent the last two years working in an ambassadorial role for the AFL and has also done some promotional work for the

Tigers. Sheedy is one of the sport's top spruikers and his ability to sell the game is seen as an important asset as the AFL attempts to win support in rugby league heartland. "In 2010, Team GWS will enter the TAC Cup (elite Under18 competition) to fast track local talent," said AFL general manager of development David Matthews, who also chairs the Team GWS football subcommittee. "Alan McConnell will coach that side under Kevin's direction as Kevin concentrates on the broader components of the football build including developing the plan to take advantage of the recentlyannounced list establishment rules that Team GWS has been granted." Western Sydney will then progress to the VFL the following year, the same process being followed by the Gold Coast franchise. The Guy McKennacoached Gold Coast franchise will enter the AFL in 2011.

Zookeepers baffled by bare bears at zoo in Leipzig YOU would have thought a fur coat would have been the ultimate bear necessity. But not for unfortunate Dolores, who has lost all her body hair and has been left with just a few tufts around her head. Vets have been left baffled by the condition of the spectacled bear, who lives at a zoo in Leipzig. And Dolores isn't the only one. The sudden hair loss has affected all female bears at the zoo. Some experts believe it could be due to a genetic defect although the animals do not seem to be suffering from any other affliction. The bears normally have fluffy dark brown fur and
would now be growing a thicker coat to keep warm during the winter. Instead they have developed nasty rashes and inflammations. Unfortunately for the bears, their lack of hair has been pulling in the crowds, with hundreds more people than normal visiting the zoo to see the bare, wrinkly animals. Hopefully the zoo will be turning up the heat in their enclosure as the German winter approaches. Spectacled bears are native to South America and are sometimes called Andean bears,
after the mountain range they occupy. They are South America's only native bear and they're typically distinguishable by eyeglassshaped markings on their faces.
Horoscopes: Predictions for Nov. 9-15 ARIES (March 21 to April 19) -- A rejection of your attempt to be friendly leaves you with two choices: Try again, or give up. If you want to make another effort, go slowly. Let things develop without pressure. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) -- It could be a problem dealing with unfamiliar people who do things differently from what you're used to. But rely on that strong sense of purpose to get you through this difficult period. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) -- To avoid neglecting a personal matter because of a demanding new workplace schedule, start prioritizing immediately. Knowing how to apportion your time takes a little while to set up. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) -- It won't be easy to avoid some of the pressures that come with change. Best advice: Take things a step at a time, and you'll be less likely to trip up while things are in a chaotic state. LEO (July 23 to August 22) -- A much-talked-about workplace change could be coming soon. Be sure to get all the details involved in the process, and once you have them, you can decide how you want to deal with it. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) -- You might still believe that your trust was betrayed, although the facts would appear to prove the opposite. But by the week's end you should learn something that will help set the record straight. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) -- Holiday plans could be a challenge because of shifting circumstances. But a more settled period starts by midweek, allowing you to firm up your plan-making once and for all.
24
SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) -- The facts continue to be on your side. So make use of them in dealing with any challenge to your stated position. Also, open your mind to the offer of help from an unlikely source. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) -There could still be a communication problem holding up the resolution of a troublesome situation. Stay with it, and eventually your message will get through and be understood. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) -- A possible change in your workplace schedule might create a chaotic situation for a while. But once things begin to settle down, you might find that this could work to your advantage. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) -- A recent job-linked decision might need to be reassessed because of the possibility of finding benefits you might have overlooked. Check out all related data to help in the search. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) -- A personal situation you agreed to might not be as acceptable to the other person involved in the matter. Avoid pressuring and bullying. Instead, seek common ground by talking things through.

Chelsea 1 - Manchester United 0 Captain John Terry put Chelsea five points clear of Manchester United at the top of the Barclays Premier League with a second-half winner at Stamford Bridge. Terry glanced home a 76th minute free-kick from Frank Lampard although United claimed Didier Drogba was in an offside position. United had their chances with Wayne Rooney twice going close but the Blues made it a club record of 11 straight home wins. It was the home side who created the first goal attempt when Branislav Ivanovic burst down the right flank and let fly with a left-foot shot which Edwin van der Sar did well to hold at the near post. United though were far more comfortable on the ball with the home side given little time to build from the back. But a long cross from Michael Ballack in the 18th minute found the lurking Drogba on the edge of the sixyard box but the Ivory Coast striker failed to direct his header on target. United, despite their dominance, had not created a clear cut chance. In the 23rd minute, Chelsea won a free-kick but Lampard failed to test the United defence when he sent his curling effort beyond the far post. curling shot Drogba was fouled by Wes Brown in the 27th minute in a central position 25 yards from goal. It was another chance for the home side but again Lampard's freekick was poor as he sent his effort straight into United's defensive wall. Moments later Nicolas Anelka tried to beat Van der Sar from 35 yards but the United keeper dealt with it most comfortably. Van der Sar was tested again when he made a one-handed save to keep out a curling shot from Anelka in the 32nd minute. A quick counter attack from Chelsea saw Anelka put Deco free on the right flank but his cross eluded Ballack before arriving at the feet of Drogba. The striker was unable to control the ball and it ran harmlessly into the arms of Van der Sar. Drogba then broke into the penalty from the right flank but his angled drive ended in the upper tier of the stand as referee Martin Atkinson brought proceedings to a finish for the opening period. In the 50th minute Drogba got the better of United's John O'Shea but his 25-yard shot went wide of the

fierce shot Ivanovic was booked for a foul on Giggs in the 57th minute as the match began to open-up. Ricardo Carvalho managed to get his body in the way of a fierce shot from Darren Fletcher moments later. It was a fine piece of defending by the Chelsea man. A cross from Anelka fell kindly to Lampard on the edge of the penalty area but the England midfielder's shot was easily saved by Van der Sar. Chelsea had gone over 14 hours since they last conceded a goal at Stamford Bridge. It was time for the home side to make a change and Carlo Ancelotti opted to remove Deco in favour of Joe Cole, who was celebrating his 28th
Rooney should have punished Chelsea in the 66th minute when he took a return pass from Antonio Valencia on the edge of the penalty area. But the England striker sent his shot a foot wide of the far post. Seconds later Rooney brought a fine save from Petr Cech with a 20-yard curler which was destined for the top corner until the Czech international intervened. Chelsea were in front in the 76th minute when Ashley Cole was fouled by Fletcher on the left flank. Captain Terry rose to glance Lampard's free-kick into the corner of the net but United were furious that Drogba appeared to be in an offside position as the ball bounced beyond Van der Sar and into the net.

Australia beats India by six wickets to clinch one-day series Weary but jubilant, Australia have completed a remarkable limited overs series victory over India with a six wicket win at Guwahati. The Australians, tired and missing as many as nine players due to injury, found enough in reserve to wrap up the series 42 with one match to spare. Captain Ricky Ponting could not hide his delight at the victory, rating it with any one day series triumph of his long career, including multiple World Cups. "It's no secret that we've had a fair share of adversity in this series and to keep winning games and actually get better along the way is very satisfying," he said. "Perhaps the most satisfying series win I have been involved in ... I'm as happy as I've ever been at the end of a one day series. "The guys couldn't have done anything more. For a side to be as undermanned as we have been and beat India in their conditions is really good. "I hope it gets the recognition it deserves, this series win." Doug Bollinger, with an equal career-best 5-35, and Mitchell Johnson (3-39) were ruthless in exploiting the swing and seam on offer in the opening overs as India were bundled out for 170 following captain MS Dhoni's fateful decision to bat first.
18
The pair captured five wickets between them with the new ball to reduce the Indians to 5-27 in nine overs, depths from which they were never likely to recover.
Solid contributions by Shane Watson (49), Ricky Ponting (25), Mike Hussey (35no), Cameron White (25) and Adam Voges (23no) then allowed the visitors to reach the target with six wickets and 8.1 overs to spare despite a few nervous moments against the spin duo of Harbhajan Singh (2-23) and Ravindra Jadeja (0-36). But it was the visiting pacemen who ruled the day. Johnson's first full ball of the day swung back treacherously, exposing Sehwag's minimal foot movement and splaying the stumps. With the final ball of the over Johnson did it again, bending one around Gambhir's speculative onside push to pluck out off stump and make it 2-7. At the other end Bollinger gained less swing but still found enough life to cramp the batsmen, and Sachin Tendulkar fell when he bunted a scrambled seam delivery back to the bowler. Yuvraj Singh was unfortunate in his exit, bowled when a Bollinger delivery struck him on the thigh then top-spun back into his wicket, but there was nothing
unlucky about the demise of Suresh Raina, who tamely lobbed Johnson to Nathan Hauritz at shortish mid on. Bollinger (first spell 5-4-62) and Johnson (6-1-26-3) had done more than even Ponting could have asked for, and the next 21 overs were a slow scrap against tight support bowling by Clint McKay, Hauritz and Watson. Bollinger's return brought an instant breakthrough, Dhoni given lbw to a ball that may have missed off stump, and Harbhajan cuffed his first delivery onto his wicket. Allrounder Ravindra Jadeja (57) and seamer Praveen Kumar (54) hit out late to save India from utter embarrassment, but their free-scoring also indicated that the pitch was flattening enough for the chase. Jadeja's stand of 74 with Kumar was deservedly ended by Bollinger, who toasted a second international five-for in only his seventh match. Dhoni lamented the first half-hour as the difference between victory and defeat. "The first 15 minutes did all the damage today," he said. "They did bowl well. There was swing there, but they exploited it well ... The way we lost in Mohali and Nagpur, as a team you don't want to lose like that. But full credit to Australia, they took the games away from us." Game seven of the series is in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Man punched his way out of shark attack A man who was bitten by a shark south of Adelaide at the weekend says the shark released him when he punched it repeatedly in the mouth. Dean Brougham, 25, is recovering in hospital from arm and leg injuries. He has had an operation on his hand and he is awaiting surgery on his leg. He told reporters from his hospital bed he had been spear fishing in the water at Second Valley for just seven minutes when the shark attacked. He thinks it may have been a white pointer. "I came up, as soon as I got to the surface I felt someone,
something pulling my leg and I thought it was just someone being a smart arse, and I turned around and just saw the big face looking at me," he said. "It was unimaginable, just freaky, just seeing this big monster's head just looking at you." Mr Brougham said the shark fled when he punched it in the mouth. "I just started beating it, just trying to get rid of it, and then it let me go and then I was just straight towards the cliffs," he said. "I can't believe first

$100k payout for jilted lover in Victoria A CHEATING husband has paid his former lover more than $100,000 under Australia's new "mistress laws". In the first known case of its kind in Victoria, the Melbourne businessman was sued under changes to the Family Law Act - which gives rights to people in de facto relationships and samesex marriages, the Sunday Herald Sun reports. Legal experts say the case, prompted by the end of an affair of more than 20 years, will strike fear into the hearts of philanderers nationwide. The woman, who has not been named for legal reasons, said not only did she deserve the money, but others should follow her lead. "I gave him the best years of my life," she said. "He always told me he would look after me, then he left me. I had committed myself fully to him for all those years and it just came to a dead end. "He behaved like a gentleman toward me throughout our relationship - except at the end and now he has been a gentleman again by doing the right thing. "I saw our relationship as a loving companionship. "He got a lot of relaxation away from the stresses of his business life. When he came to me he did not have to worry about business. "And I provided him with a lot of moral and emotional support. "So this is also about giving our relationship a validity. It is a recognition that I have added something of value to his life. "Now I am beginning to come to terms with life again. The money provides me with a security in my later years. "This law has made a difference for me, so hopefully it will make a difference for others like me." The lawyer for the woman who took the action said his client "Mary" (not her real name) started the affair with "Tom" (not his real name) more than 20 years ago, with the pair enjoying a close bond throughout the period. "Many marriages don't last that long," the lawyer said. Mary accompanied Tom on several overseas and interstate trips and she often joined him at dinner functions. "They had a mutual commitment to each other and Tom promised he'd look after her. But he was married and still is married." Though Mary worked and had her own home, Tom also gave her a monthly allowance running into four figures. The pair - now pension-age - had regular sex and Tom showered her with gifts, the lawyer added. But Tom ended the affair this year.
Mary said she was devastated at being dropped. Then she learned of the law change and her legal team sent a letter of demand - quoting the new legislation to the man. "It settled (out of court) within weeks," her lawyer said. "If it had not been for this law, my client would have been abandoned, left on the scrap heap. "This is an acknowledgment that if you are in any substantial relationship, each party has a level of commitment to each other." The new federal laws for maintenance and division of assets for de facto couples, mistresses and same-sex couples came into effect on March 1 and any disputes are heard by the Family Court or the Federal Magistrates' Court. The laws give some mistresses, as well as de facto and same-sex couples, the same rights as married couples. A mistress wanting maintenance or a pay-out had to prove the couple had a long-term relationship, a sexual relationship, financial dependency, a commitment and a public recognition of the relationship, Mary's lawyer said.

The world's sexiest cities As a concept, 'sexy' means something different to different people, but there are some places that are universally regarded as being seething hives of hotness. Rio De Janeiro Where: Brazil If there's one city in the world that has all the ingredients of 'sexy', it's Rio. It's got the faraway exoticism, the party playboy reputation and the stunning natural setting. Throw in the beaches especially the world famous Copacabana and the fact that so many songs and movies seem to name-check it as a byword for good times, then you've got a complete set. And if that's not quite enough, there are also the reams of pictures of bronzed beach booty, a truly pumping club scene and the world's most hedonistic party the Rio Carnival. The latter is all about provocative dancing, fearsomely skimpy clothing and showing it all off, after all. Buenos Aires Where: Argentina If you like your South American sexiness a bit more on the classy side, then there's no competition: Buenos Aires is the place to be. It's the most European city in South America, with sharply-dressed inhabitants and a swaggering sense of 20
superiority and confidence. But the elegance combines with a Latino passion and spirit that is expressed best in the form of Argentina's most famous (and hottest) export the tango. Seville Where: Spain Picking the sexiest city in Spain is a bit like trying to pick the coldest city in Siberia. There are so many candidates, but the likes of Madrid and Barcelona are pipped at the post by Seville. Architecturally, the city has an exotic twist, with much of it being built in Andalusia's Muslim period, but it's the weather and the attitude that make it.The sun is invariably blazing here, and the locals have a real uncompromising, passionate take on life. And the nightlife is unparalleled. It all starts at midnight at the earliest and goes on until well after sunrise, with dancing not drinking the key ingredient. Havana Where: Cuba While Spanish-speaking
isn't a prerequisite for sexiness, an awful lot of the world's most alluring cities seem to have it as a common denominator. And there's no way that Havana can be left off this list. The Cuban capital combines rebel status and salsa rhythm with old-school charm and suaveness. It has a sense of romance, with a seriously seductive music and dance club scene. And, of course, it's the ideal place to have a post-coital cigar. Miami Where: United States Some would say New York, some would argue for Los Angeles, and others would go for Vegas, but it's that Latino influence again that gives Miami the title of the sexiest city in the United States. The huge Cuban population transfers some of the Havana vibe over, while the sticky summers and the DJ scene give it an extra kick. Throw in numerous sexed-up
whirlwind of art movements and cafes that suddenly turn into thumping clubs crammed with a gorgeous, often frenzied clientele. Cannes Where: France Frankly, the whole Côte d'Azur has a sexy image, and St Tropez or Monaco are formidable rivals to Cannes in attracting filthy-rich, wellheeled and stylish clientele to the beaches and bars. But Cannes wins because of the star power the Cannes Film Hollywood films, from Miami equivalent of Amsterdam, it's Festival is a hive of strutting Bangkok.
