Future of Former Sari Club Site Depends on Ability of Supporters to Consolidate Their Efforts and Raise the Funds to Purchase and Develop Site of 2002 Bali Bombing. The Australian reports that some Australians are upset with rumored plans to develop the vacant lot that once held the Sari Club into another Kuta entertainment venue. The Sari Club and the adjacent Paddy's were destroyed on October 12, 2002, by a terrorist bomb that claimed 202 lives. The paper reports that Balinese businessm an Kadek Wiranatha has secured a 15 year lease on the land with plans to eventually erect a night spot. A permanent memorial to the Indonesians and foreigners who died on October 12, 2002 has already been built on Kuta's main street. The memorial stands on "ground zero" and is located about equidistant between the former Paddy's and Sari Club.

The Australian government has called for the development of the site "in a manner appropriate to the memory of the victims of the bombing." Efforts underway since 2002 by a group of private Australians and Indonesians to acquire the site and erect a peace park costing between AUS$1.5 2.5 million have been plagued with problems. Slow efforts to obtain tax-free status for the project and internal dissension within the membership of the voluntary peace park association has left the lot empty and open to eventual commercial developme nt, if the proposed memorial park cannot eventually be funded. The Australian says that a recent meeting between the Australian Consul-General in Bali, Lex Bartlem, and Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika generated "positive" support from the Balinese government for the proposed peace park. Just 7 km from Candidasa, is Tenganan, a Bali Aga Village (The original Bali). This pleasant, tranquil place is worth a visit and the people are welcoming and good natured. For decades visitors have been attracted to this “living museum”, many of them drawn by the geringsing (Double Ikat), cloth woven by the women of Tenganan. After you have paid a small donation, you enter this village which is 500 meter long and 250 meter wide and surrounded by natural walls with only through Tenganan is very interesting; you can see how the people live, some temples, and some typical local architecture. The inhabitants of this village live according to their ancient traditions and ceremonies. They continue to practice traditional arts like making baskets and lontar leaf books or calendars. In this village buffalos walk freely around and are ignored by the villagers. If you go to Tenganan, read about it beforehand or take local guide from the village. Raid 'saves cats from being eaten’ ANIMAL activists in Shanghai have rescued 300 cats from a dealer who had bought the allegedly stolen pets for sale to restaurants in southern China, state media reported. The activists, acting on a tip from a cat lover, found 22 bamboo cages full of cats in a freight yard, from where they were to be shipped to Guangdong province, the Shanghai Daily reported today. Most of the animals were returned to their owners, but three cats were found dead and some had broken legs, the report said. "The cats are abused. They throw the cages on to a truck instead of loading them properly. The cats that survive end up in soups at restaurants,''

Lai Xiaoyu, an activist involved in Friday night's rescue told the newspaper. Restaurants pay about 50 yuan ($9.06) a cat, according to the report. Police detained the cat dealer, Yang Baoguo, after he battled dozens of animal lovers who descended on the freight yard to break his cages, the newspaper said. The dealer was released after a few hours without charge because animal protection laws are nonexistent in China, the report said. "There is no law in China saying cats cannot be eaten,'' police officer Ma Yong was quoted as saying. "Cats are not a protected animal.'' Mr Yang, who has traded

cats for a decade, bought the animals from so-called hunters who trapped the cats in residential areas at night, the report said. Police could not charge him with possessing stolen property because, unlike dogs, a licence is not required for owning a cat in Shanghai, making ownership impossible to prove, the report said. Eating cat meat is a tradition in many parts of China, especially in southern regions, where some restaurants specialise in preparing the dishes, according to Chinese media reports.

Horoscopes: Predictions for June 29-July 5 ARIES (March 21 to April 19) -- Get your facts together and become familiar with them before you have to face up to that interview. The better prepared you are, the easier it will be to make that important impression. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) -- New information might warrant changing your mind about a recently made decision. Never mind the temporary confusion it might cause. Acting on the truth is always preferable. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) -- Creating a loving atmosphere for those you care for could pay off in many ways. Expect to hear some unexpected but very welcome news that can make a big difference in your life. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) -- Stepping away from an old and seemingly insoluble problem might be helpful. Use the time to take a new look at the situation and perhaps work out a new method of dealing with it. LEO (July 23 to August 22) -- You're still in a favorable goal-setting mode. However, you might need to be a little more realistic about some of your aims. Best to reach for what is currently doable. The rest will follow. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) -- A setback is never easy to deal with. But it could be a boon in disguise. Recheck your proposal, and strengthen the weak spots. Seek advice from someone who has "been there and done that." LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) -- Coming up with a new way of handling a tedious job-regulated chore could

4

lead to more than just a congratulatory memo once the word reaches the "right people." Good luck. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) -- What you might call determination someone else might regard as stubbornness. Look for ways to reach a compromise that won't require a major shift of views on your part. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) -You're still in a vulnerable mode vis-a-vis "offers" that sound too good to be true. So continue to be skeptical about anything that can't be backed up with provable facts. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) -- Thrift is still dominant this week. What you don't spend on what you don't need will be available for you to draw on should a possible (albeit temporary) - money crunch hit. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) -- Staying close to home early in the week allows for some introspection about your social life. Sort out your feelings before rejoining your fun-time fellows on the weekend. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) -- It can be a bit daunting as well as exciting to find yourself finally taking action on a long-delayed move for a change. It helps to stay with it when others rally to support you. IF YOU WERE BORN THIS WEEK: Your love of home and family provide you with the emotional support you need to find success in the outside world.

I have been living here 5 years and have decided to leave. I have a clean, small bungalow in a very quiet garden compound. I am 5 minutes or less from Bemo Corner by motorbike (10 minutes or less walking). The compound has 7 small bungalows and many trees (many fruit trees) and flowers, I have a small orchid garden at my bungalow. I am looking for someone interested in taking over the bungalow and ALL the furnishings (I own all but AC and hot water heater). I have a 37" LCD TV with theater surround sound DVD system, Indovision satellite TV parabola and a high end computer system with Speedy ADSL internet connection. The kitchen is small but complete and efficient including a gas cooker and a small electric oven, all small appliances, flatware, silverware etc etc are included. The bungalow is ready to simply move into. All linens, towels and such are included. I will take only my personal possessions. The rent is paid through Dec 5 and I have been paying a reasonable amount. Rental renewal would have to be negotiated with the owner who has approved a transfer to a new occupant (expect Rp20.000.000 per year). The owner is a local Balinese man who employees a crew to keep the compound clean and tidy. He is very friendly and has always been quite good in response to any problems with the property and/or bungalow. Come have a look if you are serious about living in Kuta. I am asking Rp26.500.000 which includes rent up to Dec 5 and all household goods. If you are interested please

With Jackson News, a Surge in Web Traffic Did your Internet connection seem slow Thursday afternoon? It very likely wasn't your computer; it was the surge of interest in Michael Jackson's hospitalization and death. Akamai said that traffic to news Web sites spiked around 6 p.m. Eastern, clocking in at one point at 4.2 million visitors a minute. During the rest of the day, the sites tracked by Akamai never exceeded 3 million visitors a minute. Some entertainment news Web sites including EOnline.com and PerezHilton.com appeared to load more slowly than normal. Sometimes they did not load at all, according to the observations of several reporters early Thursday evening. Even Google had trouble keeping up. Between 5:40 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. Eastern, after TMZ.com had said Mr. Jackson had died, some visitors to Google News “experienced difficulty accessing search results for queries related to Michael Jackson,” a Google spokesman said. AIM, the instant messaging service operated by AOL, collapsed for about 40 minutes amid all the Jackson attention. The service was “undergoing a previously

scheduled software update” at the time, the company said in a statement to PC Magazine. The company called the day “a seminal moment in Internet history.” It said: “We've never seen anything like it in terms of scope or

thousands of tweets about Michael Jackson every minute. “We saw more than double the normal tweets per second the moment the news broke the biggest increase since the US presidential election (and Twitter has grown tremendously since then),” one of Twitter's co-founders, Biz Stone, told a sister blog Bits. Some TV news anchors took note of the slowdown. “My computer is having a very difficult time right now,” remarked Shepard Smith, a Fox News anchor, who surmised the delays were due to the intense interest in Mr. Jackson. However, the servers for TMZ.com, which broke much of the news about Mr. Jackson, did not seem sluggish. TMZ held a live chat and even simulcast a local Fox affiliate's coverage on Thursday evening.

Historically, celebrity news prompts a worldwide outpouring with several key consumer behaviors searching, sharing and reacting to the news followed by online tributes has become the modern way to mourn. Geelong captain Tom Harley admits he's in awe of unbeaten St Kilda A full service web design house providing web development solution for companies or individuals interested in outsourcing their web design and website development needs

30

Geelong captain Tom Harley has set a dramatic stage for Sunday's clash of the unbeaten clubs, declaring the Cats were "in awe" of St Kilda this year. Despite a rampant run in which Geelong has won 55 of its past 58 games, the Cats have claimed underdog status for the Etihad Stadium blockbuster next Sunday. Harley and Shannon Byrnes, who kicked four goals against Port Adelaide on Sunday, referred to St Kilda as the competition's benchmark. St Kilda defeated Richmond by 56 points at Etihad Stadium to remain unbeaten along with Geelong, which beat Port by 34 points at Skilled Stadium. It is the first time in VFL/AFL history two unbeaten sides have met so late in the year. Geelong coach Mark Thompson admitted his side needed the challenge. Thompson said the build-up for the Saints game had been so momentous, his players had begun to look ahead to the clash. "They told me no, but maybe they were telling a few little porky pies. It's hard not to think of it," he said after Geelong's win. "Next week should be a great game. We are really looking forward to it. I don't think it's ever happened before. "It's just enjoyable to be in a situation where there's a lot of talk, and we are a good team and they are a good team, and the crowd is going to be full and there will be a lot of media interest. It's exciting to be part

of that." Harley said the Geelong players had monitored St Kilda's rampaging season and believed they had set the standard in many ways. "We have been watching them in awe, to be honest, so we will see how we go. The whole footy world is talking about the St Kilda game," Harley said. "I am really excited. The build-up

encounter built to epic proportions in Round 15 last year before Geelong lost the grand final. "From a coaching point of view the game will be played and it will be exciting in the box and the players will be nervous," Thompson said. "But once the game is done I don't really think there are that many statements to be made." Harley agreed: "It will probably be a relief when it's over. I don't think the result one way or another will dictate how the season is going to pan out."

Saints coach Ross Lyon quickly painted his side as the underdogs and he said the club was eager to test itself against the best in the competition. "Why are Geelong the benchmark team? Quite simply, it's weight of numbers," he said. "All we've done is win 13 in a row. They've been a premiership team and grand final team and we really get to measure ourselves against a yardstick. "We get to walk away next week knowing where we need to is going to be awesome. You improve, regardless of the result. don't often get the opportunity Geelong have a strong history of mid-year to have this sort of attacking their challenges, of game. "We have been watching them which we're one, really fiercely. So we're under no illusions what's in and it is the party line, but you watch what they do. Not with the front of us. “They always find a way to eye to playing them - you just win, there's going to be two firstwatch how they are going because they are setting a lot of class midfields come up against each other, two strong defences benchmarks, especially and two quality forward lines." defensively." But Harley and Thompson have played down the stakes for the game. The Cats are aware they defeated Hawthorn in an

The View: Fox Sports gives its take on the AFL round 13 action Eight games, another bunch of highlights, lowlights, winners, grinners, sinners and moments to remember. Here's our take on the interesting weekend that was round 13 in the AFL. The Brownlow Banker: St Kilda's Brendan Goddard picked up the Ian Stewart Medal for being best afield in his side's big win over Richmond on Sunday night. The Fox Sports commentary team adjudged Goddard the game's outstanding individual effort and the stats suggest they got it right. The skilled quarterback had 35 telling touches and booted a goal as he covered every blade of grass at Etihad Stadium. The Golden Moment: The No.9 jumper has always been a big seller in the West Coast merchandise store. Expect that to continue this year, particularly if Nic Naitanui can win a few more games off his own boot like Saturday night's effort against Hawthorn. His dazzling three-goal final-quarter cameo steered West Coast to their fourth win of the year, but it was more a sign of things to come that had Eagles fans jumping in the stands. Didn't See That Coming: When Sam Mitchell raised the AFL premiership cup back in September, it was supposed to mark the beginning of a dynasty. The brash young Hawks, with a host of stars and potential champions, stunned Geelong. Now, the finals seem a long shot. Saturday night's loss to the lowly Eagles means a top-four finish looks unlikely and a place in the finals 50-50. It's a turnaround that rivals their unexpected flag for shock value. The Biggest Flop: Oh, to be a fly on the wall when the Carlton football department and the club's marketing gurus sit down for a coffee on Monday morning. In fact, it'll be surprising if individuals from

either camp speak to one another this week. The Blues were bold and brash in pre-season declaring 'They know we're coming'. It was a warning to the rest of the league that the Blues were back in town and ready to mix it with the big boys again. How it has come back to bite Brett Ratten and his team, particularly as the Bombers ran all over them on Friday night. Watch This Space: Another week, another Barry Hall fiasco. Hall will find out on Monday if he's got another holiday courtesy of the AFL match review panel for his jab to the rather sizeable scone of Ben Rutten. It wasn't a telling blow but it was a blow. And it was Barry. So there is the possibility he'll cop a month due to overhanging points and that nasty scowl of his. Will it lead to another club-imposed ban? Meanwhile, Brendan Fevola could also be out of action if Brett Ratten's patience with the burly Blue has run out. Spray Of The Week: Brisbane Lions coach Michael Voss was furious on Saturday night. Someone should have reminded him that he is in charge of the mob who won. A 55-point victory, two big forwards firing and Daniel Rich turning in another polished performance wasn't enough for Vossy. He labelled it one of his team's worst performances of 2009 because they didn't "connect" very well. Look out if they do. Wouldn't Want To Be You: Mark Williams is expected to find out this week if he's still got the top job at Port Adelaide next season. The hand he holds at the negotiating table is not a strong one, however. He has a 6-7 record this season, but four losses from the past five weeks. Sunday's loss to Geelong doesn't look that horrendous on the scoreboard, but apart from a barnstorming finish after the Cats

put the cue in the rack, it was. The money's also tight at Alberton. Good luck, Choco. The Last Laugh: When St Kilda veteran Max Hudghton hopped on a stretcher clutching his injured ankle, many thought that was the end of that. The ageing warrior has been as brave as any Saint in his time at the club, but his body has not always agreed with his courage. The eulogies flowed for a fantastic career as he headed up the race. Soon after, Hudghton was running up and down the Etihad Stadium boundary line in a recovery that would have made iron man Jim Stynes blush. The wily backman could even play next weekend against Geelong and a premiership still a possibility. The last laugh is on hold for now. What's His Name Again He Had A Belter: When Essendon played Carlton earlier this season, Brendan Fevola bet Bomber Darcy Daniher $100 that he wouldn't last the night as his opponent. History shows Fev had a fair, but inaccurate night, and owes the young bloke some money. On Friday night there was no sign of Daniher, but another green Bomber made it another bad outing for the big Blue. Tayte Pears dominated his more experienced and well-off opponent as the Dons roared to victory. Liam Anthony and Callan Ward were another couple of impressive kids in action. What You Won't See This Week: Former Carlton president John Elliott catching up with his old mates from Princes Park for a chat. Ahead of the Friday night debacle against the Bombers, Jack piped up with revelations that, during his time in charge, women were paid hush money to cover up claims of sexual assault. The Blues are seething and Elliott's links with the club, including his life membership, are likely to be rescinded.

The study took into account smoking status, physical activity, age, gender and alcohol consumption. It included a separate analysis excluding those who died early in the 12-year period, in order to weed out participants who might have been thin because they were smokers or had an underlying disease, like cancer.

Proteas coach Mickey Arthur gives England a blueprint to beat Australia Australia are being double-teamed by their sworn cricketing enemies, with South Africa handing England their successful blueprint on how to beat Ricky Ponting's team. England head into the Ashes Test series with fresh information from Proteas coach Mickey Arthur, who has revealed his game plan for individual Australia players. Arthur's team created history last summer when they became the first South Africa side to win a Test series on Australian soil. The Proteas then locked horns with Australia in a 2-1 series defeat in South Africa Arthur has subsequently provided England with a dossier and tips on Australia players. Arthur's blueprint advises England to: Aim to cramp Australia opener Phillip Hughes on the leg-side, "because he wants room to slash you through the off-

side". Stack the slips and bowl wide outside off stump to Test skipper Ricky Ponting as "he likes to feel bat on ball early, especially in the first five deliveries". "He doesn't like leaving the ball, so we just hung it out there, outside his eyeline, and made him fetch it." Use Andrew Flintoff to bowl short at Mike Hussey, do not expect much weakness from Mitchell Johnson, apart from "a tendency to get down on himself at times", watch for Shane Watson to play a part in the Ashes. "There are one or two question marks about his temperament, whether he's tough enough for the very top level. But his cricket is amazing." Not only has Arthur provided key advice, but England is getting help from another important source.

Buchanan has arrived in in Britain to assist the England Lions this week. Buchanan has taken up a consultancy role with English cricket and will be in the Lions' dressing room during the tour match against Australia, which starts in Worcester on Wednesday. Arthur claimed Australia's top six batsmen hold the edge over England and said the Poms' best chance of Ashes victory was for Flintoff to unleash hell with the ball. "We felt Andrew Flintoff bowled too negatively last summer," Arthurs said.

Ashes countdown No.9: Australia won the first Ashes Test by nine wickets We continue our 30-day countdown to the first Ashes Test with the very first Ashes Test, the historic match which took place at the MCG in 1882. The England cricket team travelled to Australia in 1882 on a journey of redemption after losing at The Oval by seven runs. “Whatever the origins of the Ashes, the uncertainty only adds to the mystique and appeal of the battle for the most famous trophy in cricket.” That defeat, after all, had prompted the most famous piece of cricket reporting in history: "In affectionate remembrance of English cricket which died at The Oval, 29th August, 1882. Deeply lamented by a large circle of sorrowing friends and acquaintances, RIP. NB The body will be cremated and the Ashes taken to Australia." The rebirth of English cricket was such that only four England men played both at The Oval and in what would become known as the first Ashes Test, in Melbourne. And WG Grace was not among the four. Australia, by comparison, had nine men play in both Tests. For all England's changes, they suffered a more comprehensive defeat at the MCG than at The Oval - losing by nine wickets having been forced to follow on. Their resurrection was incomplete, the reincarnated team alive in body but not in deed. Australia made 291 in their first innings before they dismissed the tourists for 177, George “Joey” Palmer the chief

destroyer with Test-best figures of 7-65. England were dismissed equally easily in the second innings, for 169 - George Giffen taking 4-38, Fred Spofforth taking 3-65 and Palmer taking 3-61 - and Australia "hit off the required number", Wisden Almanack reported, "by good and careful cricket" from Alec Bannerman and captain Billy Murdoch. Wisden, meanwhile, noted the match was much closer than the scorecard suggested, as "a large number of catches were missed in this match, and the Englishmen were by far the greatest sinners in this respect". Wisden also reported that "the Englishmen were placed at a disadvantage in the inability of (fast bowler Frederick) Morley to take part in the match, and the winning of the toss was a distinct gain to Murdoch's men, as they were thus enabled to bat on the opening day, whilst the visitors were compelled to play the whole of both innings on a wicket which the heavy showers of Sunday had seriously affected". The second and third Tests proved that report prescient, with offbreak bowler Billy Bates, medium-pacer Dick Barlow and Morley, who was regarded, at his peak, as the fastest bowler in England, destroying Australia. Bates claimed match figures of 14-102 off 59.2 overs, the best of his career, as England squared the ledger with victory by an innings and 27 runs in the second Test, also in Melbourne.

The match was notable as England recorded the first innings victory in Test history, after Bates had claimed the first Test hat-trick by an England bowler, in Australia's first innings. Bates also became the first player to score a fifty and take 10 or more wickets in the same Test. The tourists claimed the Ashes with a 69-run victory in the third and final Test in Sydney. Morley and Barlow starred this time, Morley claiming 4-43 in Australia's first innings before Barlow chimed in with a Testbest 7-40 in the second innings. England's cricketing resurrection, now, was complete, and the tourists' captain, Ivo Blair, was presented with The Urn, the trophy famously said to contain the ashes of a bail used in the third match. Other reports subsequently suggested the ashes were those of a bride's veil, others still a ball. And another report held that Aborigines believed the ashes were those of King Cole, a cricketer who toured England in 1868. Whatever the origins of the Ashes, the uncertainty only adds to the mystique and appeal of the battle for the most famous trophy in cricket.

Pope Says Tests 'Seem to Conclude' Bones Are the Apostle Paul's

ROME (AP) The first scientific tests on what are believed o be the remains of the Apostle Paul, the Roman Catholic saint, “seem to conclude” that they belong o him, Pope Benedict XVI said Sunday.

Archaeologists recently unearthed and opened the white marble sarcophagus located under he Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls in Rome, which for some 2,000 years has been believed by he faithful to be the tomb of Paul. Benedict said scientists had conducted carbon dating tests on bone fragments found inside the sarcophagus and confirmed that hey date from the first or second century. “This seems to confirm the unanimous and uncontested radition that they are the mortal remains of the Apostle Paul,” Benedict said, announcing the indings at a service in the basilica o mark the end of the Vatican's Pauline year, in honor of Paul. Paul and Peter are the two main figures known for spreading he Christian faith after the death of

Christ. According to tradition, Paul, also known as the apostle to the Gentiles, was beheaded in Rome in the first century during the persecution of early Christians by Roman emperors. Popular belief holds that bone fragments from his head are in another Rome basilica, St. John Lateran, with his other remains inside the sarcophagus. The pope said that when archaeologists opened the sarcophagus, they discovered alongside the bone fragments some grains of incense, a “precious” piece of purple linen with gold sequins and a blue fabric with linen filaments. Vatican archaeologists in 2002 began excavating the eight-foot coffin, which dates from at least 390 and was buried under the basilica's main altar. The decision to unearth it was made after pilgrims who came to Rome during the Roman Catholic Church's 2000 Jubilee year expressed disappointment at finding that Paul's tomb buried under layers of plaster and further hidden by an iron grate could not be visited or touched. The top of the coffin has small openings, subsequently covered with

mortar, because in ancient times, Christians would insert offerings or try to touch the remains. The basilica stands at the site of two fourth-century churches, including one destroyed by a fire in 1823 that had left the tomb visible, first above ground and later in a crypt. After the fire, the crypt was filled with earth and covered by a new altar. A slab of cracked marble with the words “Paul apostle martyr” in Latin was also found embedded in the floor above the tomb. Monday is the feast of Saints Peter and Paul, a major feast day for the Catholic Church, during which the pope will bestow a woolen pallium, or scarf, on all of the archbishops he has recently appointed. The pallium is a band of white wool decorated with black crosses that is a sign of pastoral authority and a symbol of the archbishops' bond with the pope. At the end of Sunday's service in the warm basilica, Benedict, 82, lost his balance slightly as he slipped on a step on the altar and was steadied by one of his assistants who was by his side.

Reading Pigeons' Brains as They Fly

Reading Pigeons' Brains as They Fly Ever wonder what goes on nside the minds of pigeons? No? Researchers in Europe

have.

Alexei L. Vyssotski of the University of Zurich and colleagues have studied the brain activity of homing pigeons as they fly over visual landmarks. How homing pigeons find heir way back to a starting point is not completely known. Studies have shown that the birds variously use he position of the Sun and the Earth's magnetic field as a compass, and sense of smell and visual cues as navigation aids. But he use of visual cues has been difficult to study, because if a bird lies over a landmark and doesn't change its course, it's impossible to know whether the bird has not

perceived the cue or is ignoring it. The researchers developed tiny neurologgers, to record electrical activity in the pigeons' brains as they flew. The birds also carried small global positioning system units to track position. By matching brain activity to location, the researchers could determine the effect of flying over a landmark. The birds' flights began over water, a relatively featureless environment, and then continued over land to a homing point. This enabled the researchers to determine brain activity as the birds reached the coastline and then flew over other landmarks. They found that activity in both high- and mid-range frequencies occurred as the birds passed over a landmark. The researchers, who reported their findings in Current Biology, suggest that the mid-range frequencies are linked to the perception

of visual information, while the highfrequency activity may be related to cognitive processing perhaps the recognition of a landmark as something the bird has seen before. The researchers also observed strong brain activity at two rural locations where there were no significant landmarks. On visiting the two sites, the researchers found that both had colonies of wild pigeons, which was probably what caught the homing pigeons' interest.

Tick Tock: British Airways breaks records for punctuality in May British Airways' punctuality in May has set new records with 87 percent of its flights departing on time. The airlines strong performance built on a good April and busy Easter period when the airline saw more than 85 per cent of flights departing on time. British Airways' operations out of London Gatwick were the best on record for any major carrier with 94 per cent of all flights departing on time in May and 92 percent in April. BA's latest record performance builds on a greatly improved operation throughout the winter as Heathrow's Terminal 5 continues to deliver the very highest levels of customer service. Terminal 5 serviced more than four million customers in April and May

and around 30,000 flights. By having more than 90 per cent of its Heathrow operations in one terminal, British Airways has also been able to improve its baggage performance. The overall number of baggage delayed per 1000 customers in May was reduced to 10. This is down from a peak of 38 delayed bags per 1000 customers in summer 2007. The big majority of delayed bags continue to be transfer bags, which are not delivered on time by other carriers from other terminals at Heathrow in time to meet their onward flights. British Airways direct baggage performance was down to less than 3 delayed bags per 1000 customers in May.

Andy Lord, British Airways' Director of Operations, said: “We have never had such consistently high feedback scores from our customers and our operatio continues to break records on an almost weekly basis. “On many days we now have more than 90 per cent of our 720 daily flights around the world departing on time. “We are achieving these figures despite the fact that our two main UK homes are at the world's busiest dual runway airport and the world's busiest single runway airport. “This puts our operations under more pressure than all of our main European rivals and means that runway and air traffic capacity issues are still the biggest cause of delayed flights.”

No big crush for down-in-the-dumps teen A TEENAGER had a lucky escape after falling asleep in a dumpster and waking up in the crusher jaws of a garbage truck south of Melbourne. The 19-year-old was trapped inside the truck's mechanical compacter early toiday but screams alerted the driver of the truck and he freed the trapped teen. He ended up with broken ribs, though his injuries could could have been worse. A friend, who was also asleep in the dumpster when it was emptied

into the truck about 1.30am (AEST) in Narre Warren North Rd, was not injured. Paramedics arrived at an address in Narre Warren North Rd, in Melbourne's outer southeast, within minutes of receiving the call. Paramedic Andrew Winkler said the men were asleep in the dumpster when it was emptied. "Both were thrown into the back of the garbage truck, and the 19year-old became caught in the mechanical compacter," Winkler said. "Thankfully the truck driver

heard their screams, and checked the back of the truck. He found the man trapped in the compacter and was able to free him." Besides the broken ribs the man suffered cuts, bruising and swelling. He was taken to Dandenong Hospital in a stable condition. " The men are incredibly lucky that the truck driver heard their screams for help over the sound of the garbage compacter," Winkler said.

Stolen snake found after eating a tagged woylie A STOLEN two-metre carpet python has been recovered after authorities homed in on a tracking device attached to an endangered animal which the snake had devoured. The snake was taken from the Western Australian Department of Environment and Conservation's Woodvale Research Centre sometime between June 19 and 22. The python ate the woylie, which is a small mammal, in the wild at Narrogin, complete with transmitter, and was brought to the centre so the tracking device could be removed from the snake. Conservation department officers in a plane yesterday traced the

signal to a house in Heathridge yesterday afternoon. The officers and WA Police recovered the animal. Joondalup Police have charged a 31-yearold Heathridge man with receiving stolen goods. The investigation is ongoing.

The View: Fox Sports provides its take on round 16 of the NRL season Like any week in the life of the NRL premiership, round 16 had offfield drama, on-field heroics, and always something to talk about in between. Dally M Darling(s): One of the big reasons behind the Bulldogs' resurgence this season has been the form of five-eighth Ben Roberts. The 23-year-old has gone from a part-time player at the start of the season to, perhaps, the most vital cog in a Bulldogs attack that currently ranks as the second-best in the NRL. He's not a point-scoring machine but he has quietly emerged as one of the best at setting up tries. One outstanding game against the Broncos certainly swelled his numbers (five tackle busts, six line-break assists and five try assists) but he has been a model of consistency. He turned in another strong effort against the Cowboys on Friday night with eight runs for 116 metres, nine tackle busts, two try assists and three line breaks. His fend to get rid off Johnathan Thurston and set up Josh Morris for the first try is fast becoming a trademark. Roosters fullback Sam Perrett also deserves special mention. Andrew Symonds says he can understand why fans are disappointed Disgraced Australia allrounder Andrew Symonds says he can understand why cricket supporters are disappointed with how his international career ended. Symonds was dumped by Cricket Australia this month after being sent home before the World Twenty20 in England following the latest indiscretion involving the Queenslander and alcohol. But the 34-year-old told the Nine Network's 60 Minutes program on Sunday night he is sympathetic to fans' frustrations he has wasted his talent. "Yeah I can, because I know how desperately I wanted to play for Australia," he said. "Still to this day I realise how lucky I am (to have played for Australia)." Despite the string of off-

field incidents involving alcohol costing Symonds his international career, he denied he was an alcoholic. "I would drink too much, too fast, too quickly," he said. "I admit that too fast, too much became not too good to be around ... aggressive. "I'm not an alcoholic, I've been diagnosed as a binge drinker." It has been widely reported Symonds felt abandoned by cricketing authorities after a run-in with Indian spin bowler Harbhajan Singh during the New Year's Test in Sydney in the summer of 2008. And Symonds admitted he felt "caged-in" as his celebrity grew within the game. "It takes it out of you, a little bit at a time," he said. "Then there's the build-up from that, and then, boom. “I sit back now and I look at it and I think at some point I was

going to blow, I was gonna bust. Whether it was now, or whether it was in two months time." As for his last straw in London, where he broke an agreement not to drink outside the team environment, Symonds said he got caught up watching the rugby league State of Origin opening game between NSW and Queensland. "And for me, with Origin football, comes a few beers."

A CATTLE DOG STORY Kevin Rudd called Julia Gillard into his office one day and said "Julia, I have a great idea! We are going to go all out to win the country voters". "Good idea Great Leader, how will we go about it"? said Julia. "Well", said Rudd, "we get ourselves one of those Driaza Bone coats, some RM Williams boots, a stick and an Akubra hat, Oh, and a blue cattle dog. Then we'll really look the part. We'll go to a typical old outback country pub, we'll show we really enjoy the bush". "Right" said Julia. Days later, all kitted out and with the requisite blue heeler, they set off from Canberra in a westerly direction. Eventually they arrived at just the place they were looking for and found a typical outback pub. They walked in with the dog and up to the bar. "G'day mate", said Rudd to the bartender, "two middies of your best beer". "Good afternoon Great Leader", said the bartender, "two middies of our best coming up". Gillard and Rudd stood leaning on the bar drinking their beer and chatting, nodding now and again to whoever came into the bar for a drink. The dog lay quietly at their feet. All of a sudden, the door from the adjacent bar opened and in came a grizzled old stockman, complete with stock whip. He walked up to the cattle dog, lifted its tail with the whip and looked underneath, shrugged his shoulders and walked back to the other bar. A few moments later in came another old stockman with his whip. He walked up to the dog and lifted its tail, looked underneath, scratched his head and went back to the other bar. Over the course of the next hour or so another four or five stockmen came in and lifted the dog's tail and went away looking puzzled. Eventually, Rudd and Gillard could stand it no longer and called the barman over. "Tell me" said Rudd, "why did all those old stockmen come in and look under the dog's tail like that? Is it an old outback custom?" "Strewth no", said the barman. "Someone told 'em there was a cattle dog in the bar with two arseholes"...........

The ATO decides to audit Grandpa, and summons him to the ATO office. I'm not sure the ATO finds that believable I'm a great gambler, and I can prove it,' says Grandpa. 'How about a demonstration?' The auditor thinks for a moment and said, 'Okay. Go ahead.' Grandpa says, 'I'll bet you a thousand dollars that I can bite my own eye.' The auditor thinks a moment and says, 'It's a bet.' Grandpa removes his glass eye and bites it. The auditor's jaw drops. Grandpa says, 'Now, I'll bet you two thousand dollars that I can bite my other eye.' Now the auditor can tell Grandpa isn't blind, so he takes the bet. Grandpa removes his dentures and bites his good eye. The stunned auditor now realizes he has wagered and lost three grand, with Grandpa's Lawyer as a witness. He starts to get nervous. 'Want to go double or nothing?' Grandpa asks 'I'll bet you six thousand dollars that I can stand on one side of your desk, and pee into that wastebasket on the other side, and never get a drop anywhere in between.' The auditor, twice burned, is cautious now, but he looks carefully and decides there's no way this old guy could possibly manage that stunt, so he agrees again. Grandpa stands beside the desk and unzips his pants, but although he strains mightily. He can't make the stream reach the wastebasket on the other side, so he pretty much urinates all over the auditor's desk. The auditor leaps with joy, realizing that he has just turned a major loss into a huge win. But Grandpa's own attorney moans and puts his head in his hands. 'Are you okay?' the auditor asks. 'Not really,' says the attorney. 'This morning, when Grandpa told me he'd been summoned for an audit, he bet me twenty-five thousand dollars that he could come in here and piss all over your desk and that you'd be happy about it!'

Suteja views as unfair the disproportionate amount of focus being placed on Waterbom in the current situation, calling on authorities to check on all legal and illegal ground wells in use in the Kuta area. The Park also pointed to the failure of the government to make city water available to the very heavily populated area of Kuta as the real underlying cause for any overuse of ground water.
