ISTE - NETS for Students Grades 9-12
Bryan Meyer
Select digital tools or resources to use for a real-world task and justify the selection based on their efficiency and effectiveness. (3, 6)
I think it would be fun for students to use Excel to look at and/or
create income statements from major local companies. This would allow them to see how math applies to real-life and how technology can make that application easier.
Identify a complex global issue, develop a systematic plan of investigation, and present innovative sustainable solutions. (1, 2, 3, 4)
With so many global issues effecting our sustainability, I felt this
was particularly important. There are often statistics involved in researching such issues, which connects the assignment to math. I would have each student research the issue of their choice and use technology to have them present to the rest of the class.
Design, develop, and test a digital learning game to demonstrate knowledge and skills related to curriculum content. (1, 4)
I could use this requirement to have students create their own
technology-based midterm review games. Then other students in the class can use the games that have been created to study for tests.
Employ curriculum-specific simulations to practice critical-thinking processes. (1, 4)
I would like to put together a DaVinci Code-esque clue hunt in
which students will have to solve clues (delivered to them periodically by email) in order to continue moving through the quest in search of the final prize.
