Classes are scheduled for March 11, 18, 20, 25, and 27th at the West Des Moines Police Public Safety Building. This class will only be offered every other year from this point forward. There are many students that need to finish this series so you’ll want to get on board and get this finished. New students need to remember it may be two years before this course is repeated in Des Moines again so plan for your completion of this course accordingly. The entire CAM series will be $550.00 or $75.00 for each individual class if trying to complete your designation. Registration for this class will begin in January and the forms will be available in the January newsletter.

Letter from the President Hello peers and friends: It is with both sadness and excitement that I write my last President’s Letter for the CIAA. As of January 2008, Rick Koontz, current Vice President and Legislative Chair will become your CIAA President for 2008. My congratulations to him and all of our newly elected 2008 CIAA Executive Board. Having worked with Rick on this year’s board, I know that our Association’s leadership is in good hands and I am confident that our CIAA will continue to grow and flourish in 2008. I will be active as Past-President on the Board, but with Tom and I expecting in late April, this was the perfect time for me to bow out and allow for new people and their ideas to be brought in. This process of electing new leadership annually is one of the most important aspects of our Association and something that will keep the CIAA fresh with new ideas and experiences for years to come. It doesn’t belong to one person and their ideas, but to all of us as members. Thank you all for being a part of our nomination and election process. We accomplished quite a bit since our inception in April and I want to thank Mary Spain and Tom Newton for all of their help, support and hard work during our transition. Other than the actual business of getting an NAA Accredited Association up and running in Iowa, our CIAA has held both CAM and NALP designation courses, brought in two nationally-recognized speakers, held a successful networking golf outing, and put on the largest multi-family trade show - complete with our own Maintenance Olympics. And we still have another function yet this month: the Vendor Council-sponsored Winter Social and Toys for Tots charity drive on the 13th. I hope everyone can make that event as your Vendor Council continues to do so much for our Association and our industry. In closing, I want to wish everyone a Happy Holiday season and a wonderful 2008. Thank you for your support of our CIAA this past year. I truly believe it is our members that make our Association successful and I hope you choose to get involved and active in 2008 if you hadn’t had the opportunity yet. Best wishes and as always, happy leasing. Melissa Johnson The Peterson Companies 2007 CIAA President

A portion of your dues that we pay to NAA is non-deductible for income tax purposes. This is because a percentage of NAA’s income is expended for lobbying purposes. Use the following calculations to determine the amount of your CIAA dues that is not tax deductible. Total # of Units:_______x .47 = $ Multiply that result by .1284. This is the portion of your dues that is not tax-deductible. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Rick Koontz, Vice President CIAA. Rick Koontz, Signature Place Page 3
