TEACHER & EDUCATION Kothari Commission “ Of all the different factors which influence the quality of education and its contribution to national development, the quality, competence and character of the teacher are undoubtedly the most significant. NPE (1986) States “ Status of the teacher reflects the socio – cultural ethos of society and no people can raise above the level of its teacher”.

A teacher needs to be aware of 1) Rapid cultural & social changes 2) Advancement in educational theories 3) Methodologies and practices 4) Increase in abilities & range of student interests 5) Advancement in science & technology Enhancing the quality of teachers through 1) Teacher training curriculum 2) Proper recruitment 3) Teacher evaluation – for promotion 4) Operate personnel management system for teachers.
