Name: Kevin Daza Botina Article: Midgut bacteria required for Bacillus thuringiensis insecticidal activity

Glossary Bacillus Thurigiensis: Gram-positive bacteria used for the biological control of lepidoptera E.coli: Gram-negative bacteria found in the digestive tract of animals and humans Septicemia: is the presence of bacteria in the blood Hemolymph: circulatory fluid of some invertebrates Strain: cell population of a single species Spore: it is a microscope body formed by protein and genetic material whose purpose is the dispersion and survival Lysis: rupture of the cell membrane or of a bacterium Lepidoptera: is an order of flying insects known as butterflies Hemocoel: he primary body cavity of most invertebrates, containing circulatory fluid. Crystalline protein: is a toxin released by Bacillus Thuringiensis

Idea principal The main idea of the article is that bacillus thrigiensis depends on an interaction with the intestinal bacteria of the lepidopteran to cause cell lysis that would lead to the death of the larvae that attack the crops.

When applying concentrations of antibiotics to the larvae it reduces the mortality of the same ones by action of the crystalline protin produced by B.Thrugiensis

3) B. thuringiensis the toxin-induced mortality typically takes 2-5 days, while the Mortality induced by starvation often takes 7-10 days 4)

I chose this article because I think it is very interesting the potential that we have these microorganisms thanks to the production of their primary, secondary metabolites and their wide use in different industries which helps to replace the use of chemicals and contribute to the environment
