AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: PROFESSIONAL •Practise and review history taking and clinical examination skills. • Maintain and improve my communication skills. • Solidify my knowledge base of common medical and oncological conditions. • Build confidence by becoming an active and valued member of the medical team. • Take on a greater level of responsibility for patients. • Respect the limitations of my knowledge and skills and be at ease in asking for assistance from other members of staff. • Return with a greater appreciation of disease, morbidity and mortality in the context of developing countries. • Return with a greater appreciation of Oncology as a potential career.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: PERSONAL •Be able to take a full medical history and perform a clinical examination in Spanish. • Subsequently present these findings and discuss patient management with a senior member of staff in Spanish. • Only speak Spanish during my time abroad to fully immerse self in the language and gain a greater appreciation of the local cultures. • Return to the UK with a greater understanding and fluent command of the Spanish language. • To be able to conduct clinical duties in both English and Spanish. • Reflect upon the differences between the NHS and health systems in Central America.
