Names: DSLR SHOOTING ASSINGMENT 1: Using one of the DSLR cameras available, get a partner and shoot the following: 1. Freeze the Movement in a Shot: a) Set your camera to AUTO mode. Put your camera on a tripod. b) Have your partner run through the frame and capture their image. c) Notice that the runner is blurry, but the background is sharp. d) Now set your camera to manual mode. Set the shutter speed to 1/1000. This will snap your picture very quickly. Have your partner run through the frame again, and try and capture the image with precise clarity. Now do the opposite. Set your shutter speed to very slow, say 1/30 of a second. Have your partner run through the frame now. What do you notice? You must capture at least 5 different shots of your partner running or moving through the frame.
2. Panning: a) Set your camera up on a tripod. Put your settings to Auto. b) You are going to track your subject by following them with your camera as you snap the picture. The intended result is for you to have a blurred background, but an in focus subject, showing movement. c) Now create a panning shot but hold the camera by hand. Collect at least 5 tracking or panning shots of your partner running or moving through the frame. Other considerations: ISO: What kind of light is outside? If it is quite bright, you can lower your ISO. If it is quite dark, you will want your ISO to be higher and more sensitive. Aperture: The opening in the lens of your camera can be adjusted as well. Play with the aperture setting at different diameters to achieve different depth of field effects.
