In the Introductory Presentation (01 in this series) the stated objective of these presentations was to discredit the claims of Scientific Miracles in the Koran and by doing so attempt to prove that Islam was as false as other religions. Presentations 02 to 09 examined the structure of the Universe and Earth according to the Koran. What was found was a Cosmology based on Ancient Mythology ultimately derived from Ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt thousands of years before. Presentations 10 to 12 examined the various arguments put forward by Islamic Fundamentalists in order to try and prove that modern Science can be found in the Koran and these were shown to be nonsense. The following Slides elaborate on this.

Where the Cosmology of the Koran originates
The Universe described in the Koran (and the Bible) has its origins at least 5000 years ago, and possibly earlier in the Ancient Civilisations of Mesopotamia and Egypt. 5th September 2009
13 - Conclusion
11
Ancient Mesopotamian Cosmology in the Koran Much of what the Koran says about Cosmology originated in the Ancient Middle East thousands of years earlier in Mesopotamia & Egypt. The Koran is not only out of step with modern science, but it is also out of step with the science of the C7th AD.

12
Mesopotamian Cosmos Thousands of years before the Koran or the Bible were written, the ancient Mesopotamians and many other ancient peoples believed in a Universe like this. This view of the Universe gradually declined in popularity after 500BC but it is is accepted in both the Bible & Koran. 5th September 2009

The Biblical Cosmos
The Cosmology of the Ancient Mesopotamians also found its way into the Bible, despite claims By Christian Fundamentalists to the contrary.

Ptolemy and the Spherical Earth
Around AD150, the Greek Philosopher Ptolemy summarised the work of many earlier Greek Scientists.Ptolemy imagined a spherical Earth fixed in the centre of the Universe with the Sun and Planets moving around it. This was how educated people envisaged the Universe, but the Koran still thinks that the Earth is flat. 5th September 2009

Explanation of “Modern Science” in the Koran. 1.

Most verses used are very vague and open to a wide variety interpretations. The most likely interpretation usually turns out to be quite mundane. Many Muslims read things into these vague verses that are not really in them.Christian & Hindu Fundamentalists often do the same with their Scriptures as well. Verses of the Koran are frequently taken out of context, both textually and historically. Sometimes dubious translations are used either due to carelessness or outright dishonesty. Some examples of the alleged Scientific Miracles in the Koran are referring to were already known in the time of Mohammed. If there really were Scientific Miracles in the Koran, then Muslims would have discovered them hundreds of years ago, unless all the Muslims that ever lived have been misinterpreting the Koran for 1400 years. 5th September 2009
13 - Conclusion
20
Circular reasoning Islamic Fundamentalists often use faulty logic and circular reasoning to “prove” a point. • They assume that the Koran is of Divine origin because it says so and they accept this on faith. • Based on this assumption, they further assume that there cannot possibly be errors in the Koran under any circumstances. • When they find an apparent error, they try to think up some interpretation that still allows them to accept the Koran as infallible. • Often, their interpretation stretches and distorts the text to vaguely allude to some modern Scientific phenomena. • This “discovery” of modern Science in the Koran is then taken as “proof” of its divine origin.

The Nostradamus Technique. The claims of Scientific Miracles in The Koran are like the claims that Nostradamus prophesied modern events. Supporters of Nostradamus are never able to identify an alleged Prophecy before an event. Likewise, Muslims cannot identify any future Scientific discoveries. They wait until after a discovery is made before “finding” it in the Koran.
