Graceworks’ communitybased services provided $571,449 in charity care, improving stability in the lives of more than 15,000 individuals facing challenges and uncertainties.
Benevolent Care Benefits
Consumer Credit Counseling Service: Through one-on-one financial counseling, housing counseling, bankruptcy pre-filing counseling and financial literacy classes, we helped more than 8,000 families manage their debts, create budgets, become homeowners or avoid foreclosure. Interfaith Care Team Ministry: A total of 110 families received home-based lifeskills education, family mentorship, advocacy and support through case management services. Another 1,312 individuals received emergency assistance.

Once Around Shop and Emergency Assistance Program: A total of 5,005 individuals received emergency food, clothing or financial assistance. Thousands more bought affordable clothing and household items at our Eaton Once Around Shop. Senior Companion Program: Trained volunteers helped 250 older persons maintain independence in their own homes through friendly visits and respite care. Graceworks’ 840 volunteers contributed 97,391 hours, an estimated value of $1.3 million. Graceworks encouraged its employees to participate in 74 other nonprofit community organizations.

With headquarters located on the 100-acre Bethany Village campus in Centerville, Graceworks, a nonprofit, faith-based organization, is one of the 50 largest employers in the Miami Valley. Having a place to call “home” is even more heart-warming in a welcoming, respectful community of good neighbors. Designed for comfort, safety, self-sufficiency and consideration for the physical and emotional needs of the residents, Graceworks residential communities add value to neighborhoods in 20 counties in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky. Graceworks emerged as a leader and trusted provider of group homes in the early 1980s when the State of Ohio began deinstitutionalizing persons with mental retardation and developmental disabilities. First opening two homes in Cincinnati in 1983, Graceworks Enhanced Living provided 25 nationally accredited group residences and a day program in Butler, Greene, Hamilton and Montgomery counties in 2007 for more than 160 individuals with developmental disabilities. The typical apartment building has 40 clean and secure apartments that are accessible for people with mobility impairments. For nearly two decades, Graceworks Housing Services, through a partnership with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), has provided comfortable, safe places to live for individuals who are age 62 or older or disabled. Graceworks provided more than $730,000 in charity care in 2007 through Housing Services.
Bethany Village is expanding to serve the growing population of seniors Graceworks Lutheran Services is demonstrating its commitment to the Dayton region with a $47 million construction project at Bethany Village, its senior living community in Centerville. A nationally accredited Continuing Care Retirement Community, Bethany Village provides residences for active seniors, assisted living and a range of healthcare services to meet changing needs, including short-term rehabilitation, memory supportive care and skilled nursing care. The expansion is one of the largest building projects underway in the south Dayton metropolitan area and includes 60 new residences, a Village Center and a Memory Support Center. The first step was a massive exterior renovation of the 11-story Vista Place apartment residence, the tallest building in the community. But the project is about more than new buildings. It is about enriching the lives of the community’s growing population of seniors. The Village Center will open in December 2008 and create a new “front door” to the community. The new central gathering place illustrates Bethany’s focus on wholeness of life and includes a Fitness Center, a relaxing Bistro, a Grand Room for large gatherings, a classroom for educational programs and an Art Center for creating and exhibiting art. The new Memory Support Center will provide a home-like environment for people experiencing dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. To be completed in spring 2009, the Center will be divided into four households. Each household will feature 14 private resident rooms, a dining area, kitchen and living room overlooking a central courtyard where residents can experience the outdoors. When the expansion is completed, Bethany will be home to approximately 800 older adults. More than 575 elderly people experience skilled nursing care and customized rehabilitation programs each year in the Bethany Rehabilitation Center as they recover from surgery or hospitalization.

Once Around Shop and Emergency Assistance Program: A total of 5,005 individuals received emergency food, clothing or financial assistance. Thousands more bought affordable clothing and household items at our Eaton Once Around Shop. Senior Companion Program: Trained volunteers helped 250 older persons maintain independence in their own homes through friendly visits and respite care. Graceworks’ 840 volunteers contributed 97,391 hours, an estimated value of $1.3 million. Graceworks encouraged its employees to participate in 74 other nonprofit community organizations.

With headquarters located on the 100-acre Bethany Village campus in Centerville, Graceworks, a nonprofit, faith-based organization, is one of the 50 largest employers in the Miami Valley.
