The Central Facilities of Integrated Waste Managemt include: (1) The Landfill’s 2 cells (2) The leachate monitoring system (3) The biogas monitoring system (4) Other facilities (administration building, maintenance building etc)
In the near future… (1) Mechanical Treatment Plant (MTP) (2) Landfill (3) Targeted Waste Streams (4) Sludge Treatment Facility
The Regional Landfill (€ 5 m)
Area: 8 hectares (total area 327 hectares) Upon the completion of the second cell the facilities’ capacity will be doubled
Local Transfer Stations (€ 2,5 m)
Nine transfer stations have been completed and one more in Grevena is currently under construction.
Each month the Local Waste Management Facility (LWMF) network of W. Macedonia…
receives 2,500 truckloads… more than 10,000 tonnes of urban waste are being transferred… receives 300 tonnes of paper and 100 tonnes of used mineral oils
Dump restoration works were completed in mid 2007. Environmental inspections and risk assessment studies for more than 200 sites were conducted and also technical studies for all high risk dumps. Funding was provided by the EU for restoration works in 40 sites,
Restoration works for all high-risk dumps have been completed in mid2007. Total cost have reached € 9m.
40 high risk dumpsites (cost: € 9 m) 91 restored low risk dumpsites financed by Local Municipalities (cost: € 1,5 m) 76 low risk dumpsites (cost: € 3,2 m)

DIADYMA SA is moving towards the construction of infrastructures for waste treatment and development. The MTP has a capacity of 150.000 tonnes, and it will maximize the recovery of recyclables, doubling the landfills’ lifecycle. The project is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) scheme and today is at a stage of hiring a Financial Adviser.
Local Waste Management Facilities turn into “Green points”
maximizing recovery rates becomes the main target of the regional IWMS of W. Macedonia
2.500 tonnes of paper are transported annually
