Day 28 (Mon 22 May) With only a few days to go now, we leave Belley and head back to Lyon. We are back once again at l’Hôtel du Simplon, hosted by our Rotarian friend, Alix. After a visit to Centre International de Séjour to see some creative approaches to hospitality and marketing the city, we are off to a Rotary Club meeting, Cercle de l’Union, where we do our presentation and have an informal question and answer session.
I then have the pleasure of spending the afternoon with Fabien and Fannie. The view from their flat includes many familiar landmarks. They are my guide to a nearby FNAC in my search for some authentic French music to bring back to NM. I find an eclectic range from vocals (Barbara, Georges Brassens, Claude Nougaro, Maurane, etc.) to guitar (Francis Cabrel) to accordion. They join us for dinner as we are on our own. Being good New Mexicans, as we walk in search of a Japanese restaurant, we are unprepared for the rain that comes, so end up ducking into the tube to metro closer to the place
Dinner is also a show. We have documentation of Junior eating with chopsticks (a short lived experiment). They had a unique lighter for the flaming portions. While the next 2 years include, for Fabien moving to Paris for a short time then on to Mexico City (in search of fame/fortune on stage), and for Fannie a move to Ghana to do research, they announce that a wedding is likely next summer. I may be back to do some music
