TO OUR COMMUNITY. . .

THE WORSHIP OF GOD June 21, 2009

For the next 8 weeks we will be taking a “good look” at the gospel. The word gospel comes from an Old English word “godspell” which means “good story” and later became “good news”. As Christians we have a good story to tell to others. Many times we call this “sharing” the gospel. In Greek the word is euangelion. This word means “good message”. It comes from the root word that we translate as angel. When we share the gospel message with someone, we are God’s messengers of good news. There is another word we need to know, and that word is apologetics. It comes from the Greek word apologia, and it means to defend. Apologetics is then the defense of the gospel. The first way we can defend the gospel is to make sure we know the gospel. Next we need to make sure we live the gospel. Thirdly we must verbally share the gospel. In the next 8 weeks we will all have the opportunity to know the gospel. We will be looking at key Bible verses. I will be asking you to make sure and familiarize yourself with these verses, and it is my prayer that you will even join me in memorizing these verses. If we will work through these verses together for the next 8 weeks, we will know the gospel and then be able to defend it with our living and sharing of the “good news”.

“Speak, O Lord”

WELCOME AND GREETING “Soon and Very Soon”

GATHERING

CALL TO WORSHIP Psalms 98, 34:1, 3 ONE: Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. ALL: The Lord has made his salvation known and revealed his righteousness to the nations. He has remembered his love and his faithfulness to the house of Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music; Make music to the Lord with the harp and with the sound of singing, with trumpets and the blast of the horn. Shout for joy before the Lord, the King.

Praying for you, John

Let the sea resound, and everything in it; the world, and all who live in it. PRAYER TIME

Let the rivers clap their hands, let the mountains sing together for joy; let them sing before the Lord, for he comes to judge the earth.

Feel free to pray at the altar or your seat.

SERMON

He will judge the world win righteousness and the people with equity. I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips. Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together.

John Wheatley
