CAREER PROFILE Innovative Professor of Political Science and History with the experience and the ability to develop, organize and implement educational programs, administrative programs, and instructional materials within a college environment. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE University of New Haven, West Haven, Connecticut, Fall 2008 History-Political Science Instructor, Adjunct Faculty, Practitioner In Residence Taught Modern Western Civilization (1789 to the present) to 85 undergraduates in 3 classes using lectures based on the text and creating supplemental teaching materials to create a comprehensive overview. Worked to launch the Learning Community that linked History class assignments and English class assignments requiring the coordination of both professors. Used a writing across the curriculum strategy to implement writing assignments resulting in a term paper and essay exams. Students were required to confer with the professor on topics chosen for writing the course paper. Developed rapport with students identifying good points of assignment and projects and then explaining areas for improvement. Used a standard outline for each lecture for students to use in their note taking and for composing questions. Provided a copy of PowerPoint lectures online for students to review before exams. Used Blackboard to provide a web page for student communication, assignments, and course documents. Taught one section of Political Science 310, The American Congress, with a class size of 15-17 in the fall of 2006. Integrated a Follow the Bill Program in the spring semester as a tool for students to understand the complexity of the Congressional process. Integrated the Congressional Elections of 2006 into the class using The Independent Political Think Tank as a tool for students to track assigned Congressional districts to predict an election outcome. Integrated and coordinated with the Salem State College Library a designed class session dedicated to enable students to find assigned information for The Independent Political Think Tank. Used discussion sessions for students to exchange information helpful to their assigned research and to illustrate the correct format for the final assignment. Used the standard lecture format, integrating PowerPoint presentations in the

Gibbs College, Farmington, Connecticut, May 2006-September 2006 Instructor, Adjunct Faculty Taught two classes in Contemporary Issues to classes of 10-12 using internet integration. Used the class as a tool to teach research methods and credible scrutiny of resources. Enhanced the importance of writing and using proper grammatical methods in writing critiques and larger papers. Built strong communication skills with students using email and one on one methods. Course included the incorporation of the rules of Impromptu Debate on controversial issues outlined in the text to illustrate a logical argument. Encouraged students to speak out without being chastised and to stringently follow rules of civility in class regardless of the point of view of the instructor or the students.
