WHAT IS ECLASS? ABOUT EClass offers online writing & reading classes for Vietnamese students. A couple of skills I recognized that tend to be areas of improvement for Vietnamese students in college and work place are critical thinking and communication. While these classes are focused around a specific goal (standardized tests prep, college essay personal statement prep), I want to use this as an opportunity to get to guide some students in thinking through a few specific topics more deeply and hope to empower students with a toolkit of skills to help them be a more critical thinker, keen observer, and thought-provoking writer.

methodology teaching methodology & goals Traditional test prep classes in Vietnam tend to teach writing based on templates for students to fill out, sometimes without a clear explanation of why such templates exist and a thorough explanation of why we write in the first place. I believe that writing is just an expression of how one thinks. Hence, teaching students how to think deeply and critically about an issue will empower students to naturally improve in writing, while also become a stronger thinker and informed participant in a discussion in classroom in college or professional working context later in their careers. I hope that through these writing classes, students will achieve a more thorough understanding of what a good piece of writing would entail. More importantly, metric of success for these classes would be for students to walk away knowing exactly where they are good at and what gaps they can continue working on and have a clear path toward understanding how they can continue driving forward progress. Typically past EClass students see immediate improvement in writing score after 1 month of learning.

about me I grew up in Hue, Vietnam, and had an opportunity to migrate to the US at age of 12, following my mom's family. I started seeking out for jobs to support my brother and myself in 10th grade. My high school friend hired me to become a math tutor to help her with a class, and since then I found a pretty lasting interest in mentorship and tutoring.

I'm most excited by math + writing. I've done some competitive math in high school and won multiple awards in various national/state-wide essay writing contests. I also blog sometimes, recording random wandering thoughts and building an outlet for all the emotions I have being a twentysomething.

I have been tutoring hundreds of students on the side for the past 8 years, covering a wide range of subjects, usually math and writing. My passion in working with young people also motivated me to launch some projects in Vietnam to empower young students with opportunities to explore and stretch their potential, including Students to Service online network connecting students to service opportunities and IM Venture, an educational travel program connecting Vietnamese students all over the world.

Teaching writing has been one of the most rewarding experiences for me as it has enabled me to have very interesting, quality conversations with young Vietnamese students, to better understand how next generation of Vietnamese students think, and to feel incredibly lucky to have an opportunity to create some impact in shaping the next generation of Vietnamese students.
