Housing & Financial Counselor Organizational Background: Founded in 1995, East LA Community Corporation (ELACC) mission is to advocate for economic and social justice in Boyle Heights and Unincorporated East Los Angeles by building grassroots leadership, self-sufficiency and access to economic development opportunities for low and moderate income families and to use its development expertise to strengthen existing community infrastructure in communities of color by developing and persevering neighborhood assets. Housing Counselor: The ideal candidate will have experience and training in homebuyer education, housing and financial counseling, case management, and financial education, and a familiarity with conventional lenders and their mortgage products. Must be bilingual in English and Spanish and have excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office programs and the internet. Qualifications: The Housing Counselor will have: ability to coordinate and teach homebuyer, financial, and foreclosure education workshops; excellent case management skills; ability to speak, read, and write fluent Spanish and work with monolingual Spanish speaking clients ability to work with clients in an individual and small group basis; excellent customer service skills; professional demeanor and networking skills; computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Internet; excellent written and oral presentation skills; ability to manage time effectively; ability to work independently, without close supervision; ability to meet aggressive goals for the homebuyer, financial literacy, and foreclosure prevention programs ability to manage a large and diverse pool of clients at different stages of the home buying and foreclosure process; Bachelors Degree preferred; At least one year of experience in housing counseling and/or knowledge of the financial sector Have reliable transportation; Be available to work weekends and evenings as needed. Duties: Implementation of ELACC’s Homebuyer, Financial Literacy, Foreclosure Prevention and IDA programs, a comprehensive program targeted at low to moderate income residents of Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles with the goal of assisting underserved, mostly monolingual populations to enter the financial mainstream through homeownership and financial education and the preservation of those assets. The Housing Counselor will be responsible for planning and facilitating first-time homebuyer workshops, financial literacy workshops, foreclosure prevention clinics, pre-purchase and foreclosure prevention counseling, and assisting with the IDA, and Ramp Up programs. Additionally, the counselor will market all ELACC housing counseling and financial programs throughout ELACC’s target area. Compensation: This is a full-time position with benefits.
