Again, what are the components of a computer and how it differs to each other?

The components of computer are hardware and software. Hardware is the tangible part of computer while software is the intangible part of computer. It is intangible because these are programs consisting of set of detailed instructions that tell the hardware what to operation to perform.

Very good! Now, what are the two types of software and how it differs to each other?

The two types of software are system software and application software. System software is consists of programs that control the actual operations of the computer equipment while Application Software set of instructions that tell the hardware to perform a specific task and produce information.

That’s correct. Let’s proceed to our topic.

If we have knowledge on computer software installation, we can save money if ever our system crashes because we will be able to fix that problem on our own. We can also earn extra money for repairing other’s computers.

h. Developmental Activities a. Class, what is operating system? - Correct. - It is the one program running at all times on the computer. - The most important program that runs on your computer. It manages all other programs on the machine. b. Operating System performs basic tasks, what are those?

c. Class, is there more than one type of Operating System? 1.Single-user, single task. This type manages the computer so that one user can effectively do one thing at a time. Give example. 2. Multi-user, multi-task. Allows two or more users to run programs at the same time. Some operating systems permit hundreds or even thousands of concurrent users. Give example. 3. Real Time Operating Systems Systems RTOS are used to control machinery, scientific instruments, and industrial systems. Give example.

Operating System is a program that controls the execution of application programs and acts as an interface between the user of a computer and the computer hardware.

There are four types of operating system.

4. Single-user, Multi-tasking. This is the type of operating system most desktops and laptops use today. Microsoft’s Windows and Apple’s MacOS are both examples of operating systems that will let a single user have several programs in operation at the same time. Give example.

Proprietary - is the kind of operating system which is owned by an individual or a company and is protected from unauthorized use by patents, trademarks and/or copyrights. It is privately owned and controlled, usually by a company. The main focus is usually to make money from the product. Give example. b. Non-proprietary - is an operating system that is free and can be downloaded on the internet. Different programmers work on this operating system to give a solution on having an operating system which is free. It is free in the sense that it freely allows anyone to change, enhance, and redistribute the program as they see fit. Give example.
