KIPP Pride High School

College Counselor The KPHS College Counselor is responsible for supporting the college counseling program. The College Counselor will uphold the KIPP Gaston College Prep and KIPP Pride High School mission statements by continuing to develop and maintain a college counseling program that will foster growth in student academic knowledge, interpersonal skills, college readiness skills, and character. It is the ultimate goal of the college counseling department at KPHS, through guidance and education, to ensure that all KPHS graduates have the ability to maintain success in their academic, professional and personal lives through attending and graduating from a four year college or university. Duties and Responsibilities 1) Advise and guide seniors through all aspects of the college application process. 2) Teach a junior seminar class once per week that supports the college placement counseling process and meet individually with juniors in the spring to start the counseling process. 3) Establish and maintain relationships/partnerships with colleges, universities, outreach and scholarship programs. 4) Actively research all aspects of college placement: financial aid, scholarships, applications, and standards. 5) Support the testing plan and implementation of standardized tests- PSAT, SAT, PLAN and AP exams. 6) Assist with college visits, which are occasionally on weekends. 7) Meet with college admissions staff when they come on campus and assist with college events. 8) Assist students with applications for summer programs. 9) Be responsible for data management in the Naviance college tracking system. 10) Serve as a member of the junior grade level team to ensure that all students in the school have the opportunity to participate in college planning activities. 11) Assist Counseling Department with projects as they arise. Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four year educational institution, Master’s Degree preferred but not required. Experience: • Prior experience working with high school students and families and/or college admissions field.

Strong working knowledge in Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. • Previous experience with Naviance college tracking system preferred. Skills: • Ability to work with faculty, families, students, and college admissions staff. • Possess strong analytical and communication skills. • Strong attention to detail • Fast learner with the ability to inquire and be open to feedback • Ability to work in fast paced environment that is deadline driven
