1 March 2009 Dear Favaro Scholarship Candidate. The Bernard Favaro Family and The Vallejo Aquatic Club are proud to invite you to apply for the 11th Annual Jeanne Roberts Favaro Memorial Scholarship. Jeanne R. Favaro was a long time resident of Vallejo and an avid participant in and supporter of swimming in our area. Jeanne was active in swimming on both the local and national level and was one of the founders of the Vallejo Aquatic Club. In addition, Jeanne made a lifelong commitment to excellence in academics. To honor Jeanne’s memory, The Jeanne R. Favaro Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating high school student who will be attending college. The scholarship is awarded annually to the applicant who best exemplifies Jeanne’s commitment to excellence in academics and competitive swimming. The scholarship will carry a minimum award of $1,000 to the winner. There may be also additional awards given to other worthy applicants. The scholarship candidate must meet the following eligibility criteria: 1) The candidate must be graduating this Spring and attending college this Fall. 2) The candidate must meet at least one of the following swimming criteria: -be a current member of a high school swim team in the city of Vallejo OR -be a current member of the Vallejo Aquatic Club The Scholarship Committee will consider the following: Candidate’s high school GPA, a letter of recommendation from the candidate’s high school or U.S.S. swim coach, a letter of recommendation from the candidate’s high school counselor or from one of the candidate’s high school teachers, the candidate’s extra curricular portfolio, the candidate’s achievements in swimming and academics, and the candidates essay (see attached). If you are interested, please hurry! Our deadline for submission of this application is April 24, 2009 postmark. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. We plan on presenting the award winner during the Vallejo Aquatic Club swim meet May 1-3, 2009.
