S

peakers and a tentative conference schedule have been announced for the 2009 NAA Green Conference & Exposition, April 28-29, at the Phoenix Convention Center, Phoenix. The opening general session, “Does Green Make Sense for You,” will feature industry expert panelists discussing the green revolution as it relates to the multifamily housing industry, current trends in development and asset management and the business decisions that companies must consider to remain viable during the sustainability movement. During the closing general session, a representative from the world-renowned Rocky Mountain Institute will address why multifamily housing properties should go green and why it benefits the bottom line. The conference will feature experts from all areas of the green building and management movement—green development (general green, mixed-use, transit-oriented, etc.), green building criteria, green marketing, green property management, etc.—under one roof so that attendees gain an understanding of how green affects and potentially benefits their properties. Separate education tracks for builder/developers and property managers allow attendees maximum exposure to green issues related to their specific interests and job responsibilities. Exhibit and sponsorship opportunities are available but space is limited, so reserve your booth today. For information, please visit www.naahq.org/events/green or contact John Murray at 703/518-6141 Ext. 131 or [email protected], or Justin Barker at Ext. 129 or [email protected]. Don’t miss being a part of the leading green trade show in the multifamily housing industry.

Register for the 2009 NAA Student Housing Conference The 2009 NAA Student Housing Conference will be held Feb. 2-4 at The Venetian Palazzo Hotel Resort in Las Vegas. In its second year, the conference geared toward individuals working in this lucrative niche market will feature general sessions with industry CEOs, economist Chris Lee, author Neil Howe and Virginia Tech Assistant VP of Student Affairs Dr. Richard Ferraro. Breakout sessions are geared toward those new to the student housing industry and veterans in the field. In between education sessions, attendees will have the opportunity to network on the trade show floor. To register for the conference, please visit www.naahq.org/events/shc.

CAMT, CAM and CAPS Updates Delivered NAAEI’s new Certified Apartment Maintenance Technician (CAMT) program was delivered in September and is being pilot tested in Dallas. The new CAMT utilizes a blended learning approach, delivering two modules and practice scenarios online. The program includes seven hours of online training with 70 hours of classroom instruction. It can be taken as an entire designation course or students may take individual modules to help improve specific skills. Busy apartment industry professionals now may earn their Certified Apartment Manager (CAM) designations online. In September, 19 students enrolled in CAM online. In October, NAAEI delivered the new Certified Apartment Property Supervisor (CAPS) program. This is a 40-hour or five-day program that students can take as a designation course or in individual modules. The Effective Leadership module should be of particular interest to property supervisors or those who are ready to advance to that role. The program covers legal responsibilities and risk management; financial management; property performance management; property evaluation and due diligence; and effective leadership.
