Mark Salvatus

 Born on 1980 in Manila  is an intermedia artist at the forefront of critical discourse on the subject of urbanization and the socio-economic underpinnings that are made manifest in densely-populated areas.  Known for his site-specific interventions and ingenious use of materials  The urban landscape serves as both repository and stage for Salvatus’ works that deal with familiar objects, chance encounters, and everyday politics.  He graduated cum laude at the University of Santo Tomas College of Fine Arts and Design Manila with a degree in Advertising Arts.  Mark Salvatus is a recipient of the 13 Artists Award from the Cultural Center of the Philippines (2012); Sovereign-Schoeni Art Prize, Hong Kong (2012) and Ateneo Art Awards (2010)

Hanna Pettyjohn

 Born on 1983 in Manila; lives and works in Dallas

 The daughter of pioneering contemporary Filipino ceramicists Jon and Tessy Pettyjohn.  Graduated from the University of the Philippines Diliman, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting.  A Filipino-American with a transnational narrative, Pettyjohn possesses firsthand knowledge of the global diaspora. Autobiographical details and “fragments of memory” inform her work, which is tinged with both nostalgia and an acute awareness of life’s transience.  Through her large-scale portraits and personal photographs-turned-tactile landscapes, she conveys the vague anxiety, loneliness, and alienation that afflict the uprooted.  She combines sculptural installations with paintings in her explorations of identity.  In 2004, Pettyjohn won first prize at the 37th Shell National Students Art Competition. She also received the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ 13 Artists Award in 2015.

ALFREDO & ISABEL AQUILIZAN  Alfredo Juan (born in Ballesteros, Cagayan Philippines in 1962)  Isabel Aquilizan y Gaudinez (born in Manila, Philippines in 1965)  The husband-and-wife team of Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan creates works that use the processes of collecting and collaborating to express ideas of migration, family and memory. They bring together personal items to compose elaborate, formal installations reflecting individual experiences of dislocation and change.  Having migrated from the Philippines to Australia, the Aquilizans' work reflects personal experience, while conveying points of exchange and communication that extend beyond borders.  Both live and work in Brisbane, Australia.
