Are rocks conscious? Do animals or plants have souls? Can trees feel pleasure or pain? Where in the great unfolding of life did consciousness first appear? How we answer such questions can dramatically affect the way we live our lives, how we treat the world of nature, and even how we relate to our own bodies. In this new edition of the award-winning Radical Nature, Christian de Quincey explores the “hard problem” of philosophy—how mind and matter are related—and proposes a radical and surprising answer: that matter itself tingles with consciousness at the deepest level. It’s there in the cells of every living creature, even in molecules and atoms. Tracing the lineage of this idea through Western philosophy and science, he shows that it has a very noble history—from before Plato to Alfred North Whitehead. He reveals that the way to God is through nature and that understanding how body and soul fit together has surprising consequences for our relationships with our environment, with other people, and even with ourselves. Christian de Quincey, Ph.D., is a professor of philosophy and consciousness studies at John F. Kennedy University, dean of consciousness studies at the University of Philosophical Research, founder of The Wisdom Academy, and an international speaker on consciousness, cosmology, and spirituality. He is the author of Radical Knowing, Consciousness from Zombies to Angels, and a novel, Deep Spirit. He lives in California.

Rumi’s Four Essential Practices Ecstatic Body, Awakened Soul Will Johnson Poems and commentary that open the door for a new generation to experience the ecstatic and embodied spiritual truths contained in Rumi’s poetry • Reveals how the four practices of eating lightly, breathing deeply, moving freely, and gazing intently can invoke the divinity within us all • Explains how these practices dissolve the self’s need for identity so that we may experience a state of transcendent ecstasy and union with the divine • Takes Rumi’s path to finding God from theoretical to embodied practices
The great thirteenth-century Sufi mystic and poet Jalaluddin Rumi began his life as an orthodox Islamic believer but felt that to fully experience complete union with the divine he must abandon institutionalized religion and its prescribed forms of worship. Surrendering his will to his overriding urge for a much more immediate, intuitive, and compelling union with the divine, he found that by manipulating certain behavioral aspects of his physiology—eating lightly, breathing deeply, moving freely, and gazing raptly—he was capable of loosening the rigid confines of the self, thereby overriding its limitations and achieving a transcendent merging with his own divinity. His message is simple: if you wish to affect the spirit, you must first make changes in the way your body responds to the world. Through clearly written commentary interspersed with Rumi’s beautiful poems, this book details these four practices in a very precise way. As such, it is a sweet and open invitation to follow the examples set forth in order to embark upon one’s own path of inner illumination. The freshness of Rumi’s poetry dissolves the 700 years that separate his life from our own time, making his message as pertinent today as when he walked the streets of Konya, Anatolia (present-day Turkey), reciting his inspiring verse. This book allows us, through Rumi’s gentle guidance, to touch the face of God that resides deep within us all. As such, it is a sweet and open invitation to follow the poet’s example in order to embark upon one’s own path of inner illumination.

Haitian Vodou is a very practical and scientific craft: either you please the spirits and get results or you don’t—often for good reason. The lwa—the spirits honored in Haitian Vodou—know that it is far more useful to find out exactly what is causing your money woes rather than receiving a quick fix. In Vodou Money Magic, Kenaz Filan offers a path to long-lasting and pervasive changes in your financial situation. Filan describes the lwa who govern financial matters and explains what services each can provide in attaining wealth or finding a fulfilling career—and who will likely offer the best wisdom for your needs. If you are having trouble finding a job, Legba’s Perusing the Want Ads spell can resolve this difficulty. If you wish to curb impulse spending, then you should work with the Great Serpent Damballah. If you need emergency financial assistance, Mama Danto is there to help. Filan presents easy-to-follow instructions for numerous financial spells and also reveals how the lwa offer counsel for family burdens, getting along with coworkers, and planning your future. Kenaz Filan (Houngan Coquille du Mer) was initiated into Société la Belle Venus in March 2003 after 10 years of solitary service to the Haitian Vodou lwa. The Secret History of Vampires Their Multiple Forms and Hidden Purposes Claude Lecouteux A look at the forgotten ancestors of the modern-day vampire, many of which have very different characteristics • Looks at the many ancestoral forms of the modern vampire, including shroud eaters, appesarts, and stafi • Presents evidence for the reality of this phenomenon from pre19th-century newspaper articles and judicial records
Of all forms taken by the undead, the vampire wields the most powerful pull on the modern imagination. But the countless movies and books inspired by this child of the night who has a predilection for human blood are based on incidents recorded as fact in newspapers and judicial archives in the centuries preceding the works of Bram Stoker and other writers. Digging through these forgotten records, Claude Lecouteux unearths a very different figure of the vampire in the many accounts of individuals who reportedly would return from their graves to attack the living. These ancestors of the modern vampire were not all blood suckers; they included shroud eaters, appesarts, nightmares, and the curious figure of the stafia, whose origin is a result of masons secretly interring the shadow of a living human being in the wall of a building under construction. As Lecouteux shows, the belief in vampires predates ancient Roman times, which abounded with lamia, stirges, and ghouls. Discarding the tacked together explanations of modern science for these inexplicable phenomena, the author looks back to another folk belief that has come down through the centuries like that of the undead: the existence of multiple souls in every individual, not all of which are able to move on to the next world after death.

Never conquered by Europeans, the Huichol—known for their use of peyote in spiritual ceremonies—have thoroughly retained their ancient way of life. Growing from a deeply rooted respect and reverence for the natural world, the Huichol’s shamanic spiritual practices focus on living life in harmony with all living things and offer a path to a truly sustainable future. The Shamanic Wisdom of the Huichol is the autobiographical account of Pinkson’s decade-long immersion in the shamanic traditions of the Huichol tribes of the Sierra Madre in Mexico. From his first Huichol pilgrimage to Wiricuta (their sacred homeland) in 1981 to searching the desert for the heart medicine of peyote, Pinkson’s account of his initiation into the medicine teachings of the Huichol brings new life to this ancient eco-centric tradition. Providing a guiding light for those who seek to become part of the solution to our planet’s ecological challenges, Pinkson empowers readers to choose their own path toward healing both on a personal and a planetary level. Tom Soloway Pinkson, Ph.D., is a psychologist, ceremonial retreat and vision-fast leader, sacred storyteller, and shaman. For 32 years he worked with terminally ill children at the Center for Attitudinal Healing in California, successfully integrating the wisdom teachings of the Huichol and other medicine teachers into the world of the practicing psychologist through his programs of Training the Hardiness Factor and A New Vision of Aging—Working Consciously with the Challenges and Opportunities of the Elder Years. Salvia Divinorum Doorway to Thought-Free Awareness J. D. Arthur One man’s personal journey through the unparalleled trance states of salvia • Contains real-life descriptions of salvia-induced visionary experiences • Offers guidance for the responsible use of this psychoactive plant • Explores the shamanic awareness associated with salvia
Salvia divinorum, which recently entered the visionary pharmacopoeia of the modern world, has been used for centuries in the shamanic practices of the Mazatec Indians of Oaxaca, Mexico, for healing and divination. A member of the Mint family, Salvia divinorum—“diviner’s sage”—offers a new doorway to the visionary pursuit of higher spiritual and meditative states. With repeated sessions using salvia over the course of several years, J. D. Arthur began returning each time to the same inner landscape where he found himself entering a unique state of thought-free, or “thoughtless,” awareness. There he accessed a mode of “dream language” that communicated an exquisite constellation of detailed meanings swiftly and flawlessly. His repeated immersion in these states of trance, as well as his analysis of their approach and withdrawal, led to a profound reassessment of the nature of normal perception and a reevaluation of what we refer to as the real world. With true-life descriptions of salvia-induced visionary states, this book offers a detailed experiential analysis for those interested in exploring salvia in their quest for higher knowledge.

Lingam is the Sanskrit word for the male generative organ, the penis. In India, the lingam is revered as an expression of Shiva’s clarity, symbolizing the fine sword that differentiates between truth and falsehood. The goal of a lingam massage is to provide a man conscious, loving contact with his own masculinity. Western cultural expectations around sexual “performance” have created sexual difficulties for many men, including erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation. Through loving touch, lingam massage provides the deep relaxation that supports sustained erection, putting a man in touch with less familiar aspects of his sexuality, including the energetic responses of his perineum, prostate gland, and anus. Lingam massage is not simply a hands-on technique but involves the conscious direction of energy throughout the body. It allows men to savor longer, deeper orgasms and teaches taoist and tantric practices for conserving sexual energy. Over time, as his consciousness deepens, these practices give a man complete control over his ejaculation. Michaela Riedl studied tantric massage at the Diamond Lotus Institute in Berlin and then refined the yoni and lingam massage techniques developed by Annie Sprinkle and Joseph Kramer, founder of the Erospirit Research Institute in California. She directs the AnandaWave Massage Center in Cologne, Germany, and is the author of Yoni Massage. Jürgen Becker gained a completely new level of sexual consciousness by participating in a lingam-yoni massage group led by Michaela Riedl. Inspired to share his experiences he suggested to Michaela that they write this book together. He runs a sexual counseling practice with his partner near Munich.

The Art of Cosmic Vision Practices for Improving Your Eyesight Mantak Chia and Robert T. Lewanski How to achieve perfect vision naturally through proven eyetraining methods • Explains how vision problems are related to imbalances in the internal organs • Provides Taoist and Ayurvedic practices for harmonizing the liver and kidneys, the organs directly associated with eye problems
In the West, problems with eyesight are treated separately from overall health, usually with prescription glasses or contact lenses. But Eastern systems of holistic healing view the eyes as mirrors of physical health. Eye problems reflect problems with the internal organs, most specifically the liver and kidneys. The Art of Cosmic Vision offers Taoist healing sound exercises for strengthening the liver and kidneys as well as seven internal Chi Kung exercises and Dao-Yin self-massage practices for toning the organ meridians. It also provides extensive dietary recommendations, including a complete Ayurvedic analysis of the three main nutritional body types. The wide variety of eye-strengthening exercises in The Art of Cosmic Vision includes the Egyptian Black Dot technique, the Taoist Long Swing technique, the Tai Chi Rocker Eye technique, and relaxing Yoga Eye Palming techniques. Rather than viewing the ciliary muscle within the eye as the only muscle responsible for focus, these exercises improve focus by training all of the muscles surrounding the eyes. With attention to improved diet, physical exercise, and these proven eye-training techniques, readers can restore their vision to vibrant health.

“This book will entertain and enlighten you. A bold journey that explores the true intersections of Eastern and Western thought.” —Deepak Chopra, author of The Book of Secrets
“Rampuri’s search has carried him into the very depths of one of the great ancient wisdom lineages of India. He has gone where very few Westerners have gone.”
After traveling at age 18 from his native California to India in 1969, Rampuri was drawn to the Naga Babas, an ancient and wild order of naked yogis whom he calls the “Hell’s Angels of Indian Spirituality.” Organized into a sect by Adi Shankara in the 5th century BC, the Naga Babas see themselves as the ultimate protectors of the Sanatan Dharma, or what we call the Hindu religion. Rampuri became a disciple of a Naga Baba—a master shaman sadhu—from Rajasthan and, as foretold by astrological prophecy, soon found himself the first foreigner to become an initiate of the Juna Akhara, the oldest and largest grouping of Naga Babas with more than 50,000 sadhu members. From drinking the “Nectar of Immortality” at the source of the Ganges River to allegations of tantric murder, this autobiography is filled with true accounts of magic, miracles, ghosts, and austerities, with lessons on Hindu gods, ayurveda, mantra, and Indian culture woven throughout. Through his journey of extremes, Rampuri takes us into the mystic heart of India. Rampuri is the first foreigner to be initiated into the ancient society of yogis and shamans known as the Renunciates of the Ten Names, or Sannyasis. He has been a Naga Baba since 1970. A yogi and teacher who gives workshops and retreats around the world, he established the Hari Puri Ashram, in Hardwar in northern India in 1984, where he continues the oral tradition of his lineage. In 2004 he was admitted to the Council of Elders of Datt Akhara in Ujjain, India. He lives in India.

Atlantis and 2012 The Science of the Lost Civilization and the Prophecies of the Maya Frank Joseph Traces Maya astronomy back to Atlantis • Shows that the Mayan Calendar was brought to Mexico by survivors of Atlantis • Correlates scientific studies with the Mayan Calendar to reveal that 2012 could be the start of a new ice age • Reveals the link between Atlantis and Lemuria discovered by Edgar Cayce
Based on more than 25 years of research around the globe and statements from Edgar Cayce about Atlantis and its Pacific sister civilization of Lemuria, Frank Joseph reveals that the Mayan Calendar was brought to Mexico by survivors of Atlantis. Uncovering the Atlantean influences in both ancient Mesoamerican culture and ancient Egyptian culture, he links the demise of Atlantis with the birth of the Olmec civilization in Mexico (the progenitors of the Maya), the beginning of the first Egyptian dynasty, and the start of the Mayan Calendar. Joseph explains that the Mayan Calendar was invented by the combined genius of Atlantis and Lemuria and describes how it predicts an eternal cycle of global creation, destruction, and renewal. Correlating this recurring cycle with scientific studies on glacial ice cores and predictions from the Hopi, the Incas, and the Scandinavian Norse, Joseph reveals that 2012 could be the start of a new ice age and the advent of a massive solar storm. However, Joseph shows that the Maya knew the way to reestablish civilization’s cosmic balance before time runs out.

The use of honey as a healing agent is nothing new. It was an ingredient in medicinal compounds and cures made by Egyptian physicians 5,000 years ago, and its medical use has been found in other ancient practices from traditional Chinese medicine and Indian Ayurveda to Mayan shamanism. In the past ten years there has been an explosion in scientific research on honey as medicine at universities, research centers, and medical clinics around the world. Presenting the very latest scientific and medical evidence of the healing properties of honey—including that from the Honey Research Unit at the University of Waikato in New Zealand—Nathaniel Altman explores the broad spectrum of medicinal uses of honey and how these remedies can be used safely at home as well as by licensed health practitioners. He includes an extensive selection of honey-based recipes that can be used to treat common health problems—from burns, conjuctivitis, and ulcers to tooth decay, diabetes, and cystic fibrosis. He explains the physiological reasons why honey is so effective in treating antibiotic-resistant diseases with no side effects and honey’s ability to kill “superbugs” like E. coli and MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus). Drawing on centuries of material from historical and folk medicine sources, he also examines the sacred role of bees from ancient Egypt onward and the modern problem of Colony Collapse Disorder, including methods for protecting our precious hives. Nathaniel Altman is a medical writer and researcher who has written more than 15 books on alternative healing, including The Oxygen Prescription, Healing Springs, and A Russian Herbal. He lives in Brooklyn, New York.

Psychic Communication with Animals for Health and Healing Laila del Monte The transformation and insights of an acclaimed flamenco dancer turned world-renowned animal communicator and healer • Presents powerful case histories of animals with whom she communicated and treated • Offers instruction on how to establish communication with animals
When Laila del Monte was a child growing up on the Balearic island of Formentera, she experienced a special bond with the animals that were a part of her life. Later, as she became entirely focused on her career as a flamenco dancer, she resisted those who told her that her true vocation was as a healer. But when her own health challenges jeopardized her dancing career, the healing energies she received from both her human and animal teachers raised her consciousness about the important insights animals have to offer on the state of our physical and emotional well-being. In this book Laila del Monte reveals how the unconditionally loving nature of animals very often leads them to take on the physical pains and negative emotional experiences of the human beings in their lives. The animals absorb negative emotions such as guilt, anger, jealousy, and other issues that stop people from moving forward and reflect these back in their animal behavior. Through her work with countless animals suffering from behavioral disorders or who have been sick or injured, del Monte learned that the physical healing of the animals is directly tied to the emotional healing of the people they are close to. The stories and situations she shares in this book demonstrate that learning what animals have to teach us about our lives does not require any magical formula or laborious training—it is part of our natural birthright. We need only to revive our own deep intuition to restore this connection. Judy Graham is an inspiration. Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis when she was just 26 years old, 35 years later Judy Graham is still walking, working, and has successfully birthed and raised a son who is now an adult. In this totally revised and updated edition of her groundbreaking Multiple Sclerosis, first published in 1984, she shares the natural treatments that have helped her and many others with MS stabilize or even reverse the condition. Beginning with the effects of diet, she explains that many people with MS have been eating the wrong foods and shows which foods are “good” and “bad,” how to recognize food sensitivities, and how to correct nutritional deficiencies using dietary supplements. She also looks at reducing the body’s toxic overload, whether from mercury amalgam fillings, chemicals, or medications. She presents the exercises with proven benefits for MS she has found most reliable and appropriate, such as yoga, pilates, and t’ai chi, and explores alternative therapies that provide relief and support to the body’s efforts to control MS, including acupuncture, reflexology, shiatsu, reiki, and ayurveda. Most important are the insights she provides on the effects of negative thoughts on MS. She demonstrates how a positive mental attitude can actually slow down or even reverse the progression of this disease. Judy Graham is living proof that, as devastating as a diagnosis of MS is, life can still be lived to its fullest. Judy Graham is the editor of New Pathways, a magazine for people with MS, has worked as a TV producer for the BBC and other UK channels, and has written for many newspapers and magazines. She is the author of six books, including Multiple Sclerosis and Having a Baby, and lives in London.

The Healing Power of Energized Water The New Science of Potentizing the World’s Most Vital Resource Ulrich Holst An introduction to the biotechnologies of water vitalization • Reveals the deeper secrets of the element water including its memory • Shows the practical applications founded on the work of such pioneers of water research as Viktor Schauberger, Theodor Schwenk, and Masaru Emoto • Looks at water dynamization devices currently available commercially
Water is more than the simple liquid evoked by its scientific name H2O. The discoveries by pioneering figures like Viktor Schauberger and Masaru Emoto have shown that this essential substance is much more complex than originally believed. Water is incredibly sensitive to the micro-information from the surrounding environment and it also possesses a memory. Unfortunately, many of the modern techniques for making water readily available have resulted in depreciating its vitality. Many of the benefits that water can provide when in its optimum natural state have been lost. But there are now methods that have been perfected over the past several decades that can transform our banal tap water back to its natural potent state as the elixir of life. Experience has shown that these methods and devices can even transform water that has been heavily polluted by agriculture or industry into a potable fluid that looks like the product of a limpid mountain spring. Tests show that no trace of the pollutants remain. Many of these devices are available commercially, offering to all the possibility of enjoying the optimum benefits water can deliver when in its healthy, natural state.

Best known for his role in the Ramayana, Hanuman’s playful nature, amazing physical powers, and selfless devotion to Lord Rama have made him one of the most beloved gods in the Hindu pantheon. As a monkey, he symbolizes the ever-restless human mind. He teaches us that, though everyone is born an animal, anyone can attain the heights of spiritual evolution through perseverance and ardent discipline. Having perfected his mind through bhakti (selfless devotion) to obtain his powers, Hanuman embodies the highest potential we can achieve. In this book, Vanamali recounts 36 legendary Hanuman stories—from his birth to his adventures in the Ramayana—and reveals the spiritual lessons, yogic practices, and Vedic astrology aspects they contain. Vanamali shows how Hanuman has the ability to bestow selfless devotion and strength to his devotees and that following his example is the surest path to attracting the blessing of Rama. Mataji Devi Vanamali has written seven books on the gods of the Hindu pantheon, including Shakti, The Play of God, and The Song of Rama, as well as translating the Bhagavad Gita. She is the founder and president of Vanamali Gita Yoga Ashram Trust, dedicated to sharing the wisdom of Sanatana Dharma and charitable service to children. Shamanic Egyptian Astrology Your Planetary Relationship to the Gods Linda Star Wolf and Ruby Falconer Integrates the Egyptian pantheon, the ancient language of astrology, and shamanic practices • Links each of the planets and signs in Western astrology with its Egyptian counterpart, such as Leo with Anubis • Includes sacred invocations and shamanic rituals to invite the wisdom of each Egyptian deity into your life • Offers a shamanic way to interpret natal horoscopes
Shamanic Egyptian Astrology integrates the Egyptian pantheon, the ancient language of astrology, and shamanic practices to promote a new way to interpret and work with natal charts. Revealing the cross-cultural mythology and astrological significance of the individual Egyptian gods and goddesses, the authors link each of the 12 zodiac signs and 11 celestial bodies of Western astrology with its Egyptian ancestor, introducing new significance to their positions and interactions in a horoscope. For example, Leo is linked with Anubis and Taurus with Hathor. Venus is associated with the goddess Isis and Jupiter with Horus. Each chapter includes sacred invocations and shamanic rituals to invite the wisdom of each Egyptian deity into your life—such as calling on Sekhmet for action or Thoth for clarity. With sample interpretations of the charts of Barack Obama and Gloria Steinem, this book provides a practical framework for accessing the wisdom of ancient Egypt and offers astrological and shamanic tools for spiritual guidance and the coming shift in planetary consciousness.

Ancient Egypt 39,000 BCE The History, Technology, and Philosophy of Civilization X Edward F. Malkowski A view into the sophisticated and highly advanced civilization that preceded the world of the pharaohs • Presents historical evidence of the civilization ruled by the “gods” that the Egyptians claimed preceded their own • Explains who these prehistoric people were, what happened to them, and why they built a series of pyramids along the west bank of the Nile River
June 2010 Bear & Company ISBN 978-1-59143-109-1 $24.00 (CAN $29.95) Paper 336 pages, 6 x 9 Includes 16-page color insert and 145 black-and-white illustrations Rights: World Egyptology/History
Traditional Egyptologists have long resisted the notion that the architectural achievements of the Ancient Egyptians required the existence of a much more sophisticated technology than would have existed at that time. Yet, no records exist explaining how, why, or who built Egypt’s megalithic monuments and statues. The ancient Egyptians did, however, record that their civilization resided in the shadow of a kingdom of “gods” whose reign ended many thousands of years before their first dynasty. What was this Civilization X that antiquity’s most accomplished people revered as gods? The recent discovery of a large stone at one of Egypt’s oldest ruins presents physical evidence that clearly and distinctly shows the markings of a machining process far beyond the capabilities of the Ancient Egyptians. Likewise, experimental modeling of the Great Pyramid’s subterranean chambers and passageways gives scientific evidence to further support the theory that the civilization responsible for such magnificent monuments is much older than presently believed. Ancient Egypt 39,000 BCE examines this evidence from historical and technical points of view, explaining who these prehistoric people were, what happened to them, why they built their civilization out of granite, and why they built a series of pyramids along the west bank of the Nile River. Edward F. Malkowski is the author of Before the Pharaohs, The Spiritual Technology of Ancient Egypt, and Sons of God—Daughters of Men. He is a historical researcher and lives in Champaign, Illinois.

The Crazy Wisdom of Ganesh Baba Psychedelic Sadhana, Kriya Yoga, Kundalini, and the Cosmic Energy in Man Eve Baumohl Neuhaus The core teachings and riotous life of the psychedelic yogi Ganesh Baba • Presents the teachings of Ganesh Baba’s “Crea” Yoga, which he derived from the tantric practices of traditional Kriya Yoga • Explains the basic exercises for following the Crea (creative) Yoga practice • Includes many anecdotes from the colorful life of this “psychedelic” baba
Shri Mahant Swami Ganeshanand Saraswati Giri (ca. 1895–1988) was known to all who loved and studied with him simply as Ganesh Baba. At the age of four, he was brought back from death through an initiation by Lahiri Mahasaya and through this initiation descends from the same Kriya Yoga lineage as Paramahansa Yogananda. He became a swami under his guru Sivananda and later went on to run the Anandamayi Ma ashram. Drawn to the life of the Naga Babas, he became the head of the Ananda Acharya, Naga followers of Lord Shiva who consider cannabis and other entheogens to be the gift of the gods. The unique set of principles and exercises Ganesh Baba developed from the tantric practices of traditional Kriya Yoga and Shivaism became the core of his personal teachings of Crea (for creative) Yoga. Ganesh Baba’s message of systematic synthesis of the spiritual and secular was carefully developed for and embraced by contemporary students in the 1960s, especially those whose path included the use of entheogens. This book contains the core of Ganesh Baba’s Crea Yoga teachings, from the beginning stages of conscious control of one’s posture, breath, and attention to finally extending one’s awareness to the farthest reaches of the cosmos. Eve Baumohl Neuhaus shows that the life of this scholar and crazy saint was as instructive as his teachings. She includes many personal reminiscences of this inspirational and challenging teacher from her own life and those of fellow students, which demonstrate that Ganesh Baba’s extraordinary life was in keeping with his own role as the embodiment of Lord Ganesh, the remover of obstacles.

Alchemical Medicine for the 21st Century Spagyrics for Detox, Healing, and Longevity Clare Goodrick-Clarke Using the ancient art of spagyrics for treatment of today’s health problems • Contains detailed indications for using alchemical preparations therapeutically • Shows how the essences work holistically to heal the mind, body, and spirit with the energetic qualities of the plant • Provides effective therapy for a wide range of physical and mental disorders

Spagyrics is a branch of medicinal alchemy that enhances the healing properties already existing in plants. Developed by Paracelsus, the magus and alchemist of the early 16th century, spagyrics is a holistic therapy that promotes healing at all levels of the human being—body, soul, and spirit. Spagyric essences harness the dynamic life force in plants that triggers recovery from the energetic imbalance of illness. The harmonizing and balancing qualities of spagyric essences differ from other plant remedies and aromatherapy oils because they not only include the plant’s energetic information but also incorporate the salt of the plant, from which all toxic matter has been purged. The preparation of this alchemical medicine makes it possible to capture the full therapeutic spectrum of plants, including the cosmic energies they have absorbed. Alchemical Medicine for the 21st Century contains detailed indications for using these alchemical preparations to treat both physical and mental disorders. The author shows, for example, that the tincture made from dandelion is especially potent on liver-related ailments and also raises the spirit and frees the patient from anger and bitterness. The immune system is also boosted by this essence, providing tonic effects for allergy sufferers. The author, a homeopath since 2000, also shows how these spagyric essences can be potentized homeopathically. Clare Goodrick-Clarke is a homeopath and honorary fellow of the University of Exeter, where she lectures on the esoteric body and the history of alchemy. She studied with Manfred M. Junius, author of Spagyrics, and she is the author of The Hermetic Art of Alchemy and coauthor (with Nicholas Goodrick-Clarke) of G.R.S. Mead and the Gnostic Quest. She lives in Devon, England.

Healing the Mind through the Power of Story The Promise of Narrative Psychiatry Lewis Mehl-Madrona, M.D., Ph.D. Psychiatry that recognizes the essential role of community in creating a new story of mental health • Provides a critique of conventional psychiatry and a look at what mental health care could be • Includes stories used in the author’s healing practice that draw from traditional cultures around the world
Conventional psychiatry is not working. The pharmaceutical industry promises it has cures for everything that ails us, yet a recent study on antidepressants showed there is no difference of success in prescribed pharmaceuticals from placebos when all FDAreported trials are considered instead of just the trials published in journals. Up to 80 percent of patients with bipolar depression remain symptomatic despite conventional treatment, and 10 to 20 percent of these patients commit suicide. In Healing the Mind through the Power of Story, Dr. Mehl-Madrona shows what mental health care could be. He explains that within a narrative psychiatry model of mental illness, people are not defective, requiring drugs to “fix” them. What needs “fixing” is the ineffective stories they have internalized and succumbed to about how they should live in the world. Drawing on traditional stories from cultures around the world, Dr. Mehl-Madrona helps his patients re-story their lives. He shows how this innovative approach is actually more compatible with what we are learning about the biology of the brain and genetics than the conventional model of psychiatry. Drawing on wisdom both ancient and new, he demonstrates the power and success of narrative psychiatry to bring forth change and lasting transformation.

Taught to Chinese emperors, their wives, and their concubines for thousands of years, Taoist sexual techniques help lovers harmonize their cycles of pleasure and utilize the abundance of reproductive power that is otherwise wasted in non-procreative sex. Combining the study of sex with traditional Chinese medicine, these practices stimulate and sustain sexual desire through the meridians and pressure points and enhance relationships by harmonizing male (yang) and female (yin) energies. Using easy-to-follow illustrations, Taoist Foreplay guides lovers through simple acupressure massage routines connecting all the points and channels that increase pleasure and spark arousal. It shows how to prolong peak moments, maintain sexual health through prostate massage and jade egg exercises, and sustain the intensity of first love through all the seasons of a maturing relationship. It also explains how to reveal and overcome incompatibility with the Taoist Zodiac. From foreplay to climax, these practices offer a way to keep the flame of sexual energy alive. Tantric Sex for Men Making Love a Meditation Diana Richardson and Michael Richardson A revolutionary approach to male sexuality offers the keys to achieving sexual fulfillment • Teaches how to retain semen for increased vitality and longer lovemaking • Explains the relationship-strengthening benefits of deep, sustained penetration • Includes foreplay approaches and position sequences

Fulfilling sex nourishes love, increases vitality, and boosts mental health. Unfortunately, prevailing attitudes about male sexuality and what is good sex work against these innate features by focusing on the excitement of ejaculation as the one and only goal. Using the tantric guidelines they have practiced for more than 25 years, Diana and Michael Richardson show men how to move beyond their preconceptions of sex as a goal-oriented—and often unintentionally stressful—event so they can relax into sex as a meditative union of complementary energies. They explain how retaining semen allows for increased vitality and extended lovemaking sessions and show the relationship-strengthening benefits of deep, sustained penetration. They also explain how to perform soft penetration and how to avoid premature ejaculation. Tantric Sex for Men includes tried-and-true foreplay approaches, diagrams of sexual position sequences, ways to increase sexual sensitivity through awareness, and how to have ecstatic experiences through reaching a woman’s body on a sexually deeper level. The authors also demonstrate how the sexual organs can be used to heal both men and women physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Diana Richardson is the author of Tantric Orgasm for Women and The Heart of Tantric Sex and is a teacher and practitioner of holistic body therapies. Michael Richardson is a teacher of t’ai chi, practitioner of shiatsu, and teacher of the Gurdjieff Sacred Dances. Both disciples of tantric master Osho, they have been teaching the art of Tantra in their weeklong “Making Love Retreats for Couples” since 1993. They live in Switzerland.

John DeSalvo, Ph.D. Foreword by Lon Milo DuQuette, author of Enochian Vision Magick A practical guide to Dr. John Dee’s angelic magic • Contains instructions for performing Enochian magic meditations • Examines John Dee’s original diaries from the British Library • Includes a CD of Enochian calls taught to Dee by the angels
Enochian magic is a powerful, ancient system for opening portals to heavenly realms and enabling the ascent to God. The basis for many of the modern systems of magic, including the Golden Dawn, Enochian magic is named after the biblical prophet Enoch, who received the same knowledge and wisdom that was later conveyed to the astrologer to the court of Queen Elizabeth I, Dr. John Dee, by angels in the 16th century. In The Lost Art of Enochian Magic John DeSalvo traces the history of magic—from the earliest civilizations of the Akadians and Egyptians through the Greco-Roman period and up to the present time—to reveal how magic has penetrated and influenced our religious beliefs and practices today. Through his unprecedented investigation into the angelic magic of Dr. John Dee, during which time he deciphered Dee’s original phonetic notations in the margins of Dee’s 16th-century diaries, DeSalvo learned to properly reproduce the “Enochian calls,” which act like mantras in opening higher realms and invoking angels, key to this type of magical practice. DeSalvo shows how to use Enochian magic for personal spiritual development and also as protection from negative energies. In addition to providing detailed instructions for performing the magical meditations, this book includes a CD of Enochian calls to demonstrate and guide the correct pronunciation needed to practice Enochian magic.

What we hear, and how we process it, has a far greater impact on our daily living than we realize. From the womb to the moment we die we are surrounded by sound, and what we hear can either energize or deplete our nervous systems. It is no exaggeration to say that what goes into our ears can harm us or heal us. Joshua Leeds—a pioneer in the application of music for health, learning, and productivity—explains how sound can be a powerful ally. He explores chronic sensory overload and how auditory dysfunction often results in difficulties with learning and social interactions. He offers innovative techniques designed to invigorate auditory skills and provide balanced sonic environments. In this revised and updated edition of The Power of Sound, Leeds includes current research, extensive resources, analysis of the maturing field of soundwork and a look at the effect of sound on animals. He also provides a new 60-minute CD of psycho acoustically designed classical music for a direct experience of the effect of simplified sound on the nervous system. With new information on how to use music and sound for enhanced health and productivity, The Power of Sound provides readers with practical solutions for vital and sustained well-being. Joshua Leeds is a sound researcher, educator, and music producer with 40 hours of specialized soundtracks used in clinics, classrooms, and animal care facilities worldwide. Lost Technologies of Ancient Egypt Advanced Engineering in the Temples of the Pharaohs Christopher Dunn A unique study of the engineering and tools used to create Egyptian monuments • Presents a stone-by-stone analysis of key Egyptian monuments, including the statues of Ramses II and the tunnels of the Serapeum • Reveals that highly refined tools and mega-machines were used in ancient Egypt
From the pyramids in the north to the temples in the south, ancient artisans left their marks all over Egypt, unique marks that reveal craftsmanship we would be hard pressed to duplicate today. Drawing together the results of more than 30 years of research and nine field study journeys to Egypt, Christopher Dunn presents a stunning stone-by-stone analysis of key Egyptian monuments, including the statue of Ramses II at Luxor and the fallen crowns that lay at its feet. His modern-day engineering expertise provides a unique view into the sophisticated technology used to create these famous monuments in prehistoric times. Using modern digital photography, computer-aided design software, and metrology instruments, Dunn exposes the extreme precision of these monuments and the type of advanced manufacturing expertise necessary to produce them. His computer analysis of the statues of Ramses II reveals that the left and right sides of the faces are precise mirror images of each other, and his examination of the mysterious underground tunnels of the Serapeum illuminates the finest examples of precision engineering on the planet. Providing never-before-seen evidence in the form of more than 280 photographs, Dunn’s research shows that while absent from the archaeological record, highly refined tools, techniques, and even mega-machines must have been used in ancient Egypt.

Reiki practitioners direct universal energy into the physical body through hands-on and energy-field healing to support the client in recovering health and reclaiming well-being. An easy-to-learn form of energy medicine, Reiki is becoming commonplace in such conventional settings as hospitals, hospices, and psychotherapy practices because it relaxes, relieves stress, reduces and eliminates pain, accelerates healing, and helps support the gentle restoration of the body’s natural balance. Psychomagic The Transformative Power of Shamanic Psychotherapy Alejandro Jodorowsky A healing path using the power of dreams, theater, poetry, and shamanism • Shows how psychological realizations can cause true transformation when manifested by concrete poetic acts • Includes many examples of the surreal but successful actions Jodorowsky has prescribed to those seeking his help
While living in Mexico, Alejandro Jodorowsky became familiar with the colorful and effective cures provided by folk healers. He realized that it is easier for the unconscious to understand the language of dreams than that of rationality. Illness can even be seen as a physical dream that reveals unresolved emotional and psychological problems. Psychomagic presents the shamanic and genealogical principles Jodorowsky discovered to create a healing therapy that could use the powers of dreams, art, and theater to empower individuals to heal wounds that in some cases had traveled through generations. The concrete and often surreal poetic actions Jodorowsky employs are part of an elaborate strategy intended to break apart the dysfunctional persona with whom the patient identifies in order to connect with a deeper self. That is when true transformation can manifest. For a young man who complained that he lived only in his head and was unable to grab hold of reality and advance toward the financial autonomy he desired, Jodorowsky gave the prescription to paste two gold coins to the soles of his shoes so that all day he would be walking on gold. A judge whose vanity was ruling his every move was given the task of dressing like a tramp and begging outside one of the fashionable restaurants he loved to frequent while pulling glass doll eyes out of his pockets. The lesson for him was that if a tramp can fill his pockets with eyeballs, then they must be of no value, and thus the eyes of others should have no bearing on who you are and what you do. Taking his patients directly at their words, Jodorowsky takes the same elements associated with a negative emotional charge and recasts them in an action that will make them positive and enable them to pay the psychological debts hindering their lives.

The Subtle Energy Body The Complete Guide Maureen Lockhart, Ph.D. A global study of the psychospiritual body and its central role in the esoteric and spiritual traditions of the world • Explains the nature, purpose, and functions of the subtle body • Explores the role of the subtle body in such traditions as Alchemy, Ayurveda, Tantra, Qi Gong, and Yoga • Shows how the various layers of the subtle body provide a map for various levels of consciousness

Ancient traditions of both the East and West have long maintained that the human being is a complex of material and nonmaterial systems, or energy bodies. The “subtle body” is an energetic, psychospiritual entity of several layers of increasing subtlety and metaphysical significance through which the aspirant seeks knowledge of the self and the nature of God. In many traditions, the component parts of the subtle body serve as a map of the different levels of consciousness. The practices and disciplines that evolved from an awareness and understanding of the subtle body, and how the material and nonmaterial work together, form a coherent system of psychospiritual transformation that is central to numerous and extremely diverse spiritual practices—including those of the Gnostics, Sufis, Native Americans, Vedic seers, Chinese, and Greeks. The subtle body plays an essential part in more recent traditions such as Anthroposophy and Gurdjieff’s Fourth Way and the cutting-edge science of Ervin Laszlo’s research into the Akashic field. But the benefits of understanding the role of the subtle energy body are not confined solely to the spiritual plane. The energetic bodies provide a coherent system of life-affirming principles and practices for the diagnosis and treatment of the whole person that is not only part of many traditional healing systems, such as Acupuncture and Ayurveda, but also is forming the basis for a synthesis of traditional and contemporary healing practices that could lay the foundation for the medicine of the future. Maureen Lockhart, Ph.D., is a lecturer and tutor at the University of Wales, Lampeter. She was a homeopath, naturopath, and yoga teacher in India and the Far East for two decades and coauthored, with M. Gharote, The Art of Survival: A Guide to Yoga Therapy.

Invasive Plant Medicine The Ecological Benefits and Healing Abilities of Invasives Timothy Lee Scott Foreword by Stephen Harrod Buhner The first book to demonstrate how plants originally considered harmful to the environment actually restore Earth’s ecosystems and possess powerful healing properties • Explains how invasive plants enhance biodiversity, purify ecosystems, and revitalize the land • Provides a detailed look at the healing properties of 25 of the most common invasive plants
Most of the invasive plant species under attack for disruption of local ecosystems in the United States are from Asia, where they play an important role in traditional healing. In opposition to the loud chorus of those clamoring for the eradication of all these plants that, to the casual observer, appear to be a threat to native flora, Timothy Scott shows how these opportunistic plants are restoring health to Earth’s ecosystems. Far less a threat to the environment than the cocktails of toxic pesticides used to control them, these invasive plants perform an essential ecological function that serves to heal both the land on which they grow and the human beings who live upon it. These plants remove toxic residues in the soil, providing detoxification properties that can help heal individuals. Invasive Plant Medicine demonstrates how these “invasives” restore natural balance and biodiversity to the environment and examines the powerful healing properties offered by 25 of the most common invasive plants growing in North America and Europe. Each plant examined includes a detailed description of its physiological actions and uses in traditional healing practices; tips on harvesting, preparation, and dosage; contraindications; and any possible side effects. This is the first book to explore invasive plants not only for their profound medical benefits but also with a deep ecological perspective that reveals how plant intelligence allows them to flourish wherever they grow.

Wheel of Initiation Practices for Releasing Your Inner Light Julie Tallard Johnson A guide to personal spiritual initiation through the transformation of habitual patterns, apathy, and resistance • Based on the Native American medicine wheel, the Vedic wheel, and the universal initiatory mandala • Enables readers from any tradition to initiate themselves through practices of thought transformation, narrative medicine, meditation exercises, rituals, and journaling • Facilitates breaking through personal and societal illusions that perpetuate resistance and apathy

Intentions and spiritual principles, meditation and contemplation, ritual, and risktaking are the conditions that comprise an initiated life. Regrettably, in modern society we do not have rites of initiation that break through the personal and societal illusions that instill and perpetuate negative habits that keep us in states of resistance. Lacking initiation practices, we often remain trapped in ways of being in the world that were formed by our past conditions and attachments. We tend to identify too strongly with the status quo, which must be challenged to prevent stagnation and to encourage happiness and authenticity. Julie Tallard Johnson shows how to become initiated into an authentic life through practices of thought transformation, cultivating attention, journaling, storytelling, and rituals found in the four directions of the universal mandala. She begins the Wheel of Initiation in the South, where initiates set their intentions; then moves into the West, where they free themselves from habitual patterns and core beliefs; then into the North, the direction of cultivating attention and unity; and finishes in the East, the direction of regeneration and initiation. Drawing upon the life experiences of those who have successfully navigated the wheel, Johnson demonstrates that once fears, assumptions, and ingrained beliefs are confronted and transformed, initiates emerge ready to reenter society with renewed energy and vision that will enrich their own lives and their communities. Julie Tallard Johnson, MSW, LCSW, is a meditation teacher and transpersonal counselor who has led many individuals and groups through the Wheel of Initiation. She is the author of several books, including Teen Psychic and The Thundering Years, recipient of the Independent Publisher “IPPY” multicultural award in 2002. She lives in Wisconsin.

Teachings of the Santería Gods The Spirit of the Odu Ócha’ni Lele The first book to explore the sacred myths of Santería • Includes more than 100 myths, stories, and histories about the odu and the orishas • Reassembles the oral fragments from the African diaspora into coherent stories • Demonstrates that the African peoples, specifically the Yoruba, were deeply spiritual
At the core of the diloggún—the sacred divination system of Santería—are the sacred stories known as the patakís, narratives whose themes are as powerful and relevant today as they were in the minds of the ancient Yoruba who safeguarded them. Each patakí is connected to one or more of the 16 odu, the principal creative forces of Santería. Some recount the lives of orishas on earth, others the lives of individuals in heaven, and some tell of the odu themselves, for even they once walked the earth as mortals. The first book to explore these ancient African stories in English, Teachings of the Santería Gods recounts more than 100 of these sacred parables, including many stories reassembled from the oral tradition of the African diaspora. Ranging from creation myths to what happens when a love potion works far too well, these stories share the wisdom and spirituality of the Yoruba people of ancient Africa and form the living, oral bible of one of the world’s fastest-growing faiths.
