ENG’G becomes new men’s chess title holder CBA woodpushers retain women’s chess title By Aries D. Cariño

College of Engineering turned out as the new kings of men’s chess competitions while College of Business and Accountancy prevented its title from being snatched in women’s chess contests in the

two-day board game event at the College Library on Jan. 22-23. In men’s chess, ENG’G garnered 13.5 total board points while CBA failed to regain its title as the defending champ, moving backward to second place with 12.5 followed by

BSN (7.5), CAS (3.5) and EDUC (3) for third to fifth place, respectively. In women’s contests, CBA pushed its luck by winning a total of 14 points followed by BSN (10), CAS (7), ENG’G (7) and EDUC (2) for third to fifth place,

respectively. Friday Lanley Solinap of the College of Business and Accountancy and Marianne Arane Chua of the College of Nursing were named as the most outstanding players for men’s and women’s categories, respectively.

CBA unstoppable, ENG’G still zero in women football By Allen Gabriel M. Iñigo

The College of Business and Accountancy is going on pretty strong wiping out every team blocking their way but the opposite goes for the College of Engineering as they got wiped out by both the College of Nursing and the College of Arts and Science respectively in Day 3 of the women’s football tournament. The yellow bright CBA was striving on the first half of its game against the Artians but regained hold on the game as they clobbered CAS, 1-0, for them to slate another victory. CAS team captain Shanleigh Jalea faltered and got injured in the middle of the second

half of the match that pulled her out of the rest of the game. CBA didn’t stop from their previous game against the CAS and still showed superiority against EDUC, 2-1, to add another step to their stairs to championship. “We are confident that we’re going to make it to the top. Most of the players in our team are graduating and I’m pretty sure that they’ll be giving their best since this is their last to play for the team,” CBA team captain Patricia Paula Alonso said. The ENG’G team could not seem to stand up to its ‘Orange Warrior’ title as it got crushed by Nursing on its first game for today, 2-0.

CBA working for its lost yesterday, ENG’G, BSN tied in men’s football By Allen Gabriel M. Iñigo

Just as promised yesterday, the College of Business and Accountancy is recovering from its loss yesterday against the College of Nursing and has worked far enough to snitch two victory today. It was a walk in the park for the yellow bright CBA as they crushed the all-sotough College of Arts and Science, 13-1, to shine out their strength early this morning. It was an easy victory for the CBA, which was expected from their 6-0 lead

in the first half of the game. The game against the EDUC was finished in a nick of time by the CBA as they won game 8 by default. The EDUC team never showed up this noon sans any reason at all which led to their technical defeat. Meanwhile, the Nursing team, gaining ground from their win against CBA yesterday was arranged to meet against the Orange Warriors. The match-up led to a draw leaving no points for both team. It was a hard start for both teams since none of them were show-

ing any form of weakness and were both determined to fight till the end making it impossible for any of team to strike any goal leading to a 0-0 end. Engineering player number 8 Delman Alagao made quite a show in the last few minutes of the second half which led to a red card due to what referees referred to as “dangerous play”.

BSN’s been driving the game from the very start and a little confusion from the orange team during the first half gave way to BSN’s first goal. The Red Phoenix, not satisfied with its current score, gave its final effort during the last minute of the game to click the score board to a 2-0 finish. ENG’G, not fully recovered from the previous game, has received another zero during their game against CAS which pulled a mysterious one point finish today. Despite the little injury from the previous game, CAS team captain Jalea made a goal from a penalty kick to put them in the safe zone and eventually gave way to their win.
