Intro to Nets For Students Grade PK-2 A Closer Look At Some Actual Performance Indicators By: Jill Edmonson

1. Illustrate & communicate original ideas & stories using digital tools & media-rich resources (1,2) ✏

I think it would be a great idea for students to create their own stories about what they did over the summer by using Toondoo, which is a comic creating tool that allows students to create their own comic strips.

Students could share their completed summer story comic strips by either posting it to Toondoo or printing it out to pass out to other students.

7. Demonstrate the safe & cooperative use of technology (6) ✏

A great way for students to learn a safe and cooperative use of technology is by using Ning which is a social networking website similar to Facebook. The teacher would create and control the classroom social network and students would join.

Students would utilize Ning to communicate with one another through wall postings and would be graded on their use of netiquette at the end of the year. Students would also communicate with the teacher regarding assignments posted to the class Ning group.

10. Demonstrate the ability to navigate in virtual environments such as electronic books, simulation software, and Websites. (5) ✏

A fun way for students to learn how to read an electronic book would be to provide them with a link to one during class as well as a link to wordle.

The students would also be given a series of questions about the electronic book and would enter the answers to those questions into wordle afterwards. The students would then post the wordle cloud to their Ning account.

5. Find and evaluate information related to a current or historical person or event using digital resources. (3) ✏

Students would be assigned a President and would be tasked with finding who they were, what they did, when the did it and why the did it using Wikipedia. They would also be asked to find a little know fact about the president by using the PBS history section for kids.

Students would then type the answers about their president as well as what they liked about their assigned president and submit their findings to the teacher by using the classroom social networking group on Ning.
