Planning process The planning process includes deciding your criteria for selecting a university. When you know the important criteria, you will be able to reduce the many alternatives to a few, so you can be more effective gathering information about individual universities. Usually, the most frequently asked questions about universities are about: a. b. c. d. e. f.

2. Choosing the University Once you select the criteria important to you, develop a matrix as described on the next page. Then, read the catalogs (available in the Information Room or Library) and ask the IBMT staff to help you fill in the columns in the matrix. When you finish with your matrix you will get a selection of universities that match your criteria. College catalogs and other materials such as the student newspapers, the college brochures, and the software College Explorer are great resources for getting detailed information about your choices of universities. You can write to those universities if you think you need additional information. Transfer Requirements and Curriculum Information regarding transfer requirements and the curriculum of study is very crucial in applying for transfer. Read the information thoroughly in the catalogs. Knowing the transfer requirements and the curriculum will help you to prepare yourself before you apply to those universities. For example, you will need to have a TOEFL score of 550 and cumulative GPA of 3.00 when you apply to transfer to the University of Oklahoma. If you haven’t reached these requirements, then you will need to develop an action plan to reach them before the application deadline. The major curriculum of the university is also something else you need to consider. If you know which university you want to transfer to, then you can maximize the number of possible credits transferred by taking IBMT courses similar in nature with the courses offered in your chosen university. 3. Applying to College After you decide the universities to apply to, IBMT will help you in the application process. Refer to the Transfer Students Handbook for more information. 4. Preparation to Study Abroad Once you are admitted to a university, the next step is to get ready to go to the overseas universities. Detailed information on this process is in the Transfer Students Handbook.
